Smoking could make you more vulnerable to a severe infection with the novel coronavirus, is the outcome from a study from the Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, who studied a sample group in Wuhan.

Smoking is associated with increased development of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) in people with a risk factor like severe infection, non-pulmonary sepsis (blood infection), or blunt trauma.   People who have any cotinine (a metabolite of nicotine) in their bodies – even at the low levels associated with secondhand smoke – have substantially increased risk of acute respiratory failure from ARDS. So how does that effect vapers.

Since early December 2019, the 2019 novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has caused pneumonia epidemic in Wuhan, Hubei province of China. Initial data out of China, on smokers and former smokers, who presented with COVID-19, showed that the severity of illness seemed to be associated with being a smoker or former smoker. Obviously we know that smoking damages our health so weakened lungs being more vulnerable to a viral attack isn’t surprising. A direct line can be seen with the more lung damage you have and the disease severity.

I asked him to blend in to the background so I had a picture to post here. This is what I have to work with. I can only apologise.

BACKGROUND:

Since early December 2019, the 2019 novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has caused pneumonia epidemic in Wuhan, Hubei province of China. This study aims to investigate the factors affecting the progression of pneumonia in COVID-19 patients. Associated results will be used to evaluate the prognosis and to find the optimal treatment regimens for COVID-19 pneumonia.

METHODS:

Patients tested positive for the COVID-19 based on nucleic acid detection were included in this study. Patients were admitted to 3 tertiary hospitals in Wuhan between December 30, 2019, and January 15, 2020. Individual data, laboratory indices, imaging characteristics, and clinical data were collected, and statistical analysis was performed. Based on clinical typing results, the patients were divided into a progression group or an improvement/stabilisation group. Continuous variables were analysed using independent samples t-test or Mann-Whitney U test. Categorical variables were analysed using Chi-squared test or Fisher exact test. Logistic regression analysis was performed to explore the risk factors for disease progression.

Study Results

Seventy-eight patients with COVID-19-induced pneumonia met the inclusion criteria and were included in this study. Efficacy evaluation at 2 weeks after hospitalisation indicated that 11 patients (14.1%) had deteriorated, and 67 patients (85.9%) had improved/stabilised. The patients in the progression group were significantly older than those in the disease improvement/stabilisation group. The progression group had a significantly higher proportion of patients with a history of smoking than the improvement/stabilisation group (27.3% vs. 3.0%). For all the 78 patients, fever was the most common initial symptom, and the maximum body temperature at admission was significantly higher in the progression group than in the improvement/stabilisation group 38.2°C vs. 37.5°C. Along with early indicators the study looked at many factors such as Respiratory failure, respiratory rate,breaths per minute,C-reactive protein  levels, age,weight and where there was a history of smoking. These factors along with survival rates helped form the conclusion on the sample group study.

Conclusion

Several factors that led to the progression of COVID-19 pneumonia were identified, including age, history of smoking, maximum body temperature on admission, respiratory failure, albumin, C-reactive protein. These results can be used to further enhance the ability of management of COVID-19 pneumonia.

We know e-cigarette liquid and vapour contains numerous chemicals that can cause an inflammatory response in the lung tissue, when tissue is inflamed there is always risk of damage cause airway constriction, and has the potential to increase risk of infection. Since the e-cigarette phenomenon is still recent, we just don’t have as well-established information from humans as to the extent of this damage.

While most experts acknowledge that it’s still too early to know for sure, the possibility of a connection between vaping and COVID-19 suggests that young people and others who use e-cigarettes should take the threat seriously. If you didn’t smoke don’t vape.

Innokin I.O Mini Pod VS JUUL

Here we are we have an Innokin I.O and we’ve got a Juul next to each other and let’s break them down and give them a comparison. It’s not about which one’s best, but it’s about which one’s most suitable, which one is going to work for you the best.

Battery Size

So let’s start with battery capacity, the Innokin I.O has a battery capacity of 310mAh and the Juul has a battery capacity of 280mAh. So both very low battery capacities, but what is basically expected in a device of this size.

