Tohru Honda: a Subversion of Shoujo’s Nice Girl Trope

Fruits Basket absolutely nails subverting your expectations of character tropes in anime. 

Momiji is introduced as the cute childish boy but boom we are slapped with the fact that he a mother who hated him so much she had her memories wiped of him. Shigure right off the bat looks like the typical perverted uncle of anime when in reality he is one the most manipulative characters in the series. Ayame is the flamboyant, boisterous one whose bravado hides his regret and desire to repent for his past neglect of his younger brother. Which ultimately brings me to the protagonist of Furuba itself, Tohru Honda.

Aomine being a late riser is cool, but Aomine being an early bird is cooler. He's so much of an early bird 4:30 hits the clock and he's out of bed preparing some quick pre-breakfast, by 5:00 he's already doing his morning run/exercises, by 6:30 he's taking a shower and by 6:45 he's back in bed for his morning nap that will probably last until 10 (or 12... or it will merge with his afternoon nap and last until 15).

And so the world wanted all of his friends to find out about it within one week, on the training camp.

Akashi found out when at 4:50am he walked in on Aomine eating his pre-breakfast. He just swallowed his sandwich and said: "Want some?", while Akashi rechecked the clock over and over.

Midorima found out when Aomine tries to sneak back into the room and wasn't so silent about doing so. He observed his teammate for the next few days, until one day, Aomine wasn't so silent about waking up. Midorima had never been more confused.

Kise found out when he had cleaned the dishes in the evening, but found some plates in the sink in the morning, then got yelled at for not cleaning. It took him a lot of explaining ad Akashi backing him up in is statement before the coach believed him.

Murasakibara found out when he got hungry in the middle of the night and went to eat some snacks. Aomine casually passed him in the corridor and said "Goodnight" and poor Atsushi thought he saw a ghost wishing him death.

Kuroko found out when he was enjoying his morning tea in the kitchen and Aomine tried sneaking in. Kuroko only watched with amusement before Aomine spotted him and screamed in fear.

Kagami found out later. He couldn't sleep before a match so he went to shoot some hoops. Aomine just casually ran next to the court while Kagami had to triple look. He had to pinch himself to make sure he was awake.

Bonus:

While sleeping with his significant other, Aomine makes sure to slip back in their arms before they wake up, then he plays the role of the late riser and snuggler, keeping his partner in bed for way longer than their usual. They found out he disappears in the morning one time when they woke up while he was sneaking out. They keep it a secret from him. Aomine doesn't have to know that they know.
