I just… I need a companion who’s DOWN CATASTROPHIC for the weird-looking aliens. Not the humanoid space hotties. Not the glow-y elf models. No. I’m talking about the sentient puddles. The 7-limbed slime beasts. The ooby glooby tentacle cryptids with 3 eyes. The “technically a gas” ones. Let them flirt with the unknowable. Let them kiss the incomprehensible. Let them rizz the un-rizzable.
And not in a Captain Jack way — Jack’s been around the galaxy twice and has a punch card for it. I want a companion who’s got wide-eyed wonder and accidentally discovers something about themselves mid-eye contact with a glowing orb that speaks only in harmonics. Like, “Why is this 12-foot-tall gelatinous horror blushing?” “Why am I blushing??”
And the Doctor? The Doctor is perplexed. Concerned. Mildly alarmed. But also… a little proud. Like, “That one? Seriously? Wow. Bold of you. You’ve got taste. Deranged taste. But taste.”

I am Kareman DohanŘŚ From besieged Gaza
I record this message in the 21st century, specifically in the year 2025, fully aware and in sound mind. I hereby testify, confess, and declare that a criminal entity—ruled by violent gangs—has revived the horrors of Nazism, and has even surpassed them. For over 600 days, it has committed one of the greatest atrocities of our modern age, in a place called Gaza. They murdered our children before our men, our women before our youth. They destroyed homes, displaced families, and starved the innocent. And this brutal campaign has not stopped—not even as I speak these words. The world today counts more than 8.2 billion people, Yet not a single force has been able to stop the bloodshed, or protect the defenseless.
I call upon every free soul, every conscience still alive, Spread this message far and wide.
Speak up. Act.
Support my people. Support my family.
Let your silence not be another weapon used against us.
Silence is complicity.
Solidarity is a duty.

I genuinely really enjoy the slightly religious ring that the music in gallifrey has. there's no separation of church and state, because they say they are not religious, but their rituals and mythology have a decidedly religious flavour to them. their warning system in their timeships is literally a cloister bell - a warning that could be said to be an omen that the inhabitants of said timeship will soon pass on to the afterlife. humans, too, used to ring church bells as a warning of fire or death - there's a long-standing tradition of it.
their robes, their title of "cardinal", all have a religious tinge. they say they're "more advanced" than the more "superstitious" species that they observe, but religion and mythology is more entwined in their world than it is in almost any other. the only difference is that eventually, it turns out that their gods are real. but that doesn't change the fact that they believed in them even before that.
the rest of the universe sees them as gods. would you believe that your deities have deities of their own? if you know your gods exist, how terrified would you be to find out that theirs do, too?

So like quick PSA re doctor who. If you habitually refer to the Doctors by surname then you should do the same for Whittaker and Gatwa. If you're saying Tennant Smith Capaldi but then Jodie & Ncuti for 13 and 15 you should try to stop doing that. Not directed anyone in particular, I've seen a number of people doing this and it's not a great look.

After sleeping on "The Reality War", I've come to a sort of verdict on it: I don't think this episode can be properly judged without acknowledging the behind-the-scenes issues that heavily impacted it.
Specifically, Gatwa's decision to step back due to the postponing of a formal renewal of the show.

This image has been kicking around. It's a promo image from "The Reality War" of a scene that isn't in the final episode.
It's known that reshoots for the S15 finale took place in February. Based on what the rumours and leaks say, the episode originally had a totally different ending, involving that dance party. I've also heard speculation that it would have set up Poppy as a plot hook for the next season, and there would have been a cameo from Susan Foreman to set up the plot about her return that RTD has been teasing from as early as "The Devil's Chord".
It's clear that RTD and co. were expecting the renewal to come much, much earlier than it did, and that waiting until after S15 had broadcast was not actually the original plan at all. Gatwa gets fed up because he doesn't want to put his career on hold like this, so RTD quickly concocts a new ending with a regeneration.
Poppy was never, ever intended to be turned into Belinda's daughter in the original ending, but whatever RTD had planned for her, he clearly felt it would only work with Gatwa, and so he hastily wrapped that up while also setting up a regeneration. (Incidentally, this also may have left answers to the Belinda/Mundy resemblance hanging.)
As for the Billie Piper of it all? The reshoots being almost last-minute meant RTD didn't really have time to do a full-blown casting for a new Doctor, and he clearly decided to go for shock and spectacle (for reasons that have yet to be determined). I suspect he decided on this rather than a mid-regeneration cliffhanger as a way to have a more decisive cliffhanger, hoping that people will want to know why this happened.
I will also add that Piper probably isn't playing the Doctor: no official source up to and including the episode credits have referred to her as such, and the regeneration itself also looks off.
Although RTD bears some of the responsibility for the messy way things went down, he doesn't own all of it since the lack of decision on a renewal was clearly the inciting incident here. I do hope that someday we learn what the original ending was – it doubtless would have fit the story better. And it would have fit Belinda better as well.
At least we got Jodie Whittaker in a scene not written by Chris Chibnall. The way Thirteen is written there tells me that RTD hasn't completely lost his touch.

