2025 – Charming the Snake

This is the year of the green wood snake

This year is a year of creativity, inspiration and masterpiece. It is a jungle, wild and beautiful, brimming and buzzing with untapped, and sometimes hidden, resources.

This is what I like about eastern zodiac – not only do we individually have the attributes of the sign of the year we were born in, additionally each year itself has its own zodiac character and aspects.

The Wood element this year is a symbol of new growth and budding opportunities. Germination may have been unseen last year, but now the seedings have broken through the darkness, and with sunlight and warmth, the growth rate accelerates this year. But the incredible energy burst of any wood year will slow and die back with the coming winter. So do as much as you can in the spring and summer months.

The Green Wood Dragon should have helped you dream up some goals and even helped germinate them. Now the Green Wooden Snake will give you innovative inspiration to cultivate them. You are still in the woods. We are not going back to the barnyard until 2028! The Dragon brought you a self-clarity and beautiful dreams. The Snake is going to show you how to spin straw into gold, and bring those dreams to fruition. But to accomplish your goals you must be flexible, changeable and adapt quickly. You must be ready to strike, with the whiplash speed of the Snake, and you must be ready to metaphorically shed your skin.

The tranquility of the Dragon year was a welcome respite from the carnage and deluge that came before. You should be rested and well-centered, and ready to be a more social this year. This is still another year of very personal growth and individual goals, but while the Dragon wanted you to grow spiritually and idealistically, snake wants you to branch out, like the unfolding petals of a blossom and bare your spirit and ideas to the light of day. Don’t stay coiled quietly in that safe, dark basket. Hear the music this year and get up, get out and dance. Because this year is still very individualized, do pay attention to your own physical and mental health needs. Try something new and different – a different diet, a different exercise routine, cutting edge therapy and new medications. Join a support group, a training class, a sports club. Don’t just maintain, improve! Invest in a new wardrobe, better grooming. Try a new style, a new look, a new outlook. Whatever you have been doing, change up or level up. Remember that above and throughout it all, 2025 will be the Year of the Wooden Green Snake, a shimmering, fascinating year for leafing out and bursting into bloom. It will be eye-popping at the very least and bountiful at its best. Snakes are cold-blooded and lack the Dragon’s belly full of fire, so Snake is always in search of an external source of heat. Like seedlings reaching for the sun, your plans need the warmth and life-giving light to blossom and fruit. Look beyond yourself for inspiration and resources to further your goals. Just don’t get distracted or coopted by the hypnotically beautiful machinations of others.

Note: I added the years for each animal sign, but remember if you are born in January, you are ruled by the previous year’s animal sign because the Chinese New Year does not usually begin until February.

Rat (1948, 1960, 1972, 1984, 1996, 2008, 2020): Jungle or barnyard, you adapt. So, the demands of the Snake are no burden. Although you prefer to move under cover of darkness, this is not a year to stay hidden away. Don’t worry, the Snake is always a bit mysterious and will let you keep your secrets. The wood element in this year, like last, gives a real boost to your energy levels. Snakes are a beautiful ribbon of glittering scales, coiled in the sunlight. 2025 is going to look very shiny and pleasant to the Rat. Just don’t be so bedazzled that you miss the opportunity to strike. Rat’s acumen and Snake’s wisdom can be a fortuitous combination. Snake, despite being a jungle denizen and a solitary hunter, is a social creature and this year’s wood element gives the party a convivial vibe. Don’t skip it. Rat has a rare opportunity to grow their personal and romantic relationships this year. Home life will be better than expected, so long as you remember to actually go home at the end of the day. Your zodiac triad of friendship with Dragon and Monkey will be very productive, with Dragon’s approval offering a nice boost to Rat’s confidence and Monkey bringing overlooked opportunities to Rat’s attention. Your secret friend Ox, is in the Snake’s triad and having a banner year, and can lend you some extra muscle if you need a hand.

Ox (1949, 1961,1973, 1985, 1997, 2009, 2021): The wood element of this year brings spring and new growth, and continues to brings the Ox extra vigor and stamina. Snake is in your fried triad and brings you much needed creativity and inventiveness. While Snake’s lightning speed and unpredictability might contrast to Ox’s stability and dependability, actually you compliment each other perfectly. Ox’s personality is highly praised in a Snake year, and even more so because this year’s wood element is so congenial. Your Rooster friend is a boss this year, in the best possible way. Tiger (1938,1950,1962, 1974, 1986, 1998, 2010, 2022): Tigers are solitary hunters, so are snakes. Like the Azure Dragon, the Green Wood Snake does not ask Tiger to be shoulder the great burdens of leadership or fight the Herculean battles for the benefit of others. Tiger is free to hunt alone and eat whatever Tiger kills. It will be a successful year for tigers, with plenty of good hunting. Wood lends energy, the Snake lends creativity and the Tiger is unchained. Because the Tiger is noble and never nefarious, you will reap the benefits of frank and direct communications. The snake can wriggle and writhe and the plot may get twisted this year, but Tiger can preserver with patience, and confidence. Dogs (in your friendship triad) are going to be best in class show dogs this year and can be relied upon to support you unquestioningly, and their loyalty lends you credibility in your dealings with others. Horses, also in your friendship triad, share your love of freedom and will be good, physical and intellectual companions this year. Pigs (Tiger’s secret friend) although strong and fearless, don’t really enjoy the jungle – it is too uncivilized. They will be trying very hard to make plans out of the chaos. Monkey (Tiger’s zodiac frenemy) is always too clever by half, and wearies Tiger quickly with their chatter – resist the urge to stuff Monkey, or yourself, back in that dark, quiet basket.

Rabbit (1939, 1951, 1963, 1975, 1987, 1999, 2011): Hopefully the Dragon turbo charged you last year and you got ahead. You need to be very fast this year and stay ahead. The jungle is a dangerous place and rabbit is prey. The path is winding and has a lot of blind curves. The Snake is charming, beautiful, hypnotic but not your friend. Don’t let it distract you or slow you down. You are a social creature, and a sensual one. No more hiding your light. You will be dazzling this year and others will throw themselves and everything they possess in your path in a desperate, mad, passionate attempt to get your attention. Gather yea roses, but don’t let anyone subvert your goals or coopt you to their purposes. You have your very own shooting stars to catch. Dog (your secret friend in the zodiac) is steadfast, loyal to a fault and can be depended upon to speed you on your way, even if they have to carry you. Goat is likewise raring to go after a quiet year alone, but they a prone to tumble into love, scandal or intrigue (or all three), and get distracted. Your triad zodiac friend, Pig, is likewise dancing with that devil in the details right now, and not as dependable as usual. Your zodiac frenemy the Rooster is going to be surprisingly cocky for being in the jungle, and displaying some fine feathers so, maybe set them up as a decoy to get devoured while you keep running.

Dragon (1940, 1952, 1964, 1976, 1988, 2000, 2012): The Green Wood Snake is a beautiful emerald scaled tendril, coiling upward to the sound of soft music. This is how the year unfolds for the Dragons, smooth, graceful, harmonious, uplifting. You have had your 12 year reset and charted your next steps. The Snake encourages you to emerge from the cave and enjoy rebirth. Springtime and the Wood element of this year give you plenty of energy. The dazzling garden provides amble inspiration. Just don’t go wandering sun-struck, aimlessly. And don’t be tempted to overspend or stretch your finances impulsively. Your friend Rat too will be coming back to the surface and into the light, sharp-eyed and invigorated. They see the small things you can’t, so lend an ear to their perspective. Monkey will be there too, and will chew your ear off whether you lend it to them or not. So, you might as well pay attention since Monkey is very smart in matters of finance. But remember Monkey is self-interested and not always kind. Your secret zodiac friend, Rooster, is having a surprisingly good year and will be even better company. Your frenemy, Dog, is playing best in show and will not trouble you with barking. Snake (1941, 1953, 1965, 1977, 1989, 2001, 2013): This is your 12 year re-set. The Azure Dragon provided extra energy to get Snake moving. Hopefully you’ve done your picking and choosing, and are ready to move forward. If you don’t like what you are carrying with you, or the appearance you present, or the path you are on, now is the time to change it up. Shed that skin! You have the opportunity and the energy. You are looking for a source of heat and light, but you will not find it in the spotlight this year. While it is a more social year than last, the warmth you crave will be found at home with your friends and loved ones. A lower profile would be wise this year. Snake is a famous keeper of secrets, so even if you are looking for a party, stay out of the limelight. Getting what you want is going to take a planning, a light touch, a bit of subterfuge and a lot of patience. Your zodiac friends Ox is your best companion this year since opposites really do attract and you need their dependability and strength to ground your imagination and impulsiveness. Your friend Rooster will also give you sound and practical advice, and they are very easy on the eyes. Your secret friend, Monkey is a willing coconspirator and reliably free of conscience. You gallop into this new year with great enthusiasm. This year will be more social and energetic. Your abundance of charm and vibrant personality attracts the Snake and everyone else this year, bringing good fortune and opportunity directly to you. Dragon helped you recenter. You have made spiritual and philosophical changes. 2026 will be your 12 year reset so use the energy of the 2025 Wooden Snake to prioritize and make the practical and physical changes to prepare for 2026, the Year of the Red Fire Horse. The changes you want to make this year will require the cooperation of your friends and well-wishers, and fortuitously the year of the Snake is an excellent year for forging stronger interpersonal relationships. Keep your communications gracious and kind so no one feels overlooked or unappreciated. You friend Tiger will be inspiring with their fearless outlook and regal assurance of victory. Invest in whatever infrastructure upgrades or capital improvements you need to be ready for 2026.

Goat (1943, 1955, 1967, 1979, 1991, 2003, 2015): The dragon encourages dreams, while the snake wants to make those dreams a reality and cash in. Hopefully the Dragon helped you re-orient your efforts towards achieving your own goals and not just pleasing others. Just like Snake you are looking for an external source of warmth. This year you can find that warmth in the spotlight. Just be careful not to over-indulge. And, while finances will not be as tight as they were last year, you must not be impulsive or reckless in your spending or investment. Your zodiac triad friend Rabbit is on a rocket ride even you might have difficulty keeping pace with this year so at least don’t get in their way. Secret friend Horse can provide you with better company, and Horse’s discerning and refined taste will keep the entertainment elevated and but financially within bounds. Your triad friend Pig is working, too hard for your taste so they will be a less satisfying companion this year. Your frenemy the Ox, by contrast, is looking mighty fine, almost too good to resist. While they might make a good business partner, there is too high a probability you would end up mixing the business with pleasure and wrecking everything. So just resist.

Monkey (1944, 1956, 1968, 1980, 1992, 2004, 2016): Azure Dragon turbo charged your drive and mental acuity. Snake is beautiful and, while a solitary hunter, likes to socialize. Monkey is down with that! You and Snake both like looking after your own interests quite ruthlessly, but without being aloof or isolated. It takes talent, actually, to be so self-interested yet maintain good social standing. You are that talented, and Snake rewards you for it this year. The Dragon year was a little too introverted for Monkey’s comfort. Snake is a better fit. Hopefully Monkey used the year of the Dragon to center and spiritually renew. The energy and growth continue with the Snake but also allow Monkey to deepen social and emotional relationships which took a back seat last year. And with Monkey’s quick wit and gift of the gab, Monkey should be well positioned to coopt others into partnership to further Monkey’s interests. Like Horse, Monkey needs to exert personal charm and leverage good will to take advantage of golden opportunities this year. Monkey can really dominate the spotlight in business, but must avoid conflicts by maintaining frank and open lines of communication. And remain vigilant – always read the fine print! At home, the personal relationships that were neglected last year, are in desperate need of warmth and light. Keep your promises and be regimented in making time for your loved ones, or you risk, perversely, making yourself feel abandoned and neglected.

Rooster (1933, 1945, 1957, 1969, 1981, 1993, 2005, 2017): This is the jungle, but Rooster is unphased this year. Last year was an enchanted forest. This year is the Garden of Eden as far as Rooster is concerned. Rooster self-immolated on command last year and took the Snake’s desire to shed a skin to a whole other level. Fresh from the fires of rebirth, Rooster is ready to get it on. Looking good! Snake says enough of the introspection, hop out of the basket and strut your stuff. Rooster has an exciting year of growth ahead in personal and romantic connections. Your career path is bold and bright as well. You will be tapped for leadership roles and special projects where you will have the platform to dominate and achieve. You will prove yourself and be well positioned for the return of the Red Fire Horse in 2026. Do try to keep the business relationships strictly business, however. It will be difficult because Rooster’s drive and inspiration is going to be hyper-attractive this year, to everyone. This will be a financially rewarding year for Rooster, although it will be earned, not an unexpected windfall. Healthwise, like your friend Ox, do not let the turbo drive of the Wood element take you to the point of physical exhaustion. And change up/level up your diet to ensure good health and stamina.

