SLEAZE: What is it?

As I mentioned in the “First Post”, I might sometimes take on topics that might be viewed by some as controversial, and in this here second post, I decided to waste no time, and get right to it.

What is “Sleaze” or being “sleazy”...?

Well, that depends on who you ask. It seems to me, as an adult male, who upon occasion or desire sometimes do adult things, that there isn’t a really well understood and obvious definition in peoples’ minds, as to what “sleaziness” or “sleaze” really is.

The Google (I know it’s just “Google”, but I wanted to say it like my mom does) says:

sleaze (noun British) - Immoral, sordid, and corrupt behaviour or activities. I.e “political campaigns that are long on sleaze and short on substance”

sleaze (verb, informal) - behave in an immoral, corrupt, or sordid way. I.e. “you’re the last person who has to sleaze around bars”

Obviously The Google is not too sex positive about “sleaze”. The definition is also just inadequate, but Urban Dictionary is more entertainingly “woke”:

sleazy: Shabby, dirty, and vulger, often the word is associated with prostitutes:

Prostitute: “Want a knobber?”

Dude: “You’z a sleazy ass ho!...i’ll meet you in 5 minutes.

And my favourite:

sleazy: Not quite slutty, but not classy either. Kind of trashy in a good way:

“That chick was so sleazy, she walked around the company in just her underwear, with a cigarette and a bottle of Hennessy”

Needless to say, I think UD got closest, but still not on point.

Sleaze. What do I think it is? :: Quick coming-out story: I’m sleazy. Sleazy and proud (in private). And because I’m sleazy and have sought after sleaze myself, I have somewhat unique insight from which to try and untangle and clear the murk, so that, maybe, we could arrive at a better definition.

The reason for pursuing a better clearer definition for “sleaze”, is not because I’m some kind of linguistics pedant with too much free time and porn on my hands or anything. Instead it’s because I think many people out there really actually need a proper definition for their “sleaze”:

Here goes:

Sleaze is sexual. The word “sleazy” might be used in other contexts to describe other things, like Trump Tower, or gold-plated plastic kitsch. But it ultimately just borrows from what, below the surface, just at the periphery of our conscious thoughts, we all don’t know we know it means.

Sleazy sexual scenarios always have certain perceptual concepts in common, and arousal is achieved by including:

First (and central)

Availability: In a sleazy sex scenario, none of the characters involved needs to be persuaded to be sexually available. They are all open (use your imagination) and available, RIGHT NOW and willing.

Second

Promiscuity: The idea of any kind of “chastity” is completely and with great thrill eagerly vandalized! In no sleazy scenario ever, was someone prude, or concerned with “saving” themselves for more “virtuous” partners. Quite the opposite. The goal is to be, unholy, common, and more willing more open, more naked, and more available, for more partners more often. If they’re strangers, even better!

Third

Freedom: Freedom from time, social etiquette, routine and duty. Sleaze cannot be committed if you’re pressed for time. You need to relax. Even better, if you’re under the impression that you have all the time in the world...

Forth

Intimacy: The idea is to be as intimate physically and verbally with your partner as you can and if they’re a virtual stranger, even better! Real sleaziness, is being deep inside your partner, or them being deep inside you (preferably without protection) and telling them how much you LOVE them RIGHT NOW!

Of course many of the above-mentioned activities are dangerous. But we’re not really talking about acting out these descriptions and checking them off the list to earn a sleaziness badge of honour. We’re talking about perceptions: The “menu” that most people who would self identify as sleazy, would like to read from when fantasising their favourite kind of sexual encounter, albeit something that for better or worse merely stays in their imagination forever, or not quite...

First Post

So, it’s been years and years since I first created The Thought Provoking Zoo, but this is the first post:

I Thought it wise to set out and explain what TPZ is about and how I aim to manage it, and why I chose Tumblr as the platform.

Here goes...

Because Tumblr is a, so called, micro-blogging platform and generally a place for many creative souls to hang out, I thought it would also be and ideal place for my thoughts to hang out. Posts might be edited, replaced, or completely overhauled at my discretion.

In the spirit that I think the title suggests, this mini-blog will function less like an actual blog, and more like a sculpture. I will add, subtract, redact wherever I think necessary in an ongoing way. Because, firstly, it is after all, my blog. (My castle, my rules.) And secondly, because it’s not supposed to be taken too seriously. It’s only to provoke thoughts, questions and speculations. Curiosity is it’s innermost value!

I aim to take on strange, curious, and what might be regarded by many, as controversial, topics, and in my forever receding naivete, do them some rational justice as best I can muster.

On that note. Enoy the first bleep-bloops of TPZ!
