“I am not whinin’! This is my normal tone!” Peter gestured at his sidewalk chalk art. He was proud of it! It had started off looking a bit rough around the edges, but it was definitely a bird in a tree with sunshine! “Well it’s not gonna end up in a museum or nothin’, but I drew it!”
“If yah say so.” Anna sighed, shaking her head slightly. Despite the reaction, there was a slight smile on her face. He really did remind her a bit of some of her kids. “Yah did. An’ Ah can’t say it ain’t nice regardless.”

“This is a hold-up! Your money or your life! Aw, man, I’ve always wanted to say that!”
God. Damn. It. One normal day. Was that really too much to ask for? One normal day? Apparently so, since in this universe she couldn’t even grab a coffee without the place being potentially robbed. And without her shield too, how convenient. Literally conveinent. She would have definitely used it on instinct and that would have definitely triggered some alarm bells from the locals. Now, how to-
Wait, ‘Sugah’? Was that, no, it couldn’t be. Rogue? The Rogue? Okay well now she just had to step in and say something. Except, she really shouldn’t, since she was playing the ‘regular citizen’ and all that. But this would just be like, being a good samaritan, right? A good samaritan that, just happened to have potentally very useful superpowers.
Ah, fuck it.
“You guys know that you can be tried as adults past the age of 16, right? So robbing a coffee shop, not the best move.”
@dontcallmebuggirl
Cassie swore under her breath. There was a boy blocking the exit, and no way she could move them. She caught another– a boy who’d been casting looks her way the whole time she’d been here and who she’d been steadily ignoring– smirking at her before stalking up to the register. He shoved aside the girl who spoke (she seemed oddly familiar) and conjured a blade of pure energy to threaten the cashier with.
One made of stone, one crackling with electricity, and a fourth one of undetermined abilities who seemed to just be standing there. Exits blocked, people’s lives in danger. Cassie recognized Rogue, so that was a small relief, but still. She couldn’t grow in here, couldn’t change into her costume. If she stayed small she could protect her identity, but that limited her in terms of fighting and was dangerous.
@thesouthernrogue
“Oh, yeah? What are you going to do about it, X-Man? Fight one of your own kind to protect these flatscans like always?”
The kid sneered at her. Rogue just sighed, resisting the urge to roll her eyes. The rhetoric truly never changed.
“Ah don't tend tah make a habit o’ fighting kids Ah ain’t trainin’.” She replied, strolling out from behind the table to give herself a more opportune position.
“If yah'd like an impromptu lesson though, please continue.”
She heard the girl speak up from near the counter and smiled. She could appreciate those kinds of guts.
“She has a point. Deal with me, deal with the courts, deal with both. Trust me, they keep cells specifically for people like us an' they ain't nice. A coffee shop tip jar really ain't worth it.”

Anna was distracted, a stack of papers in front of her and a coffee cup in her hand. She often found it easier to get work done away from the school, somewhere she didn't have to worry about students or teammates interrupting her. Absorbed in her marking, she didn't even notice the boys walk in until one of them was standing in front of her.
“This is a hold-up! Your money or your life! Aw, man, I’ve always wanted to say that!”
She sighed, making note of the energy crackling between his hands. So much for getting away from all this.
“Sugah,” she started, getting to her feet and making sure the logo on her jacket was clearly visible. “Trust me, yah don't want to do this.”
@captcincmerica
Cassie set her bags down at the table before grabbing her drink, a cold venti vanilla milk and a chocolate pastry. A little treat yoself day for finally buckling down and doing her college applications. Now she was out shopping and getting something at a little coffee shop in New York. She took her seat, humming softly to herself. She glanced up, watching as others entered the shop.

“Y’know it’s possible tah do that without whinin’, right?” Anna sighed, hands on her hips in a stance her students and co-workers would know well. “Only technically?”
thesouthernrogue:
“Y'know, yah sound like some o’ the kids Ah teach. Ain’t sure it’s a good look for someone your age.”
“It’s a very good look. I’m stayin’ young at heart! What’s so wrong with that, huh? ‘Sides, this is art. Technic’ly.”