Dog (1946, 1958, 1970, 1982, 1994, 2006, 2017): Dragon handed you back your own leash and hopefully convinced you to be your own master. You had a nice run through the,\ enchanted forest, and maybe you dreamed up some good dreams and are ready to pursue your own heart’s desire instead of everyone else’s. But you were a bit of a lost dog in that enchanted forest, and you are definitely relieved to get back to the jungle and rejoin the pack. The jungle doesn’t scare you so much as being alone. You actually feel safer this year and this helps you put on a brave face that will be universally admired. You are a show dog this year, hopefully best in show – you have the spotlight so work it. Focus on the task at hand and don’t go chasing butterflies. The year can be financially rewarding, and income will be steady, but this year you are working for the crown of laurels, the accolades and applause. The Red Fire Horse of 2026 is when you get to cash them all in. You want that external source of warmth, just as Snake does. It is a good year for strengthening your personal and romantic connections. Like Rat, your home life will be excellent this year, but only if you remember to actually go home at the end of the day. Don’t tarry, and don’t stray – go home, Doggy! Lastly, some snakes are venomous, you have a higher than usual chance of suffering a significant health setback this year. Pay close attention to even the most minor complaints, beware of sudden accidents, and adhere strictly to a healthy regime of diet and exercise. Like everyone else being turbo charged by the wood element, you must be careful not to exert yourself to the point of exhaustion. Pig (1947, 1959, 1971, 1983, 1995, 2007, 2019): Last year hopefully the Dragon helped you prioritize and self-center. The growth continues in the year of the Snake but it is so much less centralized that opportunities can be hard to predict. Snake wants you to strike swiftly which is not the Pig’s forte. Pig likes practicality and planning. Snake likes creativity and impulse. Sometimes these two approaches can be hard to marry. The good news is that growth will happen regardless of whether it is planned. Pig will find luck in unexpected places this year. Focus on sustainability and long-term growth, regardless. Networking is the key to achieving your goals this year. Like Horse and Monkey, even your stamina and intelligence won’t change the fact you need a partnership to succeed. Open and direct communication are essential. And you must read the fine print! You are going to dance this year, but not to some snake charmer’s flute. No, this year you will find yourself dancing with the devil in the details. Snake wants an external source of warmth, so this year is an opportunity to reconnect with friends and loved ones. Have the heart-to-heart conversations you put off having last year. Make time for romance and family and friends. Healthwise, you were turbo charged last year and almost certainly sacrificed everything for business. You must rehabilitate and re-prioritize your physical and mental health. The Snake wants you to shed your skin and start over fresh. Combine boosting your immune system with rebooting your romantic life by relaxing, hiking, biking, working out and getting spa treatments with your partner.

2024 There be dragons

This is the year of the green wood dragon

This year is a year of magic. Your world is an enchanted forest and it is springtime. You are alone on your own path. But then you will meet the Dragon.

The Wood element this year is a symbol of new growth and budding opportunities. Initial growth may be unseen, so patience is required while things germinate. And the incredible energy burst of any wood year will slow and die back with the coming winter. So do as much as you can in the spring and summer months.

That 2023 Black Water Rabbit washed away the remnants and ruins, and wiped the slate clean.

The 2024 Green Wood Dragon is the dragon god known as the Azure Dragon, the dragon from the east that rules the spring time, a season of vitality and growth.

You are still in the woods. We are not going back to the barnyard until 2028! Rabbit loved freedom and social gratification. But the social melee is over. The Dragon is mythical, magical, and demanding of reverence. But you never encounter more than one Dragon at a time. While the occasional festival or feast is pleasing to Dragon, Dragon is a solitary being. This is a year where all your hopes and dreams will be yours alone. It is a year of personal growth and individual quests. But this is not a year for meditation or inaction – The Azure Dragon is not a sleeper. It is a young and thirsty dragon, breaking out of its shell, pushing upward to the surface, climbing towards light, unfolding, expanding, branching out. And it is not some frail and tender little shoot – this is a dragon! This sprout is Jack’s magic beanstalk climbing to the castle in the clouds.

There is tranquility in a Dragon year because Dragon doesn’t like noisy bickering, shouting or fighting. And who is there to fight anyway, when you are alone, with the Dragon? You don’t win when you fight a Dragon, not even if you are one. Because this year is so individualized, extra care and attention should be given to your own physical and mental health. Adopt an exercise routine, an improved diet, find a therapist, find a masseuse, go to the dentist, get your eyes checked, manage your stress, get plenty of sleep and drink more water. Wear more comfortable shoes. Use sunscreen. Use lip balm. Wear a hat. Don’t suffer with the aches and pains – seek treatment, seek healing.

Remember that above and throughout it all, 2024 will be the Year of the Wooden Green Dragon, a magical year of change in fortune, of new growth. But it is all at a very personal level. Your friends are still your friends, and they are still there for you, but your achievements will be largely due to your own efforts. Any assistance you receive from others is going to be professional services you pay for, or advice or encouragement from friends and interest (therapy) groups. Nobody is going to put time or money into plans that do not at least equally benefit them. Networking for business is going to be very competitive and overshadow all social interactions this year because everyone has an agenda, and Dragon is baking a giant, luscious pie that everyone wants a slice of. Needless to say, your personal journey is going to be yours alone.

Rat (1948, 1960, 1972, 1984, 1996, 2008, 2020): You are equally at home in the jungle as you are in the barnyard, and you prefer to move under cover of darkness. This year we are all still in the woods, but it is not the jungle. It is the enchanted forest. You are crafty and sly and you move easily through the labyrinth of your own design. But Dragon is everywhere. Underground, above ground, in the sky and in the water. This is to say that you will not be able to evade yourself. Dragon wants you to live out your own biggest dream, which, because Rat has a natural streak of self-interest, works out well this year. Rat is also astute enough to take Dragon’s wise advice. The only impediment to Rat’s success is Rat’s own tendency to be slightly lazy when comfortable. Don’t slow your pace or dawdle because the enchanted forest is a nice, safe place to be. Keep moving forward. The Azure Dragon gives a real boost to your energy levels and there is a luck star this year with your name on it that suggests, beyond the steady cash flow from your own efforts, you may even receive a surprise windfall or two this year. Of your zodiac triad of friendship with Dragon and Monkey, Rat is the most likely to reap financial rewards this year, owing to Rat’s superior sense of timing and non-confrontational approach. There are no obstacles to bar your way other than yourself. The Azure Dragon brings change and growth, so focus your energy on the changes and growth that benefit you, before others. It is easy to avoid criticism (particularly from your frenemy, Horse) this year because everyone is focused on themselves, but remain tactful in your communications to avoid misunderstandings. Also, since you can’t escape yourself this year, be sure to leverage the Azure Dragon’s extra energy to improve your own physical and mental health. Include critical self-care in your new frenzy of activity. Ox (1949, 1961,1973, 1985, 1997, 2009, 2021): The Azure Dragon brings spring and new growth. And while Ox isn’t much into magic, the magic of springtime is the exception. Ox doesn’t much care for Dragons either, but the Azure Dragon is young and brings the Ox extra vigor and stamina. This is a year of optimism and enthusiasm that Ox should partake of. Don’t focus on the negative. Change is coming this year and Ox needs to be open to change, and flexible about growth. Ox has a good work ethic and does not overthink things so Ox should be able to plow through personal obstacles and follow their true path this year. Because this is a highly personalized year, Ox needs to be very attentive to their own physical and mental healthcare. Don’t ignore the pain – see your doctors, and remind your secret zodiac pal, Rat, to do the same. Your zodiac triad friends, Snake and Rooster are there for you. Snake is a font of creative ideas and the most likely of your zodiac triad to financially benefit from the changes this year. So, let Snake inspire you to set some exciting goals. Tiger should pick and choose their social engagements to suit themselves. And Tiger should decline to become embroiled in the personal problems of others. Black Water Rabbit has cleared away the mess made by the Black Water Tiger, and the Azure Dragon is here to guide you forward on your personal journey. Black Water Tiger and Black Water Rabbit both favored freedom, albeit in the form of carnage and purging. But the Azure Dragon is bringing you freedom of mind and spirit. Obstacles are minimal this year and personal achievements come easily and in considerable number. Tiger needs to take time to relax and savor the bounty. No clawing, no mauling, no roaring are necessary because you are alone on this path so any sort of lashing out has no effect on anyone but you. Because the Tiger is noble and never nefarious, you will not be delayed by any self- deception. Dogs (in your friendship triad) ever your loyal supporters and optimistic about everything you design, will offer you no criticism of any plan you envision. Horses, also in your friendship triad, share your love of freedom and will likewise heartily concur with your plans, whatever they may be. Pigs (Tiger’s secret friend) have the Midas touch this year so you will benefit financially from any contact you have with them. Monkey (Tiger’s zodiac frenemy) is easily avoided because they are running around in the enchanted forest playing hide and seek with themselves.

Rabbit (1939, 1951, 1963, 1975, 1987, 1999, 2011): 2023 was your 12th year review and reset year. The Black Water Rabbit washed the slate clean. The next phase of your life begins auspiciously with the springtime magic of the Azure Dragon. Change is coming, so you must be open to change and you must be ready to take to the road. Azure Dragon wants you to take a big leap forward. Rabbits are social and pretty and loving, but the Dragon wants you to set your sights high and leave everyone else in your dust. No hippity hopping along for you. You have speed and the Dragon is going to give you extra stamina. No lollygagging – you are a social creature but this year your socializing will be networking and consulting with professionals. Dog (your secret friend in the zodiac) is loyal to a fault and can detoured from their own quest to help you on yours. Your triad zodiac friend, Pig, is working magic of their own this year and slopping success all over anyone who comes near them – stick tight. Your friend, Goat, is incredibly social, like Rabbit, and really missing the limelight. So perhaps Goat and Rabbit will lean on each other for reassurance, mutual affirmation and good company this year. Your zodiac frenemy the Rooster is to be avoided, but that shouldn’t be difficult since everyone going their own road this year. You are shriven of all your impediments and anything that might have been holding you back. You are a good problem solver and this year the problems you solve are your own. Don’t allow yourself to be distracted or dissuaded from your own goals and aspirations. Opportunities abound and the Azure Dragon is here to turbo charge your drive and mental acuity. This is a banner year for Monkey. Of all the zodiac signs, Monkey stands to benefit most from the Azure Dragon’s oppotunities. There is a lot of energy and growth this year, and a lot of competition and drive. Monkey has the advantage of being swift, strong and highly intelligent. And, friend or foe notwithstanding, Monkey looks out for Monkey’s own interests, always. Everyone’s laundry has now been washed, folded and put away. Bygones are bygones and it is time to move forward. As a domesticated animal, and a conservative, Rooster would seem to have little use for dragons, or magic. But recall, Rooster’s Pheonix routine of immolation and reincarnating themselves is actually pretty mythic. And like any beast, the springtime and new growth the Azure Dragon brings elicits an innate response. Rebirth is something the Pheonix is a master of. So, the Rooster will heed the Azure Dragon’s call and conceptualized some really tremendous and outsized plans. The Azure Dragon is going to put the Rooster’s gumption and cockiness on steroids this year. Rooster needs to work hard and be patient to achieve these big goals, and must remain very fiscally conservative. Home life is going to suffer a bit if Rooster can’t check that know-it-all, authoritarian attitude at the door. Love is not in the cards this year, just money (oh gee, darn!). Friends, enemies, something in between – the distinctions don’t really matter this year because your goals are your own and your success rests solely with you.

Dog (1946, 1958, 1970, 1982, 1994, 2006, 2017): If you heeded the Black Water Rabbit’s call to renew your commitment to action and self-determination in 2023, then you are ready to trot along beside the Azure Dragon on your own quest for personal fulfillment. You are ready to be your own master. You have carried the day for everyone else’s cause. Now put away your hero cape, the crown of laurels, and be ready to serve yourself. The Azure Dragon is good to Dog, and everyone generally. And because Dog is honest, you suffer no illusions about your own abilities and won’t get delayed lying to yourself. But don’t be too hard on yourself either! It’s spring time and there is much cause for optimism. You are off leash in a gosh darn enchanted forest so don’t you even think about being glum or grumpy! Don’t rain on the Dragon’s parade by fixating on the short comings of others or by being pessimistic. There will be many changes and the path has some zigs and zags in store for all, but no harm will come to Dog. Your entire triad, Tiger Horse Dog, is going to have a rather indifferent year in terms of health and wealth. So, the changes and growth will really be in perspective and priorities. Do prioritize selfcare, your own mental and physical health. Prioritize your home and loved ones, and generally the people and things that bring you the most comfort and joy. But do not be self-sacrificing and do not be detoured from your own quest by the noble impulse to rescue everyone else. Any windfall your receive this year will be purely luck, not a reward for service to others. In business (and this year it is all business) everyone is looking to leverage extra resources. Beware the sob stories, damsels in distress or outright romance scams. Don’t write any personal guarantees. Do read the fine print and know what you are signing. Be frugal and use your resources to polish your skills, your education and your good health and looks. You don’t need to make a million dollars this year, but you need to look like a million dollars by the beginning of next year when the Green Wood Snake arrives and we all have to shed our skins and appear shiny and new. Next year will also be a Wood element year, so use this year to position and prepare yourself to really reap next year’s bounty.