I keep seeing takes floating around—both here and elsewhere—saying that Ncuti “deserved more seasons.” And while I completely adore him and would’ve loved to see him stay longer, as far as all available info suggests… he’s the one who chose to leave.
Like, unless there’s some behind-the-scenes detail the rest of us aren’t privy to, this wasn’t a case of the BBC pulling the rug out from under him. This was his call.
He didn’t get dealt a bad hand—he picked the card himself.
I genuinely fell in love with his Doctor, and yeah, I wish his seasons had more episodes and tighter pacing. But again, he made the decision to bow out after two seasons. And that’s valid! It just makes the “he was robbed” takes a little weird.
Maybe what people mean is that the Fifteenth Doctor deserved more time—and I’d agree with that. But that’s kind of like saying the Ninth Doctor deserved more seasons. Which, yes, absolutely, I loved him! (And yes, there were specific reasons Eccleston left—but this isn’t the post to unpack all that.) The point is, it ultimately came down to the actor’s choice.
So yeah. It's okay to mourn the short run, but let’s not rewrite the facts—he didn’t get cut short. He decided when to end his run.
Also, I’ve seen people call him the Doctor with the least screen time, and as an Eighth Doctor fan? I take that personally.
#My personal opinion is that he deserved better in the sense that he deserved better writing#He should have been introduced properly#his character should've been given the space it deserves#he should have—at the VERY least—been given a better exit#doctor who#doctor who ncuti gatwa

It’s not even just Belinda. This entire era has been weirdly pushy on enforcing motherhood as the purpose of women
Donna is confirmed to have settled down and had a child as soon as she left the doctor
Ruby is only 19 and from the very beginning she’s in a maternal role. She looks after the children Carla fosters. In space babies she immediately assumes a maternal role to look after the children.
Anita was sad and lonely and now she’s happy and pregnant (from an accidental pregnancy, isn’t she so glad that happened without her deciding to do it!)
The ranis motivation is grief about her infertility, and her plan is to create loads of new time lord children. One of her incarnations describes herself as the mother of the other.
This entire two series arc has been building up to the statement that women should be mothers, and would be so much happier if they were mothers. Whether they want it or not. When it happens they’ll realise it’s what they wanted the whole time. It’s gross and I think one of the most misogynistic plots from a modern show I’ve seen.

STOP SAYING LOOMS CANON. YOURE GETTING PEOPLES HOPES UP its not even looms canon cuz the implication is that the infertility only occurred after the master killing everybody over the timeless child. like that shit happened only to the survivors, and only like, 4 years ago or whatever theres no looms. there isnt going to be any looms. there were nevr going to BE ANY LOOMS.

It's easy to say with hindsight that Gatwa was going to get completely ripped off by RTD but it was also easy at the beginning to say that and through the middle too.
#doctor who#like wowwww they really managed to wrangle Gatwa's doctor into the disposible black girlfriend troupe huh#'oh yeah we'll have a black Doctor'#*overshadows his entrance with cheap shitty nostalgia for literally no thematic gain*#*makes him 'fix' all the Doctor's issues without ever actually going through the development on screen*#*ends his run super early with SEVERAL callback characters for the purpose of shitty nostalgia with no thematic gain*#Gatwa deserves so much better fucking hell
