“Much appreciated,” she sighed in relief. The last thing she wanted was to inconvenience anyone with her children’s whims, so the stranger’s kindness didn’t go unappreciated. “The cat might be lucky, but she doesn’t deserve this royal treatment. She’s just cute enough to be worth the trouble.”

Spencer chuckled. “Personally, I’m gonna have to agree with you.” He shrugged. “I mean, I’ve never met a cat I didn’t like but a whole castle for one cat.” He shook his head. “Your family must really love them.” He told her with a smile.

It used to happen all the time - people approaching him, asking him about his book. Believe it or not, he’d once had a small, but dedicated group of fan girls, even… He’d made the tour of all the major Canadian and American morning talk shows, and whether it was for his writing, or the fact that he was young and moderately attractive, people seemed to make it a point to remember his face. But as time wore on, the attention lessened. Now, at most, he got a couple vague ‘hey, do I know you’s a year, and even that was usually only when they heard his name.
He didn’t hate being recognized; it was just intensely uncomfortable. He’d moved on from that stage of his life, but he could never quite seem to convey that in a way that was acceptable to others. He winced as he heard someone calling out behind him, plastering his best attempt at a neutral face and he spun back on his heel. “Stephen King? Sorry, I wish…”

Spencer chuckled and shook his head. He felt bad for approaching him but this was probably going to be one of his only chances to catch him without seeming like a stalker. “No, man. You’re Leo Castillo-Davis, right?” He asked with raised brows.
He cleared his throat and reached into his pocket and pulled out the notebook he always kept with him. “I’m an author too.” He waved the book a little. “I mean, I’m trying to be anyways.” He shrugged and laughed awkwardly. “I’ve read all your books and I just gotta ask, are you working on anything else?” Spencer asked him in a hopeful voice.

Shifting awkwardly, he realized now he was actually going to have to remember how jumper cables worked. It seemed like the better option, though, then leaving the truck out in the middle of nowhere. “Cool, I think I have some, but.. Truck’s a mess, so..” He shrugged. He hadn’t really been paying attention to the time - He rarely paid attention to the time, something that often became an issue. “Uh, awhile. Phone’s dead, so I haven’t really been… Timing it.” Shit, did that make him sound like an asshole? It probably did, hopefully the guy wouldn’t rescind his offer of help.

Spencer nodded. “Don’t worry about it.” He grabbed his cables and motioned towards his car. “Hope we can get it to start. I used to work on cars when I was a teenager so if it doesn’t work, I can have a look at it.” He told him. “I mean, hopefully it was just a dead battery.” He told him.
He hoped this was the only thing going bad in the others live. Spencer knew that car troubles on top of everything else was always a hassle. He smiled. “No worries. Glad I came around... It’s getting kind of dark and I’m not sure that this road sees that much traffic.” He replied.

where: spencer’s apartment
who: @rowan-cassidy
Spencer wasn’t expecting anyone when he heard the knock on his door. He sighed and put his book and his glasses on the table, annoyed as he walked over to the door. Not even bothering to check who it was, he opened the door.
The expression on his face suddenly changed from annoyance to utter shock. He shook his head and almost closed the door. There was no way she was standing out there. “Rowan... What... Why... You... Here?” He managed out. Spencer stepped away from the door and opened it wider for her so she could come inside.
He threw himself onto the couch and glanced over at her. “Please... can you tell me why you’re here?” Spencer asked her.

Spencer didn’t have a lot of experience with religion but a character in his novel was extremely religious, so he thought he would check out some of the local areas of worships. He wasn’t paying attention, writing down a final note before he was about to walk in.
When he looked up, it was too late. The woman had bumped into him. He smiled at her and shook his head. Spencer closed his notebook and shoved it into his back pocket. “No, no. It’s fine.” He said with a smile. “Are you okay?” Spencer asked her. “I mean it seemed like you were trying to get outta here pretty quickly?” The man glanced around. “No one around here being a creep, right?”

in front of elisabeth central mosque / open starter ( @elisabethstarters ).
There was a strange feeling at the pit of her stomach. It had been sometime since Mina attempted anything with her faith, in fact, it had been a shaky subject to her since her mother’s untimely passing. She had cursed Allah and every other religious figure she spent her life believing and worshiping. They didn’t have any reason to take her mother, even if she believed that someone was gone just because they died, she missed her and it was too painful the reality that the woman didn’t get to see the long and happy life her youngest daughter and Mina’s sister was having right now. So, Mina stood there, unsure of what she should do. Should she go in and bask in the familiarity of home the mosque could offer and maybe jog back memories from when the entire family attended, or should she turn and leave, stop being in the way of other people’s paths as she was standing there, in the middle of the sidewalk, looking at the building as if it was going to swallow her whole. She took a deep and shaky breath, in through the nose and out through the mouth, like her mother had taught her, like her father still told her to do whenever things seemed confusing and overwhelming. With a clear of her throat, the woman took a step back, decided not to go in, except she ended up crashing into someone else, lips pressing together as she turned around, hands on her mouth. ❝ Oh my God, I’m so so sorry—- ❞ her almond eyes were wide as she looked at the person. ❝ Are you okay ? ❞

