False.
Here is pepper, a spice universally beloved around the world for as long as we have been cooking, mummified with Ramesses II so his afterlife could be well seasoned, part of the ransom Alaric, king of the Visigoths demanded after he sacked Rome, the spice that (among others) funded the European Renaissance, that Europeans created modern day colonialism and consumed country after country in Asia, Africa, and the Middle East / North Africa in pursuit of. The ubiquitousness of pepper next to salt on the dinner table (which exists primarily in the West) is both a testament to its deliciousness and a SOBERING reminder of WHY we live in the world we live in - a reminder of everyone who had to be conquered, colonized, subjugated, and killed for centuries all so we could make black pepper so cheap, mundane, and ubiquitous that it’s just “fine”.
i love that salt and pepper come in a set. here is salt, a building block of humanity, one of the basic human tastes, essential to life on earth, absolutely fundamental.
and here's pepper. it's fine.

People still tend to lump JK Rowling in with the category of ~problematic artists~ and I need everyone to understand that is not the problem with her. She is not comparable to anyone who wrote a piece of fiction you hate, or someone who made rude comments in 2015 and has since learned better.
She is far more like Elon Musk. She is a radicalized person with an extreme amount of social and financial power, and for YEARS she has been using that power to try to influence her government into hurting vulnerable people, on purpose. And she has succeeded. THAT is the problem with her, and THAT is why spending money on her books is so dangerous, not because her books aged badly.
Critiquing her work is fine, of course (I personally was never a fan so I really don’t care) but you NEED to understand that fiction is not the main issue here. And I truly think acting like she’s the same as the rest of any giant list of ~problematic creators of the week~ waters down how dangerous she is.

as a severely mentally ill 14 year old, I remember thinking “the medical system would treat me better if I was physically ill and not mentally ill” and then I coincidentally developed multiple chronic illnesses and found out that actually they dgaf even when you’re essentially bedridden

