harry potter and the miraculous hinkypunk vanishing

Harry’s on his fourth lunchbreak and bored out of his mind. Draco’s always up for some mischief. Written for the @drarrymicrofic prompt, “miracle”.

Harry waits, fists clenched, hardly daring to breathe.

Draco, the git, just quirks an eyebrow. “I’m an Unspeakable, not a miracle-worker.”

“Oh, come on!” Harry tosses up his hands and turns away. “Fine. I’ll find a way to fix the Hinkypunk infestation in the men’s bathroom myself, then.”

Draco rolls his eyes. “Apologies for not being at your beck and call all hours of the day, darling. But I’ll help you -” he raises a finger as Harry turns back to face him eagerly “- on one condition.”

Harry steps between Draco’s legs. Merlin, he looks delectable in those Unspeakable robes, charmed a beguiling midnight blue that shimmers only in shadow. Harry catches glimpses of him during the day: a wisp of a coattail as it whips around a corner; a flash of platinum hair in the Atrium; a secret smile just for him whenever Harry wanders onto the Unspeakable floor, much to his co-workers chagrin. He’s never been good at staying away from Draco; how could he, when Draco’s starlight and smoke, a bundle of familiar melodrama and memories, and three floors away in a Ministry that doesn’t mind if Harry takes yet another lunchbreak?

“Anything.”

Draco grins, sharp and brilliant. Leans further back against the desk. 

“You’re making dinner tonight.”

Harry groans.

got a new world in his view

For the @drarrymicrofic prompt: fresh, ~1100 words. I was absolutely inspired by this picture by @upthehillart. Thank you @softlystarstruck for the beta!

Harry knows, intellectually, that Draco is Teddy's cousin. Harry has even seen the two of them in the same room together, last Christmas at the Burrow, when Molly had invited quite literally everyone and their mother; even Narcissa, somehow, who had gracefully and perhaps wisely declined the invitation, but nevertheless delivered an enchanted apple pie via Draco that managed to generate five pies' worth of pie. ("Enough to poison us all," George had said dourly, ignoring the serving knife Narcissa had sent in favor of plucking his second piece out of the dish with his fingers.)

This knowledge that Draco and Teddy are related and might actually have cause to spend time together does nothing— not a damned thing — to prepare Harry for wandering into Andromeda's living room and finding it occupied by Draco, pacing sedately by the large windows overlooking the backyard, with a curly blue head resting against his slender shoulder and a small arm slung over his back.

"Er, hey," Harry says eloquently. By some miracle it comes out fairly quiet, which means his ability to operate on instinct must not be affected by the white noise building in his brain over the way his boyfriend’s biceps fill out their sleeves while he cradles Harry's godson. "Is Andromeda..."

"Shopping," Draco mouths, with a pointed glance down at Teddy, and then he leaves Harry and returns to pacing by the windows, humming softly as he goes.

Wordlessly, Harry retreats into the fresh green-walled kitchen and starts the mechanical act of making tea, waving his wand at the kettle and absentmindedly taking out two mugs from the golden-paneled cabinet. Something warm and yearning has taken up precious real estate in Harry's chest that otherwise might have been used by his lungs, and maybe that's why he feels vaguely light-headed.

When the tea's ready, Harry heads into the living room. He casts a stasis charm on one cup, leaving it on the end table where Draco will see it, and then settles on the sofa and waits for Draco to make his way back across the room.

As Draco gets closer, Harry can see that his shoulders have started to round inwards. He must be growing tired; Teddy might be small for his age, but he's still over two years old and getting heavier all the time, and Harry wonders how long Draco has been carrying him.

Draco stops in front of the sofa. Leaning backwards with one forearm still supporting Teddy's bottom, he lifts his other hand from Teddy's back and mutters along to a complicated gesture that looks like it should be familiar but isn't, and then Harry is hit with the actually familiar sensation of being dropped in a sound-proofing bubble.

