What Is A Building Survey?
PRESENT CONDITION & MAINTENANCE NEEDS
A building survey report is the most detailed survey available from Chartered Surveyors. Although it’s thorough, it may still lead to recommendations for further investigation from other professionals with more specialist knowledge, such as a structural engineer or an electrician.
The building survey report looks in detail at the property to report on the visual condition and maintenance needs of up to nine external construction elements as well as nine internal elements of construction and seven services supplied to the building.
OTHER CONSIDERATIONS
As part of the survey, there is also consideration given to methods of fire escape, which in older houses may often be compromised by poor alteration over the years. There is no market valuation or an assessment of rebuilding costs for insurance, although these can be added if desired.
As well as surveying, building surveyors in the UK give advice on boundary disputes, party walls, design, construction, maintenance and repair. They may also assess damage or dilapidations (repairs needed due to wear and tear).