Pig (1947, 1959, 1971, 1983, 1995, 2007, 2019): The momentum in the Tiger year was heady. The Black Water Rabbit gave you a blank slate and asked you to step up and orchestrate a better society. Everyone should be very grateful for your efforts. But society will have to take a back seat and stop demanding so much of you this year. You have an appointment with the Azure Dragon to rebuild your own life and pursue your own dreams. That magic beanstalk is about to rocket skyward with you on it. You are King Midas with the golden touch. This year overflows with opportunity, so be selective. And be patient! Don’t bother with the fast cash or anything too good to be true. Hold out for the real deal. You are a powerhouse even on a bad day. This year the Azure Dragon gives you extra strength and stamina. Be careful not to let all that extra activity and heightened senses wear you down. Take the time to sure up your health, both mental and physical so that you can take full advantage of the Dragon’s extra boost. This is a year to consult with specialists and get extra tests done for whatever ailments afflict you, even minor aches and pains. Prioritize yourself. Pig’s physical health is also greatly affected by Pig’s mental state, so prioritize your own happiness and peace of mind.

2023 The Moon Shadow

2023 This is the year of the Black, Water rabbit.

This year is a lush green meadow. It is not cultivated, yet. The rabbit is a beautiful, sensual creature, sensitive, alert and social. The Rabbit is fast yet can remain patiently still. Those long ears are open and hear everything.

The Water of 2023 is gentle, and soothing: a soft pitter-patter of raindrops on the leaves, the smell of wet rocks, the glittering dew drops caught in the spider’s web, a gurgling steam in the woods. It is a cleansing element that in the year of the Rabbit is refreshing, rejuvenating and baptismal. The Water Rabbit brings peace, and the promise of happiness, but that may involve confession and penance. The Water gently washes away the silt and the mud and reveals the truth. Time to dig up and deal with the skeletons we have been hiding. The Tiger dealt very brutally with the traitors and transgressors. The Rabbit is going to expose and humiliate the liars and the cheaters.

Tiger shredded the rule book and in the wake of that carnage, Rabbit enters right on cue, not to impose any kind of control, but to wash away the remnants and ruins and, offering a clean slate and inviting creative solutions.

I have only just learned on an interesting astrological facet called the Black Moon. It is NOT a celestial body or constellation, but an orbital position of Earth’s moon in the most remote end of its ellipse (it is also known as the Lilith). The significance of the position of the Black Moon at your time of birth is that it indicates your worst impulses, the negative drag focused in one of the 12 western zodiac signs. In everyday life, the position of the Black Moon indicates a general trend of bad behavior depending on which zodiac constellation’s house the Black Moon enters. In 2023 the Black Moon will be entering the House of Leo and staying there for 9 months! This is a rare occurrence that signifies trial and judgement and, in the house of Leo, forecasts the be-heading of those who have assumed the mantle of absolute power. The King must die! So, despots beware.

The water element of 2023 implies that sleep and dreams will be particularly essential to everyone’s health this year. You will not need the physical stamina that last year demanded, but you will need greater mental acuity. So, get your shuteye!

You are not out of the woods yet! Rabbit is NOT a domesticated animal. We are not going back to the barnyard until 2028! The Rabbit, and particularly the water Rabbit brings a harmony and balance to all social interactions. Similar to last year, in 2023 your zodiac frenemies will still not be as problematic as usual. And this year your zodiac friends are there for you. Tiger is solitary; Rabbit is social. Tiger is non-conformist while Rabbit, to put it nicely, takes creative liberties. So, freedom is still the order of the day! But this year you are not alone, so everything you do is going to be observed. Secrets will not stay secret. Remember, Rabbit has big ears, and that Black Moon is making everyone very judgmental about what they hear. Those seated on the highest thrones (or high horses) will be the biggest targets. It is a social melee this year, and everyone should be mindful of exactly who they are opening their homes to, and into whose arms they are leaping. And check your coattails frequently to see who is trying to ride along on your success.

Don’t work harder, work smarter! While there is still no recognition for your hard work, there is reward. Rabbit is creative and fertile. The water this year is the Nile flooding and fertilizing the farmlands. Rabbit brings peace and fecundity. The anxieties and doubts of last year were swept away in the flood. The Tiger was purgative, and the Rabbit is baptismal. It is time to renew faith and shed our fears. The Black Water Rabbit wants to live and love free. There is a better way, and the door is open. While this year is physically safer than last year, mental health will be the main concern.

There is peace in a Rabbit year, and lots of possibility. Energy is not as high or fierce as last year, so it is not as dangerous. Of course, this is Rabbit’s twelve year reset so, hopefully, Tiger helped jettison the dead weight last year and Rabbit is ready to plot the course for the next phase of their journey. Signs that benefit from the Rabbit’s creativity are Dog, Pig and Goat. Dog is Rabbit’s secret friend and Rabbit owes Dog a debt of gratitude for Dog’s loyal protection last year. Pig is in Rabbit’s friendship triad and has a chance to really shine this year. Goat is in love Rabbit and everything that Rabbit brings. Rat will have to tread carefully this year since there is very little cover for its nefarious activity. Ox cannot profit from the creative license of Rabbit without direction and advice from friends. Tiger would like to rest and bask in the shade, but Rabbit demands Tiger be more social to achieve Tiger’s goals. Dragon likes the peace and quiet of a Rabbit year, and of course, the renewed spirituality. Horse loves freedom, and while prosperity and happiness are abundantly available to Horse this year, Horse can get sidetracked into rolling in the judgmental disdain of the Black Moon. Monkeys like the Rabbit’s creativity and active social scene but can wear out their welcome if they succumb to the Black Moon and use their razor wit to mock and malign others. Snake is beautiful and creative, and the year has a lot of potential for advancement. Rooster, also very beautiful and social, has potential for enjoyment and profit, but again, the Black Moon will tempt Rooster to shrill and zealous persecution of those they judge harshly. Goat is very lucky this year, in love and money, and the lucky is spread to all who consort with them.

Remember that above and throughout it all, the Water Rabbit is here to shrive you – everyone is going to end up stark naked and squeaky clean! Rabbit wants you to let go of the past, free yourself from the things that have held you back, be reborn. Rabbit also wants you to reconnect yourself with society and humanity in general. Water Rabbit is at odds with the Black Moon because Rabbit wants you to be kinder to everyone. Do not let the mayhem of last year keep you bitter or alone. Do not hold yourself aloof. Do not scorn the company of others. Stay open eared and open minded. 2024 will be the Year of the Wooden Green Dragon, a magical year of change and growth for all. The Water Rabbit is going to prepare us all for the Dragon’s arrival.

Rat (1948, 1960, 1972, 1984, 1996, 2008, 2020): You are equally at home in the jungle as you are in the barnyard, and you prefer to move under cover of darkness. Stay true to your nature and avoid confrontations – Rabbit wants peace and love. Rabbit is going to make your home life (something you never prioritize) effortlessly blissful - You’re welcome! You don’t need mayhem and destruction to achieve comfort and contentment. Peace and tranquility suit you just as well as the free for all. Health, wealth, and career are all stable this year and it is merely a matter of being your careful, calculating self and staying confident. You are crafty and sly, and you move easily through the labyrinth of your own design. The main issue is going to be that Rabbit moves around underground too, and it will be difficult to remain unobserved this year. Everyone who was busy hiding from the marauding Tiger last year is now out and about, and all up in your business. There is just no way to keep your secrets secret, so at least keep them clean. Boost your social standing and your image though acts of charity and kindness. Your zodiac frenemy, the Horse, is back, and it is a mighty high horse, looking down its long nose at you – don’t let this distract you or make you second guess yourself! Even though this is a social year where society needs to rebuild, Rabbit calls for creativity and problem solving that are often beyond Ox’s abilities. Cooperative efforts are required, but it is not a straightforward, pull-as-a-team year. You will need to listen carefully to others to get ideas, instructions and directions. Have the patience of Rabbit to wait until the path is charted and resources are in place. Depending on how badly the Tiger ignited your temper last year (how many plates you smashed), take time to tidy up your home and personal relationships. Rabbit has energy, but it is sensual, tactile energy – romance and physical indulgence could help sooth some of the wounds inflicted last year. And, since you are naturally conservative, your good clean fun will not bring you any censor. The renewal Rabbit has in store for you this year is in your career or daily activities. Your friends are real, and they want to help you, so let them! The slate is clean, and you can have everything your way. Ignore the criticisms inspired by the Black Moon. Beware the jealousy your beauty and sensuality will inspire. Dog (your secret friend in the zodiac) can calm your anxieties and will zealously defend your good name. 2022 The Year of the Black Water Tiger

Welcome back to the jungle!

The Tiger is big, bold, explosive with energy, and really fast. Everything will be extreme and on a grand scale. This is a year of social upheaval, rebellion and possibly Armageddon. The Tiger is swift and strong and cannot be caged. Danger and obstacles do not intimidate Tiger, so the dangers and obstacles that must be overcome will be great. Finally, the Tiger is an ancient totem associated with the banishing of evil. Even as there will be treason and rebellion, there will be judgement and punishment.

The Water of 2022 is moving, rather than still: a swift and strong river, a waterfall, a turbulent ocean, storm waters, hurricanes, floods. It is a cleansing element that in the year of the Tiger becomes purgative. Wrong doers will be routed out, and potentially thrown to an angry mob, or summarily executed. The Water also adds a purity and a release to the Tiger year. There will be some equilibrium and temperance that are usually lacking in a Tiger year. The water elements of 2022 and 2023 (the Black Water Rabbit) imply that sleep and dreams will be particularly essential to everyone’s health for the next two years. So, get your shuteye!

The Tiger is a nonconformist, and the Tiger is throwing the rules out the window in 2022, so don’t place to much dependence on the rule of law, or civility, or even common sense. Postpone any official legal actions or proceedings – in a Tiger year the protections of the law are less assured, and established protocols are disregarded. And since the Tiger has a temper, beware the unruly mob that is very likely to be forming – don’t become its target and don’t be drawn into joining it. This is the jungle. The Tiger is a solitary hunter, so there are no positive or productive concerted efforts this year. Everyone will have to be self-reliant and fend for themselves. Unless you are in the Tiger’s zodiac friendship triad, your usual zodiac friends are not going to be as reliable this year. However, with the element of Water comes an equilibrium that means in 2022 your zodiac frenemies will not be as problematic either. The Water this year may be the proverbial “water under the bridge” and could lead to a détente or even rapprochement with former adversaries. It could also knock out the bridge pilings, so double check your intended routes (methodical or physical) before you get too far down the road; some key bridges will inevitably be missing!

There are no guarantees in a Tiger year, but there are lots of surprises and possibilities. And, unlike the past year, Year of the Ox, hard work does not bring reward or recognition. You have to be alert, brave and quick to profit from the volatility of the Tiger year. Sentimental soul-searching and spiritual introspection are so yesterday. Hopefully you used the Silver Ox’s mirror to make peace with yourself last year, because this year you have no one but yourself to rely on. This year is a bit of a free for all, and you need to be your own best friend. It’s a jungle out there!

There is no peace in a Tiger year, and prosperity is elusive. There is a lot of energy, however, and opportunity in the volatility. Signs that benefit from the Tiger’s energy are Rat, Tiger, Dragon, Horse, Monkey and Dog. They are already built for speed and Tiger is going to turbo charge their engines. It is also going to give them the impulsiveness they need to shake off any petrifying anxiety and move past any initial failures. Rat will achieve success by stealth and will be unusually happy at home. Tiger is going through the 12th year re-set, making and un-making entire empires. Dragon will enjoy watching the games from a premium skybox seat. Horse is Pegasus this year, flying high and far. Monkey will be playing chess, to the death, with the traitors and false friends. Dog is Wonder Dog this year, invincible and basking in glory. For the other 6 signs, Ox, Rabbit, Snake, Goat, Rooster, Pig, they will have to stay focused and persevere as they navigate the uncertain and perilous paths of the jungle. Ox needs to just stay home. Rabbit needs to retreat to sanctuary. Snake needs to watch and wait and meditate. Goat needs to reign in the partying and the spending. Rooster needs some anger management training and a couple of restraining orders. Pig needs a really expensive vacation someplace exclusive.

Remember that above and throughout it all, the Water Tiger wants you to be the King of Beasts, your most noble, altruistic, brave, strong and disciplined self. To succeed in this jungle, you will have to be all of these things, every day, no matter what may befall you. So put down the mirror (gently!); it’s time to go back to the jungle.

Rat (1948, 1960, 1972, 1984, 1996, 2008, 2020): You are equally at home in the jungle as you are in the barnyard, and you prefer to move under cover of darkness. Stay true to your nature and avoid confrontations. Don’t let the impulsiveness of the Tiger make you forgo thinking things through in your own sharply analytical way. Remember, you like rules because Rat easily finds ways around the rules. But the Tiger threw the rules out the window, so you have to reckon with the mayhem of nobody following the rules this year. But mayhem can also benefit the furtive and crafty Rat; orderly barnyard or wild jungle, it’s all one big hunting ground for you! Tiger years bring you little joy or fortune but, since change comes quickly this year, it will be a roller-coaster and you will just have to ride it out. Gather what you can and stash it away for later. Paradoxically, the Tiger cares as little about home life as Rat does, but Rat’s home life this year will be better than usual thanks to the chaos of the world outside it. Be like the Ox (Rat’s secret fiend in the zodiac) and shelter in place. Your zodiac frenemy, the Horse, is flying far away, so you won’t be bothered with any high-horse distain in 2022; grab those stinky eggs, Templeton, while Horsey isn’t there to look down its nose at you. However, you need to stay in stealth mode because the Tiger has fired up the angry mob and they are looking for transgressors (rightly or falsely accused) to tear to pieces. Your zodiac triad friends, Dragon and Monkey are busy, but can still take time to give you advice if you ask for it. Dragon can offer you wise and spiritual counsel, and Monkey can solve the most impossible puzzles. And happily, being neither naïve nor noble, you are able to seek and take advice without handing over your shirt (or feeling in any way indebted) in exchange.