Reblogging this rant to add -
One of the primary pieces of “proof” people have that Grace Chow is antiBlack is that in the first scene we see her and Bo, she is running the white grocery store and he’s running the black grocery store on opposite sides of the street.
Except - people are missing an incredibly important piece of context.
Grace is running the white people grocery store because at that time in American history, Asian men were being lynched en masse over the perceived sexual threat white men thought they posed to white women. Her husband could be strung up for talking to a white woman in public. This is a literal act of survival under white supremacy that positions Grace not as an “ally” to whiteness or “pandering” to whiteness, but as a GUARD DOG for her family to keep her husband and Black community members safe. She is putting herself at risk of racial violence from white people, particularly sexual violence at the hands of white men, because if she gets harassed or violated its “not a big deal”, but if there is even a whisper of impropriety on her husband’s part, HE GETS KILLED.
Which is what makes Remmick threatening her with sexual assault because of her husband so poignant to me as a Chinese person. Grace spent her whole life guarding her husband and her family, risking her own safety for their future, and she can’t escape it even in the last moments of her life and she must give up her life entirely to protect her daughter from this days.
Asian people in America have always faced systemic racial oppression and violence. We always have. Genuinely do not know who is the fucking genius that decided to start lying and say we didn’t. Asian and White race relations in America and also throughout the world were irrevocably changed by WW2, which is how the whole “model minority” myth came to be. Sinners takes places in 1932 - before WW2. You cannot apply post WW2 race politics, and particularly those that are literally white supremacist propaganda, to something that existed before that was constructed. Prior to conquering of Asia during ww2 by America, Asians were the Yellow Peril. A sinister, godless, corrupting force invading America to undermine white men and steal white women. Asian people in America knew this and would not have “pandered” to whiteness or viewed white people as anything other than the dominant ruling class that held the power of life and death over them, that were the enemy to pacify and keep at bay. JUST LIKE THE EXPERIENCE OF ALL THE OTHER PEOPLE OF COLOR.
Ryan Coogler has stated multiple times that Sinners is NOT putting Black people against Chinese people, like Sinophobic racists want it to. It is very clearly and directly about the Mississippi Delta Black experience contending with white supremacy after emancipation, during Jim Crow.
By hyperfixating on Grace’s alleged wrongdoings that are frankly not in the movie whatsoever, were not put there by the director, and are clearly manifestations of internalized Sinophobic / anti-Asian racism on the part of the people doing the hyperfixating, we are doing such a massive disservice to this masterpiece of the movie and completely trivializing and erasing the Blackness of the movie and it’s message.
SINNERS 2025 SPOILERS
If Grace Chow has no fans then I’m dead. Someone has hit me with their car. That is what it would take for me to stop being a Grace Chow defender. I genuinely don’t think she did anything wrong. The version of Sinners in which she did do things wrong is NOT the version of the movie that actually exists irl. It is made very crystal fucking clear that everyone in the juke joint was doomed from the moment Sammie began to sing and caught Remmick’s attention.
What is your community response to colonial and white supremacist violence? Do you wait complacently until sunrise for the vampires to maybe go away, even after the vampires have literally killed your friends and community members and actively threaten to destroy the rest of your community?
Or do you HANDLE SHIT when it happens, even at the cost of your own life? Are you actually willing to sacrifice anything to defeat evil?
While Grace got ahead of everyone, I am 100% sure that they would’ve come to the same conclusion on their own that the best way to protect the town would be to try and kill as many vampires as possible so they don’t make it there. Remmick clearly would’ve personally dragged every single townsperson and turned them in front of the juke joint to force Sammie to surrender himself.
And if Annie and Smoke’s daughter were still alive, what the fuck do y’all think Annie would’ve done?
The hatred for Grace’s actions and Grace herself is RACIALIZED MISOGYNY rooted in 1. viewing Chinese people as the Yellow Peril and 2. viewing Chinese women as objects - either victims or something to overcome and subdue. Even today when Asian women don’t behave according to the racial stereotypes EVERYONE, including Asian men and other people of color, projects onto us, all those people react with VIOLENCE to put us back in our places.
You are mad that you can’t put Grace in her place, as an extension of what you think of all Chinese women and Asian women (more broadly) and what our place is, according to you.
There’s also the part where Remmick literally sexually harasses Grace and threatens her with rape. We’re all just blowing past that because rape, sexual harassment, and sexual violence are excusable and normal for Asian women to endure, TO Y’ALL.
(Do you know how many people have told me to my face that being raped for being Chinese, and having multiple women and girls in my family being raped and sexually abused as CHILDREN by white men, is something we deserved? Is something we had coming, that we secretly wanted? Hundreds. Hundreds of men have told me that.)
He threatens her daughter in the same scene. When Mary turns Stack into a vampire, that act is portrayed as being adjacent to sexual assault. Grace would know because she was literally there. Remmick threatens her with rape. He threatens to at minimum sexually predate upon her daughter. Her husband is allied with this white man, who is also threatening her community (yes, she’s a member of the community despite not being Black!), her friends, her customers, the loved ones of everyone else at the juke joint.
And people being Sinophobic and racist and misogynistic would have preferred her to do nothing because Chinese women are not people to them. We are not people to you. Y’all are looking for literally anyone else to blame besides Remmick, the actual villain.
Maybe it’s not that Grace is the villain. Maybe it’s not that Grace is an evil Chinese dragon lady who hates Black people. Maybe you are projecting your own views on Chinese people onto her. Just a suggestion.

My one friend really likes "yo mama" jokes, but she feels bad for saying them to me because my mama's dead, and lately she's been circumventing this by adding "in heaven" to them, a concept I was introduced to with zero warning via a text that said, "Yo mama's so stupid she's in heaven pre-heating the microwave."

The people who go "well who's going to look after you when you're old?" when you say you're not having kids are breathtakingly naive. Our next-door neighbour, somewhere in her mid-80s, has a son, grandkids, and a grear-granddaughter, and who's the one she calls when she needs help, and checks that she's not spending christmas alone? Me and my boyfriend.
Having kids is irrelevant if the answer to that question is still going to be "the mentally ill faggots next door."

I re-blogged this (the first time) in 2014. Today, I tried half a dozen times to re-blog it, and it wouldn’t work. So, I saved the images and re-posted it. I hope it helps make life a little easier. :-)   The original post is by iraffiruse.

i actually need to know people's thoughts on this because at least in my experience the answer to this has drastically changed since i was on tumblr in the 2010s and its driving me fucking insane
*im talking about fandom takes specifically. not someone being horribly evil about a real-life issue or or blatantly factually incorrect. literally just harmless fandom disagreements or differing interpretations of a text/character/etc.