HOZIER SENTENCE STARTERS
taken from hozier’s first album & his ep from eden. feel free to change pronouns, etc!
TAKE ME TO CHURCH
‘ you’re the giggle at a funeral. ’ ‘ i should’ve worshiped you sooner. ’ ‘ if the heavens ever did speak, you’re the last true mouthpiece. ’ ‘ the only heaven i’ll be sent to is when i’m alone with you. ’ ‘ i was born sick, but i love it. ’ ‘ i’ll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies. ’ ‘ i’ll tell you my sins, and you can sharpen your knife. ’ ‘ let me give you my life. ’ ‘ if i’m a pagan of the good times, my lover’s the sunlight. ’ ‘ that looks tasty. ’ ‘ there is no sweeter innocence than our gentle sin. ’
ANGEL OF SMALL DEATH & THE CODEINE SCENE
‘ we’re shaking the wings of our terrible youths. ’ ‘ i lurched like a stray to the arms that were open. ’ ‘ with your sweetened breath and your tongue so mean, you’re the angel of small death and the codeine scene. ’ ‘ i lay my heart down with the rest at your feet. ’ ‘ it’s bloody and raw, but i swear it is sweet. ’
JACKIE AND WILSON
‘ so tired trying to see from behind the red in my eyes. ’ ‘ you found me just in time. ’ ‘ i never felt young. ’ ‘ you’re gonna save me. ’ ‘ call me ‘baby,’ run your hands through my hair. ’ ‘ we’ll steal a lexus, be detectives, ride around picking up clues. ’ ‘ it’d be great to find a place we could escape to sometime. ’ ‘ i’m happy to lie back, watch it burn and rust. ’ ‘ i tried the world; good god, it wasn’t for me. ’
SOMEONE NEW
‘ you knew who i was with every step that i ran to you. ’ ‘ would things be easier if there was a right way? there is no right way. ’ ‘ i fall in love just a little bit every day with someone new. ’ ‘ there’s an art to life’s distraction. ’ ‘ some like to imagine the dark caress of someone else; i guess any thrill will do. ’
TO BE ALONE
‘ i never feel to good in crowds with folks around. ’ ‘ all i’ve ever done is hide. ’ ‘ when you kill the lights and kiss my eyes, i feel like a person for a moment of my life. ’ ‘ you don’t know what hell you put me through. ’ ‘ it feels good to be alone with you. ’ ‘ now at last the worst is over. ’ ‘ i know you hate this place. not a trace of me would argue. ’ ‘ we should run away. ’
FROM EDEN
‘ there’s something tragic about you. ’ ‘ there’s something so magic about you. ’ ‘ there’s something lonesome about you - something so wholesome about you. ’ ‘ get closer to me. ’ ‘ you’re familiar. ’ ‘ idealism sits in prison; chivalry fell on its sword. ’ ‘ innocence died screaming - ask me, i should know. ’ ‘ i slithered here from eden just to sit outside your door. ’ ‘ there’s something wretched about this. ’ ‘ there’s something so precious about this. ’ ‘ to the strand, a picnic planned for you and me - a rope in hand for your other man to hang from a tree. ’
IN A WEEK
‘ i have never known peace. ’ ‘ i have never known hunger like these insects that feast on me. ’ ‘ we’ll lay here for years or for hours - thrown here or found, to freeze or to thaw - so long we become the flowers. ’ ‘ they’d find us in a week. ’ ‘ i’d be home with you. ’ ‘ i have never known colours like this morning reveals to me. ’ ‘ you haven’t moved an inch; such that i would not know if you sleep always like this, the flesh calmly growing cold. ’
SEDATED
‘ just a little rush, babe, to feel dizzy, to derail the mind of me. ’ ‘ my veins are busy, but my heart’s in atrophy. ’ ‘ you and i, nursing on a poison that never stung - our teeth and lungs are lined with the scum of it. ’ ‘ free and young, and we can feel none of it. ’ ‘ i’m somewhere outside my life. i keep scratching, but somehow i can’t get in. ’ ‘ i’m a slave to any semblance of touch. ’ ‘ i should cool it, but i love it too much. ’ ‘ don’t you stand there watching, won’t you come and save me? ’ ‘ don’t you join in, you’re supposed to drag me away from it. ’

In what ways does your character compare themselves to others? Do they do this for the sake of self-validation, or self-criticism?
Anna constantly compares her path to this point in her life to the one’s the people around her took. Even after all this time, she still struggles to see herself as a hero and sometimes feels she doesn’t deserve what she has. It’s extremely self-critical and unfair to herself.