Ox (1949, 1961,1973, 1985, 1997, 2009, 2021): Last year was your year, your reset year. Now it is time to move forward with the decisions and plans you made last year and begin your journey for the next 12 years. You need to ignore the crazed, impulsive mob of rebels howling through the woods. Be your reliable and strong self. Tiger years are not to your liking. Oxen are good at joining forces to make greater progress, but Tigers are solitary hunters. There is no team this year – you are stuck pulling that plough solo, but so is everyone else. And you are stronger than most, so you can actually get the job done without help. Just don’t be tricked or wheedled into wearing somebody else’s yoke! The water this year is like the Nile flooding the fields. Everything will be fertile ground next year so be patient and stick to the plans you have made. You are conservative – stay that way. Don’t yield to the impulsivity of the tiger to disregard your time-honored traditions and civilized customs. Goat, your zodiac frenemy, is all over the social scene, so you really want no part of it. Stay at home. You like it there; you are comfortable there. Be careful not to let the Tiger’s temper spoil your sanctuary. Ox can do a lot of Bull-in-the-China-Shop damage when impassioned. Remember the plates you are breaking are your own. Every king has a castle, so look to the fortifications of yours. Be Ferdinand: sit in the shade of the cork tree and just smell the flowers! Your zodiac triad friends, Snake and Rooster are no help this year. Snakes will be seldom seen or heard until the end of 2022 and Rooster is having an epic tantrum.

Tiger (1938,1950,1962, 1974, 1986, 1998, 2010, 2022): This is a hunting year when you can roam freely. Get out there and hunt because opportunities abound, and fortune favors the swift (you). Water is not a problem for you because Tigers are very good swimmers. The world does not generally appreciate your snarls, the flashing of your fangs or the extension of your claws – Too bad, World! This is your year; this is your jungle. You own it and there is some mauling to be done, just keep it judicious. You must truly be the King of the Jungle this year, your very best and truest self, a noble, just and powerful leader, a fierce and courageous fighter. You need to flex your muscles and raise your voice and tell the rabble-rousers to shut up! You need to quell the unruly mob before it gets out of hand and does serious damage. You are also judge, jury and executioner this year. You have claws and fangs, and you will have to use them, swiftly and forcefully, on the instigators, the traitors, the rebels, and the evildoers. Your actions (and this is a year for action) will be extra impactful this year and can make a big difference in the lives of many. Because it is your 12-year reset, you get to make decisions and changes and plans that re-shape your next 12 years. And because you are a Tiger, these plans can be sweeping, monumental and grandiose – the sky is the limit so go big! The Tiger year is a year of total freedom, like a wild and vast ocean. And the Tiger threw all the rules out the window, so mayhem is the general condition this year. It is not for the faint of heart. Dogs (in your friendship triad) are your loyal supporters, and your leadership makes Dog much more effective, so the doggies will serve you very well. Horses (also in your friendship triad) share your love of freedom and are kicking up their heels to enjoy this year. They will make excellent companions and guides. Pigs (Tiger’s secret friend) can provide a welcome dose of over-riding optimism because they don’t just see silver linings in the storm clouds of the Tiger year, they see gold linings! Dragons, also non-conformists, will be quite sympathetic to Tiger and will provide enlightening conversation and wise insight – they have premium skybox seating, so their perspective is very big picture. Monkey (Tiger’s zodiac frenemy) is interested in facilitating the retribution this year doles out, so Monkey’s criticisms of Tiger will be much more muted (also factoring in that Monkeys will not be banded together this year in troops that amplify their annoying chatter... unless it happens to be an angry mob). Rats, the only other sign having a good year, will be staying mostly out of sight. Ox will be staying home. Rabbit will be checked into a spa, a sanitorium, or a cheap motel. Snake is lurking about and will show up to the party fashionably late with a new look. Goat is cutting a rug and doesn’t know when to go home. Rooster just looks mighty tasty.

Rabbit (1939, 1951, 1963, 1975, 1987, 1999, 2011): Next year, 2023, is your year. Finish your business in 2022 and wrap up the loose ends. 2023 is your 12th year review and reset year, so conserve your energy and get some rest. There will be no recognition for any heroics you perform, so don’t go out on a limb for others. Attend to your own needs, physical and emotional. Don’t feel guilty for needing time and space for yourself. Go on a spiritual retreat, or take a sabbatical, or see a therapist. Hydrotherapy is recommended in this water year and next. So, check yourself into a spa, go to the beach, or draw yourself a bubble bath and recuperate. Next year will be your year to make changes. Next year is also a water year, so those changes will tend towards purgative – start packing some things up, settle some business, and get ready to say some good-byes. You have a very strong libido, and the excessive energy of the Tiger makes you susceptible to being seduced, especially in a year where rules are being largely disregarded. Conflicts at home, because domestic life does not interest Tiger, will only add to the risks of being drawn into extramarital affairs (plural!). Resist! Remember that putting yourself in those kinds of situations is not taking care of yourself. Dog is your secret friend in the zodiac and Dog is Wonder Dog this year – you can trust them to rescue and protect you. Your triad zodiac friend, Pig, is upbeat and optimistic this year and destined for a really nice, relaxing vacation; it would benefit you to tag along. Conversely, you should not party with Goat, who is likely to overdo it and tempt you with exactly the elicit situations (waking up in a cheap motel) you should be avoiding. Stay clear of your zodiac frenemy the Rooster, who is having an atomic tantrum which could easily turn violent.

Dragon (1940, 1952, 1964, 1976, 1988, 2000, 2012): Dragon looks forward to the Tiger years. Rules were not made for Dragons anyway, so the Tiger throwing them out the window merely entertains Dragon, who was a non-conformist to begin with. There is energy, jazz and pizzazz in a Tiger year that the Dragon can really dance to. Dragon likes dancing, and music and celebration. The hyper-activity and passionate intensity of 2022 don’t over-whelm Dragon. Rising flood waters don’t give Dragons the slightest qualm. Dragon likes the cleansing aspects of the Water element, even if the cleansing ends up being on a somewhat biblical scale in the Tiger year. And, with 2023 being a water year as well, whatever mess gets made in the 2022 deluge will be completely rinsed away by the end of 2023. The only possible discomfort is that the Tiger has a temper, and other people’s temper-tantrums do not amuse Dragon. Don’t yell at Dragons, ever! Happily, Dragon’s zodiac frenemy, Dog, is actually on best behavior this year so Dragon will not be bothered by Dog’s barking. Dragon’s secret zodiac pal, Rooster, however, is really unhappy this year and needs Dragon’s advice to calm down. The Dragon’s triad friends, Rat and Monkey, are not available to party this year. Rat is underground and Monkey is busy assassinating enemies. In the end, Dragon is stronger than the Tiger, so 2022 will be full of celebration and opportunity for Dragon to do whatever Dragon pleases. Dragons are wise and know how to store up treasure so they should be able to make it through the Tiger year with their wealth largely in-tact. The Tiger doesn’t prioritize home life, but that is okay since every Dragon has a magnificent lair, and they are easily able to defend it.

Snake (1941, 1953, 1965, 1977, 1989, 2001, 2013): meditation and introspection, time alone with your art, use these techniques to insulate yourself from the mayhem and the mob. Like the Tiger, you are a solitary hunter, and you are very self-sufficient. You are not domesticated or a pack animal, so teamwork wasn’t your forte anyway. And the rebellious mob will not find you in their number. This is the jungle; this is your true home. Spontaneity and surprises are not detrimental to Snake and can inspire your creativity and nurture your spirit. Be true to your nature. Camouflage yourself in the trees above the other beasts where you can move about freely and unobserved. Remain calm and watchful, basking in the sun by day, looking harmlessly beautiful, and hunting silently by night, under cover of darkness. Conserve your energy and your resources. You can take this year to gain perspective and understanding that will serve you in the next few years. Your triad friends, Ox and Rooster are to be avoided this year. Although their talents complement yours, they are domesticated and should not be wandering around the jungle at night. Ox will be staying home. And Rooster is going to be a hot mess. Your secret friend, Monkey, is playing a dangerous game of chess you might care to observe, and you could lend Monkey a little of your venom when Monkey is ready to bump off Monkey’s opponents. Your frenemy the Pig is vacationing in a distant, secluded spot so you won’t run into them this year. In the second half of 2022 you will be ready to metaphorically shed your skin and re-emerge into the world, healthier and happier. 2023 will be a full swing party, but the end of 2022 you can expect to do some good pre-gaming.

Horse (1942, 1954, 1966, 1978, 1990, 2002, 2014): Freedom! You and the Tiger love freedom above all else. Tiger is in your triad of friendship. This year the Tiger gives you wings. You are Pegasus. You don’t have to trot or even gallop off to greener pastures – you can fly! Luck is sudden and so are travel opportunities. You will really live it up this year. Your secret zodiac friend the Goat is really tying one on and doesn’t want you to leave the party early. You will shake off the Ox year like a good roll in the dust and be completely free of the obstacles you faced in 2021. And the Tiger lends you strength and stamina to face all the new obstacles of 2022. Remember that the other sign in your friendship triad is Dog, aka Wonder Dog this year, and they will be more useful this year than ever. Goat (1943, 1955, 1967, 1979, 1991, 2003, 2015): You are a social creature so jazz and pizzazz are fun for you. Just be careful not to deplete your health or your bank account having too much fun. The jungle is a dangerous place and goat must remain self-sufficient and a tad bit aloof. Next year is going to be just as much fun but a whole lot safer and healthier for you, so conserve your energy and your cash for next year’s bash. As with rabbit, the excess energy of the Tiger can make you extremely amorous. And if the Tiger’s short temper has made a war zone of your home life, you may be seduced outside your established relationship. You are always in love with Love, so Tiger’s impulsivity and energy is going to make you a bit of a horny goat on the social scene, and more likely to indulge in risky behavior. You also crave adoration, and the Tiger just doesn’t adore anything. So, you will be famished for the admiration of others that just is not forthcoming, making you ready to go to desperate extremes to get attention. The rules went out the window, but the Water Tiger brings purgative consequences to the transgressors. You must be discreet, or risk getting tarred and feathered and run out of town. You will have to be self-sufficient, independent and resourceful. Build on your current foundations and do not undertake any new projects without research and conservative analysis. That Phoenix trick of crashing, burning and then rebuilding yourself is really handy; the downside is if the crashing and burning is atomic (and the Tiger energy can be atomic), the collateral damage can be heavy. 2021 The Year of the Silver Ox

The Metal Ox – Look in the Mirror

This is the year of the white metal Ox, sometimes known as the golden ox, but better named The Silver Ox. This is going to be a year when we will fully feel the weight of our responsibilities, a year when it is necessary to double our efforts to accomplish anything at all. The heavy-handed peace-maker has come to restore law and order. Nothing untoward will be tolerated in this year and rebellion will be quashed. Home is serene this year because the Ox is very patient, domesticated and sentimental. Family has a chance to reconcile and reunite. The metal of this Ox is not some old, rusty piece of heavy machinery. This is the Silver Ox, a shiny, polished metal that acts as a mirror and allows many to look candidly at themselves, clarify their desires and act decisively to make change, both personal and professional. Achievement is still utterly dependent on a full measure of back-breaking work, but the Silver Ox in more insightful and self-knowing than other Ox years. Work hard, but know what you want and what you are working towards.

I’m not a fan of the Ox in general. My very sharp teeth are not at all useful for gnawing cornerstones to perfect right angles, which is generally the proscribed activity for Ox years. And I am a metal dog, the Iron Dog, particularly inflexible, so the stubborn metal of the Silver Ox out-weights my own naturally iron will, and I can foresee wasting a lot of time barking at myself in the mirror. The words of warning: if you are stubborn this year and stand against the Ox’s very frank demands for hard work and honesty, you are going to get flattened into the mud; and if you allow your anxieties and stress to pile up, boil over or spew forth, they are just going to get reflected back at you in that mirror.

That being said, I’m sure everyone is quite eager to get off the plague ship of 2020, regardless of what the Silver Ox has in store! So plunk down the gangplank and let’s disembark without delay.

