Darius Rucker Delivers ‘Amazing Grace’ to Charleston Victims

South Carolina “homegrown honey” Darius Rucker has long made his home in Charleston. And this weekend during a concert stop, he used the power of song to pay tribute to the city, which has been healing in the aftermath of a mass church shooting that took the lives of nine people on June 18.

Rucker took a moment during a Texas show to dim the lights and perform a beautiful a cappella version of “Amazing Grace.”

It was the same day that President Obama also delivered a powerful version of the traditional hymn at the funeral for one of the victims.  

Since the tragedy occurred last week, Rucker has been very strong in his support for his home city. During an appearance on CBS’s The Talk, he had this to say when asked about the events:

“I want to say to all the people at the Mother Emanuel, my love is there….People ask me all the time what my favorite part of Charleston is, and I always say the people, and they proved it through this. I’m so proud of my community, my town, the way we got together.”
