Renée having messy handwriting and Renée being left handed were ideas that came to me separately, but I realised that they made sense together, since left-handed people used to be forced to write with their right hands.
'Invert' was a term used to describe gay people in the 19th and early 20th century, so Renée is making a joke about her way of writing also being inverted. While Renée herself is bisexual, there wasn't as much distinction between lesbians and bi women at the time.
Melissa is now regretting all the times she's needled Renée about her poor penmanship, not realising that she never really cared.

Just remembered that I wrote a scene where Ray mentions they're making a dungeons and dragons character. Even my OCs have OCs.

Thoughts I had while looking at this again.
Finally I've finished the more serious take on Melissa's love of the Sherlock Holmes stories (after doing the comedic version). The colours don't look as good on the scan as they do in real life, but I don't know what I can do about it.
Reading Sherlock Holmes together was one of Melissa and her father's favourite things to do, and after Barnaby died, the stories were something Melissa found comfort in. Until Sherlock Holmes was killed off. That was like one more straw on the camel's back.
Holmes being resurrected later on was bittersweet for Melissa - she was happy to have more of her favourite stories, but it stung a bit to see how easily fictional death could be undone, when the real thing never could.

Have some characters so new I haven't even named them yet! She's a nerdy wizard and he's a witch who likes gardening. The vague idea I have of something resembling a plot is that they have to work together and butt heads at first over their different ways of doing magic, but eventually become friends.