Rat (1948, 1960, 1972, 1984, 1998, 2010): This is the year for your transformation. You plotted it all out last year; now do it! Your new career is waiting. Don’t gamble – industry is the path to success. Take no chances. Avoid nuance – the Ox demands plain speech and overt action. No sneaking around underground or lurking in dark corners this year! Lucky you, Ox keeps things comfy at home so you can concentrate on your career. But Ox demands hard work and discipline and stamina. You must stay well rested in order to meet the rigorous demands of the Ox. And above all, you must deliver on your promises. This is a metal Ox and metal adds stubbornness to an already inflexible year. You should have a good year since you are starting ahead of everyone else – they are all staring stupidly into that mirror either asking themselves soul-searching questions or trying to figure out what they really want, while your plans are already made. Continue to show restraint in spending – Ox will let you earn money, through hard work but resist the urge to splurge. You will not need the money you earn this year so put it away and do not make any large purchases. This should be a very healthy year since the Ox will lend you fortitude to kick even your minor bad habits. This year there really are not a lot of other signs who can help you. Ox (1949, 1961,1973, 1985, 1997, 2009): Love and Money are always yours in this year because you can be your hard-working, strong and ardent self. No cunning or conniving required and no delicate veneers or refinements can contest your raw energy and brute strength. This year, however, bodes for a distinct change in personality and perspective. It’s a sentimental year. Home can be blissful and loving if the Ox can keep its emotional sensitivity and stubbornness in check. Look in the mirror and be mindful of what you see. This will allow you to change and be more open to this year’s opportunities, both social and professional. Your physical health should be good this year, but do remember to rest and relax. Enjoy the company of friends and family. The only health issues you are likely to have are mental. Being overly sensitive can lead to depression. Excessive of energy can lead to agitation which will manifest as physical illness. Snakes and Roosters are your best friends this year (and they aren’t hard on the eyes either). Beware the fate of Narcissus, however, and do not languish before the mirror merely admiring yourself. You are fierce, noble and strong, but those are not the questions that require answers. The Ox is industrious but not fast. Tigers are strong as the Ox and a lot faster. But before you dash out the door and start tearing things up, figure out what you really want. Stress will make you physically ill so you need to be more objective and less emotional this year. Your year, your 12 year reset, the next 12 year cycle of your life starts next year, in 2022, when we all go back to the jungle. So this year you need to tidy up all the loose ends and mentally, as well as physically, finish whatever you have been working on.

You can harness the energy of the Ox and make your hard work profitable. You also need to stop playing second-fiddle and start giving yourself the respect and credibility you deserve. You have an over-abundance of creativity this year – exactly what the Ox lacks. You can really pull rabbits out of the hat this year, so pull yourself out! Show off your talents. Stop worrying about absolute perfection and jump! Look in the mirror and see yourself as you truly are instead of as what loved ones tell you are or should be. This will lead to disagreement with your colleagues and your lovers. You are so sensual and desirable that your nearest and dearest often suffer serious pangs of jealousy and insecurity, leading them to unfairly downplay your talent and criticize your work. 2020 The Year of the Golden Rat

2020 is the year of the White Metal Rat, otherwise known as the Golden Rat. It is going to be interesting! Don’t get too bogged down in the details - it is actually going to be a good year with a lot of good fortune. And it is the first year of the next 12 year cycle so it is time to make plans and start projects. Don’t think of them as New Year’s Resolutions; dream and scheme bigger! Plan the next 12 year chapter of your life.

Gold is good - everyone likes gold. Luck abounds. But the rat, although clever and nefarious, lacks self-confidence. So the trouble this year is not a lack of opportunity, but a hesitation to take full advantage of the Golden opportunities as they present themselves. This year is still a rat race, even though it is potentially a highly profitable one. You want the gold, you have to run for it. The bigger, bolder, swifter animals have the advantage. However, the rat is a rather small animal and prone to injury. Wealth comes easily this year but health and physical hazards are real concerns. Rats carry the plague - see your doctor promptly for any symptoms. Accidents involving water are common this year - stay away from water and dangerous sports; if you are told to evacuate because of predicted flooding, get out fast! The large animals who are usually immune to physical dangers need to be very careful this year - the metal element is very sharp! Rats are stealthy and secretive. They hoard their wealth. They do not flaunt it. Relationships suffer this year because rat prefers to work and rewards those who do likewise. Rat is never lavish or generous with gifts or with loving gestures, or compliments, so personal relationships are at risk of withering away due to neglect. Rats capitalize on the excesses of others but are downright stingy with their own resources. Everyone will benefit from being a little more self-interested and selfish this year because that is how the rats succeed. Gossip may be interesting but it doesn’t distract the rat from its purpose, and there aren’t a lot of altruistic detours on the way to the finish line. However, unlike other rats, the Golden Rat is at least generous with advice and timely information. And this rat is more susceptible to flattery. The Golden Rat also secretly longs for recognition, so its plans and machinations won’t be quite so secretive, allowing others to benefit from teamwork which is always advisable in a year with a metal element. There is an undercurrent, a strong undercurrent, of jealousy this year. And precisely because the rat is so stingy in personal relationships, there is unnecessary strife at home when loved ones feel they are being neglected or that they are competing for the rat’s attention/affection. Don’t fall into the rat trap of all work and no play. Don’t fail to take advantage of opportunities by drowning in doubt. There are fine pickings to be had, but you have to go and collect them. Hesitation and lack of self confidence will make you miss the boat. Also remember, even as you are trudging along in what seems like a rat race, the pain is self-inflicted and self-serving. You are striving for goals that you have set. These are your aspirations. They require planning and effort. This is the first year in the new 12 year cycle. You did the review last year; all your looking back mournfully and your soul-searching are finished. This year you are strategizing the next phase of your life - look forward and outward. You have to set the stage, gather your resources, position yourself to begin the next chapter. Move. Switch jobs. Choose your projects. The doors are not locked; you just have to turn the handle and walk through. Next year is the year of the Ox - a mindless grind, so do your homework and your planning this year.

*Note: I added the years for each animal sign, but remember if you are born in January, you are ruled by the previous year’s animal sign because the Chinese New Year does not usually begin until February. Those born in the very end of January, it varies year to year so you will have to look up your particular year for the exact date.

Rat (1948, 1960, 1972, 1984, 1996, 2008, 2020): This is your year, for better and for worse, the year you have to face yourself in the mirror everywhere. Rats generally have a rough start in life and enjoy better luck as they get older and craftier, so your fortune this year has a lot to do with your age. Oddly enough, the older rats will be much more energetic than the younger ones, and much more productive. This has a lot to do with self-confidence which rats generally lack but can accumulate slowly over a lifetime. Not only is this the first year in the global 12 year cycle, it is also the first year in your personal 12 year cycle, so the changes and resetting of the stage can be sweeping and dramatic. If there is something, anything, you don’t want in your life anymore, this is the magical year to make it disappear, forever. No use telling you to be a little more attentive to your home and family, it just isn’t in your nature and this is your year so you are just going to be yourself. But if they must be sacrificed, at least acknowledge that to your loved ones, because recognition is something the Golden Rat craves. Career career career will be your focus this year and give you the greatest rewards. Who is more fit to win the rat race than a rat? And this is the year of the Golden Rat - Money is the anthem. Get up your gumption and go get it.

Ox (1949, 1961,1973, 1985, 1997, 2009): rat is not a problem - there are plenty of rats in the barn where ox lives contentedly. It is the element of metal in this rat year that IS a problem for Ox. Ox is strong and stubborn and metal is equally unyielding. The metal this year is that metal ring in the ox’s nose. Your stubbornness is going to bring you pain! You want to muscle forward without thought, but save that for next year. Don’t let your inflexibility keep you from looking at issues from all possible angles. This year, survey your fields, consider the many possible methods of cultivation, the diversity of cash crops. Plan for the labors of next year. Pick your goals and strategize how to achieve them. Next year you will shoulder the plough and drag it forward with mindless, brute force.

Tiger (1938,1950,1962, 1974, 1986, 1998, 2010): look at all those little furry, scurrying runners in the rat race, like a veritable torrent of yummy treats. The tiger is ready to pounce! And this year is all about pouncing on the luck and opportunities as they scurry past. You will take great pleasure in the mental stimulation of this year both in business and social networks. Your health and finances are good, your soal-searching of last year has shriven you of the past issues. That chapter of your life is done and it’s time to make plans for the next phase. You are fast and mentally agile and you never lack confidence so nothing is beyond your reach this year. Go get ‘um, Tiger!

Rabbit (1939, 1951, 1963, 1975, 1987, 1999, 2011): you are a runner, and a jumper, but you are shy, and share some of the rat’s lack of confidence. Pouncing is not in your repertoire. You have to at least get out there too see what is available and you have to overcome your fear of failure. You have big ears and rat has some very important information to give you, so at least have the conversation, listen to the proposition, consider your options. Metal years emphasize team-work which you can’t accomplish if you hide at home. You are a very sensual and sexually charged creature. You are far more social and attentive than rat so your home life should actually be better than most. But the Golden Rat inspires fits of insane jealousy so confine your attention to your partner or your happy home could go up in flames.

Dragon (1940, 1952, 1964, 1976, 1988, 2000, 2012): you love glittering gold, and there is a lot of it this year. You will be flying high this year having a good time! You never lack confidence so you can make the most of all the good opportunities. Remember the Golden Rat is unusually generous with just one thing - information. Don’t let your arrogance keep you from listening to good advice and valuable intelligence, or blind you to possible pitfalls. You are far more magnanimous than the rat, and the Golden Rat likes the opulence of your cave full of treasure, so your home will be one of the happier ones this year. You are a powerful beast, but beware the physical dangers this year, especially involving water. Plan all travels and physical projects very carefully to minimize risk of injury. Wear proper safety attire and double check all routine maintenance is up to date before operating machinery.

Snake (1941, 1953, 1965, 1977, 1989, 2001, 2013): This is the year to chart the next 12. The charting needs to be done in concert with your life partners and friends. You must avoid the rat’s tendency to short-change personal relationships. By deepening your romantic and social connections you will come to a better conclusion of what you want from life and how to get it. The jealousy of the Golden Rat strikes a cord with the snake, even though the snake is the most beautiful and seductive creature, this year the snake could end up cast as Othello. Recognize and resist this impulse. Treat your loved ones carefully - be more giving and forgiving to your partner to overcome this year’s discord. Wealth and luck are within reach. But be very conservative in accounting and tax preparation or face steep penalties. Health is an issue in the earlier part of the year and rest is called for. Remember this is not the year for putting your shoulder to the wheel anyway. That comes next year. This year is a year for planning and staging the next phase of your life. Rest up doing the mental work this year. Save the physical labor for next year.

Horse (1942, 1954, 1966, 1978, 1990, 2002, 2014): this is a good year for horse. There are some important surprises but act quickly and you will capitalize on the changes to be made. Be careful not to exhibit too much stubbornness this year. The metal element of this rat does not accommodate such posturing. Rat years are for planning, so lay all the ground work and make the necessary changes to work towards your goal (complete freedom!) next year. Your health and finances are good this year. You can go anywhere you want. The Golden Rat is greedy for flattery, not your style generally, but a little will go a long way this year and costs you nothing. Metal elements infer teamwork, not your favorite method, but for you that can translate into consulting professionals. Golden Rat is generous with information so get it from the best possible sources. Networking for business and pleasure are recommended this year.

Goat (1943, 1955, 1967, 1979, 1991, 2003, 2015) you are nimble and social, and not timid, so you are well equipped to prosper this year. The rat will give you a good work-out and when it is over, you will be in shape to face any future obstacles with ease. Plenty of gold coming in, just try not to spend it all in one place. The Golden Rat’s love of opulence could lead you to over spend. Even if you fritter money away carelessly on your own pleasure, at least draw the line and don’t make any personal loans. You may feel overwhelmed by the rat’s focus on career, but the Golden Rat craves flattery which you readily dispense. Your home is likely to be among the happier this year, and jealousy is the just pulse of your relationships - proof it’s still alive.

Monkey (1944, 1956, 1968, 1980, 1992, 2004, 2016): you have a lot in common with the rat. You are clever, quick and hoard wealth. You will have many opportunities this year, but like the rat, you must strategize. Beware the metal element that makes the results of your stubbornness and arrogance particularly painful. Be agile and diplomatic. Flattery costs you nothing and is a scarce commodity in high demand this year. Dispense it to undermine and disarm your competitors and adversaries. Just be careful your ample charm doesn’t incite violent jealousy. Don’t put all the eggs in one basket and don’t get pulled into a noble but impossible project- not your natural instinct anyway so don’t succumb now! Be like the rat, hoard your wealth, guard your stores, don’t overspend. Avoid gambling - use your considerable brains, and the information the Golden Rat generously dispenses, instead of trusting blindly to chance or even statistical odds. This is the year to stockpile against the worse years to come. You may feel like you are walking around with your own personal rain cloud overhead but remember that is doubt and self-imposed judgement. You are always in a better position than you recognize and you have plans to improve your position. Being where you are is a step towards where you wish to be. Love, Money and Health ARE good this year, so lighten up and stop reaching for that damn umbrella. It’s not raining, yet!

Rooster (1933, 1945, 1957, 1969, 1981, 1993, 2005, 2017): you never lack confidence so self doubt will not hold you back. And money is rarely a problem for roosters so the rooster will get their fair share of it this year. Just beware the Golden Rat’s lust for opulence and don’t overspend. The real problem with rat is that rat makes a mess of the happy home and home is the rooster’s top priority. So family will be a constant trial to roosters this year. Health is precarious - stay away from water and hospitals, and sick people, and extreme sports. See your doctor promptly for any minor complaint. You are more emotional than usual, due to the emotionally charged home-life, and the rat encourages outbursts of temper and jealousy. This stress in turn weakens your immune system and can make you physically ill. Remember, even the Golden Rat cannot bring down the Rooster. You are the stronger-willed, even against the unyielding metal element of this year. You are free of fear and self doubt and have far more self control. You still rule the roost, but reign in that temper, Cocky-Locky!