Spencer was nervous. He knew it was only a matter of time before he found himself in a situation that would put him and Leo in the same room. For years, he had thought about only this. Sure Spencer knew how insane he sounded but when he found out about his brother... He thought for once, he could have someone in his family to connect with.
He was just finishing up his coffee when he spotted the author. Spencer got up so quickly, and threw himself out the door. Almost tripping over himself, he jogged a little to catch up with him. Spencer didn’t think before he blurted out the first thing he could think of. “Hey! You’re that author, right?” He asked, flashing him a smile.

Spencer didn’t mind waiting. He only needed some nails to hang up a new photo he got last week. When the woman in front of him started talking, he offered her a small smile. Spencer chuckled. “Well, lucky cat.” He told her. “I don’t mind waiting...” He paused and waved the nails. “I only have these so really, take your time.” He smiled back.

WHERE: a hardware shop in Myrtle Rock WHO: anyone @elisabethstarters
Darcy didn’t mean to hold up the line at the shop, but when a fairly short woman tries to lug around planks of wood and a cart full of various hardware supplies, things tend to get…complicated. Spotting someone familiar, she flashes them a guilty smile. “I’m sure you have questions, and the answer to all of them is that I’m a fantastic mother who is building a ‘cat palace’ for Teaspoon,” she explains, unprompted. They could’ve just gone to Ikea, they could’ve just bought the one from PetSmart, but no. Quinn insisted that they build the spoiled cat’s palace from scratch. And of course, none of her lovely children could be bothered to accompany Darcy to the store - they were 'busy’. So there she was, trying not to whack someone in the face with a 2x4 as she waited for the cashier to bag up her things.

Jack thought it was pretty fucking obvious that he was not at all, whatsoever, all right. But he bit his tongue, and gave a smile he tried not to let look too forced. “Dunno, it just.. Well, it stopped. Uh..” He had known, of course, it was gonna come down to this, but he felt so stupid asking, especially because he’d only done this once or twice.
“Is there any chance I could get a jump?” Jack had no idea if that would actually work, and he also had no idea if this guy was going to look at him like an idiot and drive off. “Or, uh, a ride to Fremont? I’d call someone, but there’s no fucking cell service out here.”

Spencer nodded. “I mean either, I’m fine with both. I’ve got some cables in my truck that I can use.” He turned the car off and opened the door. Spencer walked back and opened the truck. “How long have you been out here?” He continued, offering him a sympathetic look.

Spencer had just gotten his car back. He had hit something while he was backing up and they wanted to keep it overnight to take a look at it. Knowing him, it would cost him an arm and a leg to get it fixed... He was right.
When he saw someone flagging down a car, he slowed down and pulled in front of the car. Spencer rolled down the window and poked his head out. “Hey man, you alright?” He asked.
@elisabethstarters
Sometimes Jack felt like nothing had even changed, since he’d stopped work on the boats with his father. Specifically, the times when his dad was too busy day drinking to go to the market, and sent Jack instead. Honestly, he almost couldn’t fault the old man, he sure as hell would rather be at the bar then here.

Here being the side of the road on the way back to Fremont, staring under the hood of his truck, pretending like he knew jack shit about engines. At first, he’d figure maybe his memory would be jogged when he popped the hood, but it was a totally blank slate. And there was no way in hell he was going to call his dad for help. Instead, he took a deep breath, trying to swallow whatever embarrassment he knew he’d feel, and attempted to wave down a passing car.

Spencer had just come out of the bookstore when he noticed the car and the man running away. He hung around for a few moments to see if the owner would show up and when he did, he shot him a reassuring smile. “Oh, yeah.. Well, it looked like some teenager... He uh, I think he did another car too.” Spencer pointed to a car down the street that had a similar look. “Thought I’d hang back in case he showed up again.” Spencer told him.
SATURDAY, OCT 3rd, 2020. ANYWHERE, Port Elisabeth.
Tumblr media
“No, no, no…” Alec mumbled as he spotted the small crowd of people gathered around the Gran Coupé, a birthday present he had picked up not a few days ago. The chatter was that of shock and confusion, one person running back from the street to say he couldn’t keep up with them. By the time Alec had pushed through, he saw the dents, scratches and smashed windows all topped off by a thick layer of blood-red paint, spattered across the car. “You have got to be kidding me—” He groaned, for once in his life speechless. “My son could have been in there.” The man mumbled quietly, “Did you see anything?” Alec turned to the person nearest and looked down the street.