"There. Now it's just us," Draco announces in an aloof, casual voice, as if he hasn't just cast the most intricate version of muffliato that Harry's ever seen, somehow bending the contours of a proximity-based spell to exclude Teddy like water flowing around a rock.

"We both know you only show off like that when you want in my pants," Harry says. He levels his gaze at Draco over the rim of his mug as he pretends to sip his tea.

A pleased smirk crosses Draco's face. "Potter, I would never. Not in front of the baby," he says archly, and Harry finds it oddly comforting to discover he's not the only one struggling to accept the fact that Teddy hasn't been a baby in at least a year.

"Right," Harry says in a dry voice. Setting his mug down on the hardwood floor, he leans back and sinks into the sofa, stretching his arms overhead until they touch the wall behind him. A faint current of air brushes against the hairs where his jumper's ridden up below his bellybutton: Draco's eyes drop to the exposed strip of skin, and then his tongue wets his lips, like he's fucking thirsty, and Harry nearly chokes on a laugh. He stretches one last time — mostly out of spite — and stands, ambling the few steps over to Draco.

"Why don't I take over before you hurt yourself," he says. The words come out even better than he'd intended, low and warm, bringing a flush to Draco's fair cheeks.

"He might wake up," Draco warns, but Harry only sidles beside Draco and slips his right arm between Teddy and Draco's chest, gently hooking the boy toward him, his other arm replacing Draco's to support Teddy from beneath. Teddy makes a small noise and then settles against Harry, as if all he's done is roll over in his sleep, and Harry grins wryly.

"I honestly didn't expect that to work," he comments, as Draco carefully extricates Teddy's pinned arm and rearranges it to drape loosely around Harry's neck.

Draco gives an airy snort. "And I would have left you to it. I've put in my time. You think he's sweet now, but he did bite me earlier, the wanker."

"You can't just call a fucking baby a wanker, Draco," Harry says, amused.

"You can't just fucking swear in front of a baby, Harry."

"He can't fucking hear me, can he."

"Then it doesn't fucking matter," Draco hisses.

Harry knows he shouldn't be laughing — his chest is moving too much — but he can't help it, and Draco is clutching his shoulder and ordering him to stop and threatening him with violence if he wakes Teddy, and Teddy is stalwartly sleeping on, and Draco is turning red, and there are tears in Harry's eyes, and this. This is what he wants.

Teddy brings out the best in both of them. Teddy is new and the world is new to Teddy; he'll see it with fresh eyes, a world where Harry is just Uncle Harry and Draco is just Uncle Draco. A world where the lightning on Harry's forehead and Draco's chest are just lines for little fingers to trace, and the hard things from the past are only stories. A world without all the weight they're both forced to carry while they navigate the curse-pocked minefield of trying to love and forgive each other, fraught and frustrating and brilliant as it is, with moments like this.

It's alright if they can't let go of all of it, Harry realizes. They'll get as far as they can, and Teddy will let go of the rest for them.

something so magic about you

For the @drarrymicrofic prompt, From Eden. CW for mild gore, body horror.

Vibrant and bone-dry leaves crackle under Harry's feet as he follows Draco's lead through the Forbidden Forest. The late autumn sun hangs heavy in the sky, obscured by the dense covering of trees, but Draco plods onward, Auror robes swishing behind him with each determined footstep.

"What do you think it is?" Harry asks, rubbing his thumb over a nick in the wand in his pocket. "You're the brains, here; I'm the brute force. So, Brains, what's causing all this?"

Draco gestures vaguely as he follows the overgrown path past a stream as thick and black as tar.

"Fuck if I know, Brute Force," Draco chuckles, and then, "That was ridiculous, and we'll never speak of it again."

"Deal."

"Good. Anyway, the Ministry should've sent Unspeakables on this one." There's a rigidity in his fingertips as Draco reaches for a lily, its petals crumbling like ash under his touch.

"Guess," Harry says, leading them further down the path with a hand slipped deep in Draco's pocket.