Dog (1946, 1958, 1970, 1982, 1994, 2006, 2018): Stay out of the water. If you think you have the plague, you probably do - see a doctor! You may require prescription medicine or even medical intervention. Take your symptoms seriously and seek professional help. Most dogs have a chance at a happy home this year. Dogs are so loyal and trustworthy that they easily avoid inspiring the jealousy of the Golden Rat. The exception are the iron dogs (born in 1970). Like the ox, you are iron-willed (aka stubborn) alpha dogs and not used to being challenged. Others bend to your wishes, but not so much this year. There is too much metal inflexibility this year and you are part of the problem. Tread lightly at home and choose your words and tone carefully. Your pedantic, dry, clinical or sarcastic enunciations are the wrong tone to use with loved ones - it’s that grating sound of metal on metal; nobody wants to hear it! And in a year of jealousy where they crave compliments and adoration, you risk driving your nearest and dearest to seek the emotional support they need.. outside your home. Career and finances are good this year, because that is where rat’s interest is. You may get promoted or receive accolades and bonuses because the Golden Rat really craves those kinds of recognition. Remember not to jump hastily on one project and worry it like a bone - this is a planning year and you need to consider a myriad of possibilities. Advice is flowing freely so listen and act prudently.

Pig (1947, 1959, 1971, 1983, 1995, 2007,2019): You could, but should not, just rest on your laurels this year. Rats love and reward hard work. Pigs love hard work too! You are going to have fun this year, ramping it up! All the while, you are on your second honeymoon with your partner. This is because while rats like opulence, they generally don’t indulge themselves or anyone else. Pigs, on the other hand, like to play as hard as they work. Pigs throw really great parties and they are indulgent to the point of over-indulgence. This year’s Golden Rat really enjoys how the pig can lavish their loved ones with gifts and compliments. Pig is one of the most intelligent signs and loves to use their brains as well as their brawn. Hint - Brains this year and brawn next year. As a stronger, bigger animal, be vigilant about safety precautions and take your health seriously. You have a tendency to give your all and neglect your rest, your diet, your spiritual needs. This year be a little gentler on yourself and be wary of physical dangers inside (sharp objects in the kitchen) and outside (driving on the highway) your home.

The Truffle-hunting Brown Earth Pig

This is the Year of the Brown Earth Pig. Everything happens on the ground this year. Get down and dirty! It’s truffle hunting season! When pigs fly? Maybe this year! Happier than a pig in shit? Possibly. Some will be wallowing in it (whatever “it” may be). Some will be up to their eyes it. Stuck in a rut? Not for long! Pig is the last sign in the zodiac, the last year of a 12 year parade, so in a way it is the year of endings, of recalculation and tallying up the score, tying up the loose ends, of planning for the new 12 year cycle, making resolutions and significant changes for everyone. Happily, the pig is both intelligent and creative, civilized and calm. So there will be a lot of very good ideas to calmly consider and rationally discuss this year. You can’t have everything you want, so don’t be a hog. This pig is not a ferocious beast. The pig is an intellectual who gets by on brains, not brawn. The pig doesn’t favor those who muscle it out; the pig wants to talk it out, and wants compromise from everybody. So even the hard nosed negotiators among us will have to settle for slightly less than we want and might otherwise have successfully fought for.

Stronger and swifter animals get a bit of a breather and time to make lifestyle and even spiritual adjustments. Smaller or slower animals get security and a chance to make extra progress, catch up and even get ahead. We all need to use our heads and take counsel, and we all need to avoid excesses. Change is coming, from within and from without.

Pig is a domesticated animal so home and family remain very important. However, unlike the Rooster’s well ordered house, pig’s enthusiasm for work and new ventures, and weakness for self-indulgence can create a lot strain on personal relationships this year. Family arguments over finances, lifestyle choices and jealousy are more common. Beware of intergenerational misunderstandings. Sorry for those of you longing for travel, the pig does not favor straying too far or too long from home.

Because we will be rubbing shoulders with everybody this year and changes can come quickly, I am including a little bit of advice on compatibility with other signs so you know which to turn to and which to avoid. Remember to keep gossip to a minimum and make an effort to stay out of other people’s business unless they turn to you for help or advice. The Pig can’t stand bad manners, bad reputations, unsolicited advice or unwarranted interference.

Rat: you are very opportunistic and what looks like pure luck can actually be the result of your supernaturally good sense of timing! Use your skills to know when to seize the moment and when to disappear into your subterranean labyrinth with your (possibly ill-gotten) gains. You will be very busy but since the pig is not fast-paced, your activity will be extremely productive and mostly stress free. Don’t gamble - you don’t need to! 2020, your year, will be your 12 year reset. So use this year to stash your cash, make career moves, and generally position for your 2020 life-shifting makeover. Stay away from the horses and roosters - they are proud to the point of haughty. Their holier-than-thou tone exacerbates disagreements you have with them to the point of grudge and bitterness. Listen to the dragons for life wisdom and monkeys for business acumen. Work hard and play hard with the pigs.

Ox: the barnyard is a safe place and the pig is not as quick moving as it is quick-witted. You have no trouble talking it out, and a little innate stubbornness serves you well and should allow you to negotiate in your own favor. But you must resist bellowing or butting heads - the pig only wants civil discourse and expects everyone to compromise. You can make good progress over level ground. You can plough, sow and reap as the season requires and enjoy the fruits of your labors. You will be comfortable because the pig shares both your enthusiasm for work and your love of the sensual pleasures. And Pig approves of a certain degree of self indulgence. Just don’t overindulge, physically or emotionally. Resist the pig weakness of wallowing in sadness or disappointment or indecision, or in anything at all.

Tiger: you are the strongest and the fiercest, and you generally do as you please. The pig admires and values your protection, and you admire the pig’s intelligence, which is second only to monkey’s but blessedly free of monkey’s incessant teasing and tricks (just stay away from the monkeys this year as their discourse always deteriorates to insult in the end) Just remember that the pig really expects you to listen this year and to compromise (not your forte). And pig needs you to come down to earth to have the necessary conversations. So be careful not to spend all your time lounging in the treetops. You may find yourself lacking inspiration, bored, or depressed, so socialize in order to develop new ideas and refresh your point of view. It is a physically safe year for Tigers so health remains good. The moderate and relatively stress-free pace of the pig allows the quicker animals to take a breather, reconsider and reprioritize this year. Pig’s focus on home and family will lead Tigers to better their communication with family members and reorganize their lair. Beware of the pig’s faults of over spending and over indulging - show fiscal restraint when making gifts or contemplating real estate purchases or home renovations. The independence and brisk trot of the horse, and the goats that are following them, is good company for you this year. And Dragons can provide you with spiritual insight and confidence.

Rabbit: hop, skip and jump! This pig is slow and not at all fierce. You can really shine this year with little fear. Since you enjoy greater security this year than last year (dog was only your secret friend - pig is openly supporting you), you are free to improve just about every aspect of your life. Change is coming so take charge and make the changes for the better. You are naturally social and passionate and since you are not seeking shelter or running for cover you have an opportunity to lead this year, and mostly by just being your charming and passionate self. Changes this year can bring you comfort and a lot of personal satisfaction. Remember that the pig demands compromise - butting heads will get you nowhere. You can and must be persuasively charming in business, and seductively charming in your romantic life (it is natural to your sign to use sex to dominate and manipulate your partner, just be careful of making them jealous this year). Pigs are inspirational and you can take their great ideas and run with them! Be careful only in that the pig’s stamina for work surpasses your physical abilities. You must remember to get enough rest and take a break when necessary. Don’t get so carried away with the great opportunities that you compromise your physical and mental health.

Dragon: the pig’s insistence on talking things out and remaining calm will give the Dragon time to reflect and re-evaluate just about everything. It will be a quieter year than the past few. Oh, you will miss the parade, the fireworks, the flying high. But take the time to settle your affairs, perfect your accounting skills, adjust your priorities and your goals, and conserve your energy for the upcoming year of the rat. You should enjoy creature comforts (pig permits this) but avoid over indulgence (pig has a hard time reigning it in) Your physical and financial health should be better this year than last, but take time to attend to details. Keep your distance from the dogs - they are loyal and self-sacrificing to a fault but their natural tendency to criticize and worry will be extremely irritating to Dragons this year, and interfere with the peace and quiet you need to sort things out. As numerous and abrupt changes catch others by surprise, you will be sought out by many for life wisdom and even spiritual advice. Save your advice for those who seek it, consciously giving priority to family (Pig has a very bad habit of neglecting family needs in favor of Pig’s own pleasure). Do not allow yourself to be drawn too deep into other people’s concerns and plans - you have your own life to sort out first this year.

Snake: you don’t naturally agree with the pig - you are an artist, an independent thinker and at home in the wild jungle. The pig is much more pragmatic and materialistic and civilized. You are a beautiful and deadly predator. Pig values your beauty, your artistic energy and creativity. But the earth pig is more mundane than the rest and wants everyone to compromise in everything. For you, compromise is very often not an option - nor should it be! No one should ask you to compromise your values, your art, your spirit. You are going to have to alternately use your fangs and your best hypnotic persuasion this year to keep the pig from coercing you into compromising core values that should never be compromised. Stay true to yourself - luck is on your side and your ingenuity is equal to pig’s. Follow where the roosters lead - they are good at attracting money and prime candidates to lead this year, and they won’t ask you to change. Ox are also good to team up with since they are conservative, hard-working and in desperate need of your creativity, and your sense of humor.

Horse: much like the Ox, you have nothing to fear from the pig. You are noble minded and capable of making compromises that are both efficient enough to suit you and sufficient enough to please pig. The pace of this year is brisk enough to keep you from getting bored but sedate enough to keep the pig from feeling jostled or hustled. You can keep making steady progress while having a good view of where you are going and not dash blindly past opportunities or interesting side paths without giving them due and timely consideration. You will make the most of this year and the compromises you make will not hurt. You like change, and change is coming, so enjoy. Relax and regroup in anticipation of the 2020 rat race. Stay away from the rats - they are very busy and not far-sighted like you so they will only resent your advice. The tigers are bored and would like to trot along with you this year for company and inspiration. Goats want to follow you on your path of progress, your road to success - let them - they are good company. Change in your inner perspective will attract you to the spirituality of Dragons this year. Monkeys have good business advice to give - don’t let your equine pride keep you from asking for their help.

Goat: Pig likes to socialize and you can really frolic this year. Listen carefully because pig has very good ideas and can really help inspire you. You are quick and can act on good information quickly and to your advantage. The dangers are less this year, but the changes are numerous, broad-sweeping and sudden. Your nimbleness will serve you well. Don’t get distracted from your goals (set goals if you don’t have any) and don’t get drawn into other people’s problems and conflicts. There is a lot going happening on the ground you may need to climb or jump over rather than wade through. Just because you love the pig’s creativity and energy, don’t fall into the trap of overspending which is one of your own greatest weaknesses anyway! Also reign in your gossiping habits because the pig is very conscious of reputation and easily offended by the bad manners of other signs. Follow the horses this year, they are on the path of progress and the road to success, and they can see farther ahead than you can.

Monkey: Hope you like gambling and are positioned to cushion your potential losses. While monkeys are the only sign in the zodiac smarter than pig, and the year of the pig gives more time and reward to the use of brains instead of brawn, pig years are heavily influenced by chance. It could be good, or really, really good, or bad, or terrible, without apparent rhyme or reason. Only one thing is certain, change is coming. This is an earth year; the action is on the ground. Sitting up in the trees, jabbering away about hypotheticals is a waste of time - the pig is too practical and the pig wants to get it done. And monkey’s teasing and tricks offend the pig (and everyone else this year). Monkey needs to get down and socialize, nicely, with the animals on the ground, and monkey needs to listen instead of just talking, in order to hear about all the excellent opportunities available this year. On a positive note, monkey is quite capable of unending compromise (monkey lacks conscience) and is smart enough to get the better side of any compromise monkey makes. So pig’s demands for compromise will not upset or negatively impact monkey. And since the pig is at best ingenious, the monkey’s intelligence lets the monkey capitalize on new opportunities that are created in pig years. Keep an eye on the rats since they fundamentally share your values and have a supernaturally good sense of timing. Monkey needs to take the slower paced year to be a little more introspective. While some of the quicker animals need to reprioritize their finances, homes or their personal relationships, monkey should give priority to their own spiritual and emotional needs - monkey has been neglecting these for several years now. Meditation, yoga, exercise, interesting study, or traveling for pleasure all nurture Monkey’s inner sense of well-being. While it is a general fault of the pig to neglect personal relationships in favor of their own pleasure, the Monkey needs to withdraw somewhat from family this year, into himself, and restore his own sense of purpose, pride and joy. Dragons can give you spiritual guidance and help you come to terms with your inner self.

