story introduction: THE LIVING TOWER

For millennia, magic has been the foundation of human society and its expansion. Soulspeakers—manipulators of the universe's many elements—raised cities, crossed seas, and lifted ships from the oceans into the skies. Civilization grew past the Earth's ring to the fae-inhabited moon and stretched as far as Mars, where elves and giants roam.

Now, nearly four thousand years of unity threaten to come to an end as power-hungry rulers seek out war. With so much hanging in the balance, it can be hard to tell who is trying to end the wars, and who is trying to win them.

Val has been held prisoner in her tower since she massacred twenty soldiers with her powerful magic. Ellias, the witch who taught her to wield her abilities, is desperately searching for a way to undo his mistake. The girl he'd hoped could stop the growing threat of war on Earth has grown into a deadly weapon.

He seeks a solution on the moon's Iron Citadel, a city built thanks to the magic of human soulspeakers. Under its surface lies the fae caverns and rumors of a powerful weapon. Ellias, unable to pursue the legend alone, enlists the help of the Iron Library's Salestia. With Salestia's knowledge and his magic, they have a chance to restore order.

But even those who claim to want peace are keeping secrets. And back on Earth, the tower has a secret of its own. If the right people can't learn to trust each other, a power-hungry king could bring an end to thousands of years of unity among humanity's civilizations.

the collared crow is a stocky member of the corvid family found in china & vietnam. they are named for their distinctive white marking spreading from the back of the neck to the middle of the chest in a ‘collar’ formation. they are omnivorous feeders, taking many foods like rice, insects, and human litter. they are sometimes known to fly “lazily”, letting their feet dangle in flight.

Old stories tell of princesses locked away in towers, women who were supposed to reclaim their thrones and end wars. But in this world, the tower is more than it appears, the princess has no intentions of bringing peace, and the witch struggles to undo his mistakes.