"Time-released curse... Fae, maybe. Though some of the reports seem to point towards ancient Elven magic. But even then," he says, pausing to chew on his lip and wipe the remnants of the flower on his robes, "it doesn't add up."

"Why not?" Harry asks, eyes wide as a doe passes through the rotting stream. Her eyes are hazy, clouded in a black veil, and her ribs protrude from her fur like a bony mountain range erupting from her skin.

"Because even Elves weren't this fucking sick," Draco sneers as he, too, watches the deer traipse through the tarry sludge in restrained horror.

"Think we should be worried?"

"About what?" Draco asks, turning to face Harry.

"Er, being here? What if it--whatever it is--rubs off on us?"

Draco takes a slow step forward and then another. His movements are graceful, languid in the way he stalks towards Harry, backing him against a tree. Though the outer layers of bark shatter like glass at Harry's touch, Draco takes another careless step, pressing his solid weight against Harry's chest.

"Scared, darling?" Draco whispers, sending a shudder down Harry's spine as he licks the shell of Harry's ear.

"No," Harry scoffs, dragging Draco closer by the hips as the tree starts to disintegrate behind him.

"Mmm," Draco hums, soft and soothing, into the crook of Harry's neck. "I don't believe you."

"Yeah?" Harry steers Draco by the hips and turns to switch their positions, pressing Draco firmly against the crumbling tree. "Believe me now?" He kisses Draco deeply, unconcerned for his surroundings as he loses himself in the precious bits of Draco's exposed skin, the strange taste of burnt sugar on Draco's tongue.

Breathless and laughing, Draco pulls back, leaning his head against the trunk and exposing the long column of his neck. A flicker of shadow draws Harry's eye, but disappears when Draco straightens to catch his gaze.

"Sure, sweetheart," Draco drawls, sickly sweet, "I believe you."

With a satisfied smirk, Harry leans in, unable to resist stealing one last kiss. He shivers when Draco's lips part, releasing a soft, pleased sound, lured by Harry's tight grip on his waist, his leg between Draco's thighs.

"Ouch," Harry mutters as a playful bite draws blood. "What was that for?" He asks, wiping his mouth with the back of his hand. It stains his skin red.

"Oh, sorry, love," Draco says as he swipes his thumb over Harry's lip. With a wicked grin, he sucks the smear of blood from his finger and releases it with a 'pop.'

"Draco? Are you alright?" Another shadow shifts beneath Draco's chin, outlining raised ridges that circle his neck like a layered necklace. Harry steps back instinctively, shaking his head to dismiss the sight, but the usually pale and smooth skin of Draco's neck doesn't reappear.

"I'm fine, love," Draco says with a smile. His eyes darken with his stare, as though a layer of grime and dirt settled over his iris between blinks. An icy chill prickles the back of Harry's neck as Draco's skin wraps tightly around his collarbones with each of his increasingly labored breaths, exposing the maze of ink-black veins beneath the thin and shiny layers of skin.

"Draco, we need to go."

Draco shakes his head, smile still in place. Harry's heart lodges in his throat as he backs further away, watching as the spidery veins crawl up Draco's neck and distort the whites of his eyes.

"Oh, we can't leave Harry," Draco says, thin, breathless. "The Forest will collect what's owed, first. You were quite a prize to lose when you walked away."

"Draco..."

"So much power, just out of reach, the taste never quite forgotten." Draco tilts his head with a swift snap of his spine. "It's been waiting for you."

"Draco, let's go. Now. We have to leave--"

Draco sinks against the tree, crossing his arms as a crow swoops down to land on his shoulder, the bird's skin rotting and slipping from its fragile skeleton.

"Scared yet, darling?"

Pathetic, Ordinary, Liars is a must-read, especially since it’s centered around the dark golden trio supporting each other once they’re sorted into Slytherin. the first fic is finished and the author has just started their second year.