Rooster: you have a lot in common with the pig. You are social, materialistic, domesticated, have an eye for beauty and an ear for wit. You are home and family oriented. But you talk more than you listen, you act and react more than you think, and you are not as clever as the pig, even though you think you are. This year is a domestic year. You are living on the ground anyway, don’t fall into the pig’s bad habit of neglecting the emotional needs of family and friends - be more aware and honest in your personal relationships this year. You are prettier than the pig, but the pig wants deeper introspection and more genuine feeling than you are known for. Pig will not accept skin deep beauty or superficiality this year. That being said, your ability to make and attract money is at least as great as the pig’s and your ability to keep your money is far superior to pig’s. You never fall into the pig’s trap of over indulgence and over spending. Change is coming this year and in general it will benefit roosters greatly. You are ready for change, hungering for it! You are ready to lead the charge and you are stronger and more charismatic than you know. But the end of this year may have a surprise in store for Roosters. The rats and the monkeys are to be avoided if possible - they will hinder your progress and disagree with you generally. Rats are self interested and lack your ambition to lead. Monkeys talk down to you and don’t value your opinions. You don’t have time for them this year and they certainly don’t want to hear what you think of them!

Dog: This is a slower-paced year, a domesticated year. You just had your 12 year re-set, so your mind is still open to change and possibilities. Pig years are excellent for reflection and re-prioritizing. There is plenty of good advice to be had. Work doesn’t scare you, but don’t just plod along in your traces this year. The rat race is next year, followed by the dreaded year of the Ox when you will have to gnaw cornerstones to perfect right angles with your teeth. The ground is level and it isn’t a race year. You must take some time to socialize (not just running and howling with the pack!), time to network, hear new ideas and strategies for how to put your brand new priorities into practice. You are your only champion this year (you are dependably loyal - remember that even your best friends are just not AS loyal as you are). As one of the stronger, swifter animals, pig expects you to not just compromise but to outright sacrifice your own benefits for the less able. You are noble-minded and loyal enough to do it - so remember to hold back enough for yourself! You are one of the animals least likely to benefit from the bargains the pig wants to impose. Don’t fall into the pig’s worst habit of over indulging or over spending, even in the context of being (overly) generous to others! Listen to the advice of the monkeys in your life. They are the only sign smarter than pig, and their lack of conscience will help counteract your tendency to sacrifice too much for others. Don’t pester the dragons this year - they are NOT in the mood!

Pig- this is your twelve year reset. Time to plan and prioritize. You demand time and tranquility to make your best choices. It is your year, but for any sign your own year in the zodiac is always a year when you face your own worst and best characteristics. Pig has business acumen, a passion for work and ingenuity. There are choices to be made, great opportunities to be had. But you have to make and take them. Don’t intellectualize to the point of inaction. Don’t over indulge either in work or in play. Don’t wallow in indecision, or sadness, or anything else at all. This is a reset year so great change is possible. THIS IS THE YEAR OF THE BROWN EARTH DOG

Rat: That 2017 parade was certainly something. You’re more than a little fatigued from the excesses of 2017 and looking for a quiet, dark corner to relax in while the pack goes marauding. A little peace and quiet would be a nice change. That’s not really the forecast however. Hopefully you did spend some time during the Rooster Year tidying up your home both emotionally and physically so it is a comfortable hide-out this year. Rats are stubbornly self-interested so the very loud calls for social change are not going to ring clarion for you or bring about any startling personal revelations. Beware, the critics are breaking out the pitchforks – your reluctance to join in could make you a target. Be very discreet in all aspects of your life and stay out of the spotlight. Keep everything you are doing or planning private. You can succeed and accomplish much if you are cautious and steer clear of the masses that are just looking for any excuse to tar and feather somebody.

Ox: You are socially conservative so you can easily shrug off the puritanical mob on a witch-hunt since they very obviously aren’t coming for you. Dogs don’t frighten you either, and certainly not the Earth Dogs. That muddy puppy does try your patience and you don’t like the incessant barking or nipping. Beware falling into the general trend this year of loudly condemning the faults and flaws of others, postpone heated conversations and above all, make important business decisions rationally rather than emotionally. Dog recognizes your strength and purpose, knows that you are a valuable asset, but can become frustrated with your immobility and dog’s own inability to motivate you. This could create obstacles for you this year. You have patience that is equal to this dog’s perseverance so nothing this year is going to harry or panic you into stampeding anywhere you don’t want to go. Either your legendary patience and stalwartness will triumph and you will overcome the obstacles, or you’ll have one of your legendary tantrums, go on a rampage, trample everything and start fresh. Like the saying “whether the pitcher hits the stone, or the stone hits the pitcher, it is going to be bad for the pitcher”, the ox is not the one who gets hurt this year.

Tiger: The year of the dog is always a good year for tigers because tiger is in the friendship triangle with Dog (and horse). To the Dog you will always be an Alpha. Dog admires your hunting prowess and leadership, really adores your moments of noblesse oblige, and is always a good and faithful partner for you. Tigers have nothing to fear from dogs because dogs are not at all deceitful. This year, everything is out in the open. Tigers are tolerant of dogs and even altruistic towards others because in dog years, tigers are less likely to feel conned or manipulated. The altruism a tiger is able to express in a dog year makes the tiger feel better about themselves, and they receive the added bonus of the love and loyalty from those they have helped. Being strong, generous and kind this year will also insulate the tiger from the criticism which is being tossed about like mud shaken off that puppy. Everything looks filthy this year – do not allow yourself to fall into depression because of all the mud. Tigers thrive on strong emotion, and they can use their considerable charm and charisma to spin all the highly charged energy in a positive direction. Be a tiger this year – stay aloof from the howling pack, make your own kill, be generous with the scraps and tolerant of the dogs. Don’t lose sleep over the mass anxieties. Pick your battle carefully – it is yours to win.

Rabbit: 2017 cannot end soon enough for you. You are private and reserved and both traits will serve you well this year. Rabbit is secretly a friend of Dog, so you will find bounty in a Dog year. Just play it cool and keep your good fortune under wraps. The overt and excessive criticism which abounds this year will not fall on the rabbits because so much of their activity is unobserved. The exception is criticism from your nearest and dearest who actually know what you’ve been up to – steel yourself for that because it could really hurt. Although the howling pack is making a lot of noise this year, remember that dogs are incredibly loyal. Good deeds will not go unnoticed or unrewarded in the Dog year. Don’t overlook the opportunity to toss someone a bone or pat them on the head, they could unexpectedly return your small kindness 10-fold.

Dragon: Is it nap-time yet? 2017 was bizarre and excessive enough to satisfy even a dragon. Those phoenixes bursting into flame and being reborn again every other minute were like a non-stop fireworks display. They kept the whole world awake at night with that party. There is no rest in a Dog year, for any of us. The rooster was all for show, but dogs mean business. The pack is running this year, and they are howling like wolves. Dog is an earthbound being and Dragon lives in the sky. Earth is simply very far beneath Dragon and to meet and respond to the demands of the Earth Dog, well, Dragon has to stoop pretty low. The obstacles presented by a Dog year are also very far beneath Dragon. Dog’s ways are also a bit too binary and conservative for Dragon. And then there is that barking. Dragons don’t like being yelled at. You are better off remaining aloof this year. There will be plenty of people trying to invade your privacy and personal space, even your home – hide your gold and keep the door bolted! This, of course, does not protect you from the inner circle of your friends and family, so be cautious and careful of the tone you use with loved ones. Tone and body language are more impactful than words in a Dog year. Everyone is going to be anxious and too ready to be disappointed by even those closest to them. Further, since grievances are being loudly aired the world over, be prepared for the unwelcome re-appearance of enemies and rivals seeking confrontation. And beware those who harbor ancient grudges against you; they may no longer be content to let sleeping dogs lie.

Snake: That was some party in 2017. Now the party is over and you are stuck cleaning it up. There is some clean up to be done. Hopefully you succumbed to the Rooster’s influence enough to clean up your own house, emotionally and physically. Now it’s time to broaden the scope and start on the yard. You have some soul searching to do and some priorities to change. Part of that process is going to involve taking a very critical look at people in your personal and professional sphere and uncoiling yourself from the ones who are holding you back or trying to move you in a direction that does not work with your goals and priorities. Everyone had a chance to look their best last year, and everyone was wearing rose-tinted glasses. This year, the glasses come off and so do the gloves. This is a fast-paced year so toss the dead-weight overboard, lose some emotional baggage, and tell the simple truth. You have charm and beauty in abundance. Use them to deflect criticism and diffuse hostility, and you could even earn promotion and a salary increase. Be discreet in your fortunes and do not display anything of value that might arouse jealousy. You don’t have a lot in common with Dogs. They are very conservative, domesticated and noisy. They demand work and altruism and cooperation, none of which come naturally to you. You’ll need to keep a very low profile and be very cautious. Lastly, you know you have a venomous bite – so please exercise self-restraint or the Earth Dog might decide to bury you.

Horse: You are in the Dog’s friendship triangle, along with tiger. Your association with dogs is always beneficial. They like your speed and endurance, and admire your intelligence and strength. They don’t share your love of travel however, so travel plans will likely fall through this year. It is a fast-paced year but the horse can keep up without too much exertion. The Earth element is not as free and limitless as the horse would like – no galloping unfettered over the distant hills. Organization and management are required in Earth years. Have all your paperwork up to date, organized and readily available. Be very discreet about your personal plans and even your intentions or you will find yourself in the spotlight, under the microscope with a lot of unwanted people passing judgment and interfering. Don’t air any dirty laundry – it is like waving a red flag at a bull this year. And there are no shortcuts this year. Success is the result of re-doubled effort. Anyone who capitalized on the momentum and energy of the Fire Rooster last year to begin projects will see their efforts begin to be rewarded this year. If you made a good start last year, re-double your efforts this year and you’ll succeed.

Goat: You are familiar to Dog, sharing space on the farm. Dogs are protective of goats. And Goat goes where Dog wants. You are also a nimble climber so obstacles in the earth Dog year can be overcome. Climb! As high as you can and as fast as you can. Whatever obstacle comes at you this year is coming head on and howling loudly so be your nimble self and leap over it. The party is over, so don’t even think of resting or taking a vacation. There is work to be done. First part of the year will be better hunting than the second, so get a head start. Hit the ground running and do not look back. Communication, generosity and loyalty work really well for the Dogs, but not for goats! Just say no. Goats must stay focused on what is right for them and curb the instinct to share resources or information too freely, otherwise, the goat will get eaten alive. Not a good year for goats to be their social, charming and elegant selves. This is a hunting year and even lovers and admirers can turn into relentless predators this year.

Monkey: You are the most intelligent of the zodiac animals. You are also fast and strong. You solve really complicated problems - Dog loves that. But you also create problems, for fun, at the expense of others - Dog hates that. Dog wants order and security, loyalty and sacrifice. You are going to have to make an effort to perform numerous small acts of altruism and respect to keep the growling Earth Dog from blocking your path this year. And watch your tone – tone is very important in the year of the Dog. Rose tinted goggles are off, so are the gloves. This is a judgement year, a year when debts are paid and scores are settled, and rewards are handed out. Monkey, of all people, may have the most cause for concern because Monkey teases compulsively and frequently without compassion. The consequence of past behavior, good or bad, will be very obvious this year. Dogs demand loyal allegiance to the pack. Dogs aren’t fooled by looks, or even words. This year requires action. Monkey will need to use every bit of his wit and charm, but additionally must force himself to perform various small acts of generosity and kindness to convince others his motives are noble and pure (they aren’t!). It is going to get complicated. There are competing demands for your loyalty and your resources. Monkey will have to keep a watchful eye on people he suspects are not truly committed to his endeavors, preserving his distance, but at the same time convincing them they have his full commitment. And this is not a year in which anyone will just let sleeping dogs lie. If you remember any grudge anyone may be holding against you, no matter how long ago in the past, watch out!

Rooster: You and Dog have much in common, both domesticated, hard-working and protective of your own. Dog will offer you protection and confidence this year, and allow you to travel further and more frequently. You can follow up with a lot of valuable connections you made at that big party you threw in 2017. It really was one hell of a party! You reinvented yourself a couple times, burst into flames repeatedly and were absolutely cock of the walk last year. And you did it all without incurring any really bad consequences. You’re coming into 2018 feeling pretty cocky. And even the dower dogs can’t get you down. You worked as hard as you partied, and you are well positioned to succeed in 2018. You still have some more self-reinventing to do, and some expanding of your horizons. Barnyard is great but this year you are going to free range a little further from home. You made some excellent connections last year that will be very advantages this year. Keep the business and personal life separate however; this is an Earth year that requires extra organization and management. And keep yourself busy so you don’t get caught in the loneliness or doubt that fill the quiet moments in Dog Years.

Dog: The past few years have not been kind to you, doggy dear. You have climbed over mountains, uphill both ways. All your lessons were learned the hard way. People in general have consistently disappointed you. 2017 was the end of that cycle. It is over now. 2018 is a fresh start. This is a year of introspection for you. You are protected by the Earth Dog which will demand change but eschew violence as a means of change (2030’s Iron Dog is not going to be that kind!) so this is your chance to tell yourself the truth and choose your path forward without any of the doubt and anxiety which frequently plague you. This year, everyone else gets to writhe with doubt and anxiety, but not you. Whoever else they may criticize or reproach this year, it will not be you. And close association with you will even be able to shield your family and friends from a lot of negative attention too. They want you; they need you. You can provide wise counsel and much needed reassurance. Just be careful in your personal euphoria not to get sucked into any hopelessly utopian endeavors or lost causes.

Pig: Dog admires your ability to fight. Dog sympathizes with your high anxiety levels. You are familiar to Dog. You are as intelligent as Dog. You are almost as conservative as Dog. In general, you and Dog can share space amicably in the barnyard and respect each other. You like the security Dog provides. Dog recognizes your potential to improve things. Dog is a bit more frugal and economical, so you will need to keep your spending under control, and your more self-indulgent habits hidden from public view. This is a year of judgement. Things Get Messy

2018 is the Year of the Brown Earth Dog. That’s right, the Year of the Muddy Dog. The muddy puppy that dashes around your kitchen leaving dirty paw prints all over the kitchen floor, shakes itself spattering mud all over your cabinets and then pees on the rug. Then looks at you with huge, sad puppy dog eyes and whimpers while you are screaming bloody murder.

Dogs want to know where they belong in the pack hierarchy. Earth years require firm management and precise organization. Dogs are suspicious, judgmental, they have impossibly high standards for honesty and loyalty. You are merely a human so you will undoubtedly disappoint the Earth Dog. Society as a whole will be subjected to criticism, skepticism and harsh judgement this year. And the dog is not all bark, it bites too. It worries the issue like a dog worries a bone and doesn’t let it go. There will be protests, complaints, demands for change at all levels. Fortunately this is an Earth Dog, so even if things are loud and acrimonious, the Hounds of Hell don’t really get unleashed until 2030 (Year of the Iron Dog). The Earth Dog is stubborn, it will not give up. It will pursue its goals doggedly. This is not a planning or discussing year. This is a year to work as a pack and get it done. There will be a whole lot of howling and hunting over long distances. Endurance is called for – all distances have to be covered on foot (as the wolf runs, not as the crow flies) and there are no short cuts. Dogs are economical, frugal, intelligent and hard working. That massive, glittering parade the Fire Rooster hosted is over! This year is not about how you look, and not about what you say. Strutting your stuff and crowing time is over. Hopefully everyone took the Rooster year to get their homes and personal lives in order, because now it is time to go out and hunt. Even quiet moments will not be restful this year. Quiet moments will be tedious, patient waiting, or time for licking wounds and re-assembling the pack after a fruitless effort. They will be moments of melancholy, loneliness, disappointment or doubt. We will be as harshly judgmental and critical of ourselves this year as of others.

FLAME ON!

FLAME ON! 2017 is the Year of the Red Fire Rooster.

Rat: You are as at home in the barnyard as you are in the jungle, and the barnyard in 2017 is easy pickings compared to 2016. You are an opportunist and the domestic squabbles and barnyard fracas will provide easy living and not a lot of obstacles. Take what you want. You are going to feel ambitious this year, so set aside the time to really work on your major goals while you are in the mental groove and your confidence is high. It will be a hectic year and emotional outbursts are going to be the norm, for everyone. Be sure to maintain good communication and make time to relax with your loved ones so that nothing gets pent-up or boils over at home due to lack of an outlet. The home is the rock this year that anchors all. It also has the potential to be the Achilles heel, so be vigilant in defending it against intrusion and keeping it calm and comfortable.

Ox: You don't much go for parties, but this year the party is coming to you. It's a bit loud and glitzy for your taste but you will have no trouble sitting back and enjoying it. Oxen might seem incongruous in the Rooster's beauty pageant, since they are not usually the Fairest of Them All. But the Ox has an overwhelming sexual magnetism that the downright bawdy Fire Rooster can't get enough of! You are a sensual creature and the banquet of physical pleasures spread practically in your lap is not unwelcome, nor undeserved. Working years are no great hardship for working animals and the pace is much more to your liking in 2017 than that crazy monkey year 2016. Catching a monkey was completely beyond your ability. But out-weighing or out-bellowing the noisy rooster is no challenge. Stay focused. Use the buzz and energy of the Rooster year to motivate you to reach some realistic goals. Do not be tempted to over-indulge, over-spend or to over-work. Stay within reasonable bounds both in work and play. You are naturally intuitive so go with your instincts this year. There is too much lying and masquerading going on to rely fully on what you hear or see.

Tiger: Back-stabbing, bickering and baiting may be the preferred pastime this year, but don't try any of them on a tiger - you will get severely mauled! And tigers, even you would be better off staying away from other tigers! 2016 was frustrating because the prey was too quick and thumbed its nose at you. This year the prey is neither so quick nor so smart, but it is staying safe in the barnyard and, to add insult to injury, making a hell of a lot of noise in there! You are a solitary predator by nature but for 2017 you need to find (or re-commission) and cultivate a trusted crony to assist you in achieving your goals. King of the Jungle seeks Grand Vizier. Domesticated animals are very wary of tigers and you are going to need assistance to come up with successful plans.

Rabbit: Sorry, this is just not your year. Rooster is the exact opposite in the Chinese zodiac from Rabbit. Noisy vs quiet; domestic vs wild; social vs. solitary; working vs languorous; aggressive vs timid; And this Rooster, the Fire Rooster, is turbo-charged. The fast, frightening year of the monkey didn't get you down because you are pretty quick and, as universal prey, fear can energize you the right way. The Rooster, by contrast, does not energize or motivate you at all!! The barnyard offers not room for your natural talents. Those beautiful long ears of yours are a curse rather than an advantage this year. So much noise and confusion! And it is a work year - rabbits are not working animals. This year bodes very badly for your physical health and your wealth. Watch your back and watch your wallet. And it is a domestic year where the focus will be on home and family, so you are going to have to knuckle down and deal with the personal issues you've been glossing over. Communication is key - but not really one of your strengths. Since this is the area where you are most likely to make progress in an otherwise underperforming year, focus your efforts at home right from the start. Lastly, there is going to be a lot of hanky-panky going on this year. There is a lot of sexual excitement and vanity about the Fire Rooster, and rabbits are very susceptible to sensuality. You will very likely be the target of amorous advances, and possibly sexual harassment.

Dragon: You love the parade, and the glamour and the glitter and fireworks, but there is a certain lack of wisdom and an almost total lack of decorum in 2017. Roosters can be shrewd, but this year they are shrill. In the year of a barnyard animal that is irritating. You would really be better off sitting this year out and just taking a nap, except for the incessant noise!! Everybody is crowing, and cackling, and scratching and squabbling, but for no good reason. You are the focus of any parade - fantastical, mythical, and magical. And the rooster loves the parade, but it is all too noisy and trivial for the dragon whose wise council will go unheeded. Don't let the small creatures distract you from taking care of business and providing vigilant oversight. Communication is very important this year for any success so you will need to speak up, a bit louder, so your voice of reason can be heard. You can provide valuable guidance to help your family members make better decisions and talk logically through emotionally fraught issues. Family and home are most important this year, so give them your attention and maintain a calm, orderly home.

Snake: You and the rooster see eye to eye this year. You like beauty and you will enjoy this show. Art and creativity excite and motivate you so this year will give you energy and momentum. You are also a creature of beauty, grace and power, so you will be much admired and courted (perhaps aggressively) this year. Work years don't really appeal to your nature but this year exerting yourself will pay handsomely so rise to the occasion. Success is within your reach and you are going to have a really good buzz on. Just don't spend all your new wealth in one place. Save what you can for the next few years (the next 5 years belong to the working, domestic animals: Rooster, dog, pig, rat, ox, before we return to the jungle in 2022). And not all the domesticated animals are going to respect you, or interest you, as much as the Rooster does, and 2018 in particular, the year of the Dog, could be very disappointing.

Horse: This is a relatively easy year for you. Comb that mane and tail and prance a little to fit into the rooster's parade around the yard and you won't need to exert yourself much to get along and succeed. There are plenty of fresh faces in the crowd but the horse is a bit too socially discriminating to start up any new relationships this year and you tire quickly of partying with the masses. It is a work year, but you are a hard worker anyway, and just as good at pulling as a team as you are at racing. Just remember to be a little more of a show horse (and that does NOT mean bucking bronco - it means more like Tennessee Walker) this year and you really won't encounter any obstacles.

Goat: You can dance if you want to! Social opportunities abound and you like to dance, so cut the rug. Of course, you are plagued by insecurity and the gossip this year will be brutal, so wear your thickest skin. Your heart is tender so be prepared for some emotional bruises. You are in love with love - be careful this year, there is plenty of romance in the air but it is fickle and fleeting. This is not a year to form lasting attachments or make romantic commitments. You are a nimble climber, so tripping up the social ladder this year is a cake walk for you. You have excellent manners and will be invited everywhere. Mind your p's and q's because jealous observers are waiting to quote you out of context. This is a working year. You are a herd animal so communication comes naturally. You should be able to succeed this year so long as you keep up your confidence and work really hard. Stay focused on the big goals - so many little details will get lost in the shuffle and swirl you will need all your nimbleness to scamper and sidestep through the chaos without getting side-tracked or detoured from your goal.

Monkey: You are the most intelligent of the animal signs so all you need to do this year is use your intellect, and your charm. It is going to be much slower paced than 2016 so you will easily stay ahead of the game. You are social and witty so you will fit right into the Fire Rooster's house party. Just make sure at the end of the night that you don't get stuck with the bill or fall asleep in the wrong bed! Since you are nearly conscienceless, you will find all the in-fighting and jealousies merely amusing. You are most likely to be the one stirring that pot and laughing your ass off when the feathers start flying. You are also quite capable of taking advantage of the overall amorous mood and excited vanities to seduce others for casual sex. But beware malicious gossip and even blackmail attempts against you. Remember that this is a work year - if you undertake an important project you must communicate your requirements very clearly, and preferably in writing, to your team. This is a very social year and it is beneficial to network, but keep your business and personal relationships separate. Although you are very clever and largely self-taught, if there is any matter of business that is outside your area expertise, do not delay in seeking expert advice this year. And this is the year of a domestic animal so don't wander far from the barnyard and keep a close eye and ear on the hen house at all times - if anything blows up this year, home will be ground zero.

Rooster: You can just be yourself. You will feel like a million dollars. You will look like a million dollars. Just try not to spend a million dollars, even if you do manage to earn a million dollars. Your risk of failure in a fire year is markedly decreased since you can pretty much count on being reborn. You have a knack for reinventing yourself anyway, hourly if necessary. You can strut and crow and squabble with the best of them. Shake those tail feathers on the cat-walk. You weren't planning on leaving the barnyard anyway, and happily, this year, the barnyard is where it's at.

Dog: Dear, doggy, what can I say (to myself, the Iron Dog)? Dogs are going to worry and be anxious no matter what. This year the things causing dogs the most anxiety will all be close to home and on the domestic side. Who can really worry about those strange lights and noises far off in the jungle with all that racket coming from the barnyard??! You are a working animal so a work year poses no real difficulty for you. And you are a pack animal so teamwork and communication come naturally. But all the squawking and the squabbling is going to get you really worked up. And nobody is going to pat you on the head and calm you down this year. Build the Fire Higher

2016 was the year of the Red Fire Monkey and it led us on a merry dance, took us for a wild ride and left us hanging upside down with our heads spinning! The roulette wheel comes to a halt and the high-stakes gamblers can cash in their chips and go home in 2017. It's not that luck has run out, but luck won't get you through this year (but looks just might, so doll up!). The stakes are lower because the risks are lower. Ordinarily, the rooster is a vain, self-aggrandizing, bickering, barnyard animal, no match for the larger, swifter, more cunning animals of the zodiac. And the Red Fire Rooster is both more beautiful and more boastful than the other roosters. This year will be something of a beauty pageant - appearances will matter a lot more than usual. And the gossip and the bickering and the jealousy will at times overwhelm the real substance and meaningful progress. But the rooster is a farm animal, domesticated for a purpose. 2017, despite the pretty plumage and all that crowing, is a work year. Progress will be slow and hard-earned and is heavily dependent on teamwork and good communication skills. In the romance department, it is all for show and skin-deep because the only love abounding in the year of the rooster is self-love. In the year of a domesticated animal, even the jungle beasts must keep a close eye on home and family. This is no time to roam or leave your hen house unguarded. 2017 is a Fire Rooster, so everyone needs to remember that this rooster has the potential to be a Phoenix. Winners in 2017, don't rest on your laurels. Remain vigilant because problems you have solved and opponents you have bested have a higher than usual probability of resurrecting themselves. That total solar eclipse

BURNING DOWN THE HOUSE!

Smack that blue, wooden goat on the way out, and give it an extra smack for me! Did the unseasonably warm weather fend off the wooden years’ tendency to grind to a halt in cold weather? Not for me – all energy and vitality this year really fizzled after Halloween. Oh, I soldiered on but it was uphill both ways and every minor detail turned into a huge cranky bear that just wanted to hibernate. All forward motion was really, well, “dogged”. I am a Dog, and even I did not enjoy it. I’m done hauling wood – time to light the fire!! There is a storm brewing.

The Year of the Red Fire Monkey

This is going to be a wild ride. Money, wisdom and total chaos combine this year in a perfect storm. Whatever happens will happen fast. The winners have to be old and experienced enough to predict which way the wind will blow – they have seen it all before - or stalwart and focused enough to just hang on and ignore the excessive noise and rapidly changing details.