Shadow Magic is a retelling of the series if harry was amoral and granted dark magic by the horcrux. harry/theodore nott is the main pairing and they’re a perfect picture of creepy devotion.

i don’t know if you’re into crossovers but the Harvest Addams series is a classic and probably the first ever fic featuring the Addams family raising dark harry. fair warning, it’s been unfinished for a while. 

oh, and while I haven’t published them yet, I am also working on a retelling of the series featuring a dark golden trio and another au with bellatrix and rodolphus raising fem!harry

If you're a Slytherin or even if you're not read Evitative. The house representation is amazing, the magic is beautiful, the story is a journey and you just want to insert yourself into the universe and take it with the characters. I cried i laughed i refused to sleep, all because of this fic. It's the best Slytherin portrayal I've read and it just warms up my little snake heart so much. It talks about dark magic in a way thats absolutely stunning and breathtaking and just Oh My God. READ IT.

Do you know any fics with slytherin!harry. Preferably in the long range?

I have a few! I am very picky about my Slytherin!Harry, because I don’t like him to be OOC (sooo no Harry supporting Voldemort or anything like that) and I find that a lot of Slytherin!Harry fics make him into an entirely new character. I thought the following ones were very well done though!

Slytherin!Harry Recs

Leo Inter Serpentes by Aeternum (658K combined so far)- Just one conversation between two eleven year old boys goes slightly differently, and the world changes. Just how much will be different with Harry being sorted into Slytherin, and how much will stay the same?My favorite Slytherin!Harry fic! It’s a canon re-write starting from book one, but enough things change that it stayed exciting throughout! Also Harry has a pet snake! And Snape becomes his mentor!! ALL THE GOOD THINGS!!! You should be warned that it’s a WIP. But the author is currently actively posting the 6th book, and I have hope it won’t be abandoned :)

Written on the Heart by who_la_hoop (114K)- Harry doesn’t mind that so many Slytherins from his year have returned to finish their NEWTs, really he doesn’t. It’s just – do they have to be so friendly? He’s not prejudiced, really he’s not. It’s just – they’ve got to be up to something, right? Malfoy Flavor by Vorabiza (199K)- Harry’s ready to banish the Golden Boy image and take charge of his life. Unfortunately for him, or fortunately, there are surprises in store for him.Okay so this one might be a tiiiiiiiny bit ooc, but I LOVE VORABIZA’S STUFF and it’s so fun to read that in this case I don’t even care. Harry disguises himself as Dustin Snape (okay I know I also had to get over the fact that this is a horrible name) and “transfers” into Hogwarts and is a total badass and just READ IT.

Other People’s Choices by Lomonaaeren (82.5K so far)- AU. The Sorting Hat doesn’t just let the Sword go when it falls on Harry’s head in the Chamber, but also Sorts him again, this time into Slytherin. Harry is furious and terrified, and the adults aren’t helping much.WIP. And I haven’t read it yet!!! But it looks amazing and Lomon is always amazing, so I am very excited for it to be finished. Also, if you are just looking for a Slytherin-esque (adult) Harry or Dark!Harry or Grey!Harry, she has written a ton of that in other completed fics!

Progressive Displacement by GatewayGirl (21K)- Harry didn’t mean the wish that way. From his point of view, it hadn’t even worked.Another one I haven’t read! I just discovered it right this very moment while poking around to make this list, but it looks really good! I think Harry wakes up in several alternate realities, and he’s a different Slytherin!Harry each time. All I know for sure is that it starts with Harry taking Draco from Azkaban, and I love that <3

Cunning and Ambition by MinaAndChao (372K)- “The weak in courage is the strong in cunning” -William Blake. One small gesture and one simple sentence change lives, and through it, history. A Slytherin!Harry AU. Abandoned in the sixth book.This series is a pretty straight-forward Slytherin!Harry re-write, and it stays pretty similar to canon. It was abandoned in Book Six.

Also someday (hopefully!!) you will be able to read my WIP, Test of Time! Harry and Draco both go back in time to just before first year, and Harry ends up being sorted Slytherin this time around. There will be Slytherin politics and Draco teaching Harry how to be more Slytherin (among many other things; this is just a side-plot), and it will diverge almost entirely from canon :D