Aesthetics

Well as you can see the Innokin I.O is slightly thinner and slightly shorter than the Juul, so if getting something as compact as possible is what you’re looking for then the Innokin I.O is definitely the smaller of the two.

Pod options and flavours

Now this is where there’s a large difference between the two. When it comes to pod options and flavours there is a huge difference so with Innokin I.O you have refillable pods. The benefit of having refillable pods means that you know you’re not just disposing the pod after you’ve finished one lot of juice. So you can refill, within reason, whatever juice you want to. I like using a 50/50 Nic Salt based juice whereas the Juul has 0.7ml pre-filled pods.

Now the amount of flavour profiles available for the Juul is a bit of a disadvantage, but the fact that they come pre-loaded and they’re already primed and ready to go is a huge benefit. You’ve got six flavour profiles to pick from.

When it comes to accessibility I’d say they’re both pretty damn accessible. but the Juul does take it on that one, just because it’s plug-and-play.

Who are they for? Well to be perfectly honest both of these devices are for exactly the same people, they’re for somebody that wants a very stealthy very intuitive, very practical bit of kit. The only thing that goes against anything of this size is battery capacity.

Both of these systems have merit, of course they do, I understand why the Juul has become so popular since it it was introduced into the vaping world. It is simple, it is easy, it performs really well and the build quality is pretty damn good. I do like them both, I’ve enjoyed using them both and I think that there is a place for both of them in vaping.

Sub-Ohm Coils In MTL Devices Explained

One of the most popular questions I got asked about is, “What’s going on with having sub ohm resistance coils for MTL tanks?” Now generally from a sub ohm resistance based coil in a mouth to lung context, for instance with Innokin Zenith Tank, what you’re getting from that sub ohm resistance is a little bit more airflow. You get a little bit more flavour coming through because you’re using a little bit more wattage. For instance I’ve got the 0.8 Ohm Z coil in the Zenith Tank and at 15 watts it gives me a nice warm flavoursome vape.

There are other options, on the market but currently the Zenith tank is my favourite set-up in this context. The other huge advantageis the ability to wick and vape thicker eliquids. A lot of more premium juices & nic salts now come in at above 50/50 pg-vg ratio, with some being as high as 70-30. Now with a sub ohm coil you’ll have a better time vaping those thicker eliquids, although it will of course reduce the longevity of your coils life, but that’s just the price you have to pay to enjoy that thicker more premium juice.

So despite what the label reads, a sub-ohm (under 1 ohm) coil in a mtl tank is still MTL vaping, you’re not suddenly sub-ohming or cloud chasing. Your general vaping experience will be the same. However these new coil types will allow you to full advantage of more of the premium eliquids and nic salts on the market now, without having to get rid of your MTL kit or pod device.

So we got our hands on the latest hype beast thanks to our friends at 8Vape. You know that already because you are smart and read the title, so lets get straight to it. First up what do you get with this pod device:

The mesh COIL is a decent-sized coil for a pod system, it has noticeably big wicking ports which is a great sign. You know these coils are going to saturate well and produce good vapour when you see this.

The robust look of this discreet pod fits with a design trend seen with the rest of the Aegis Range. So huge expectations for durability with features such as: Waterproof, Dustproof and Shockproof. The GeekVape Aegis Boost Pod Device Kit features a 0.42 inch OLED display with a horizontal menu and an easy to read screen. This device also features the AS chipset which can produce 40W maximum output, and charges using a micro USB cord.

The Aegis has got comfort and style nailed, demonstrated by the leather that runs up the back of the device with contrasting stitching down the centre of the back cushion pad. On the side there is a discreet rubber tab. Simply get a nail under the lip and flip it up to reveal the charging port. It’s a micro USB charging dock, which you will be hooking up to daily to charge the 1500 mAh battery. So thats plenty for getting through the day unless you really like to direct inhale or DTL. In which case you are likely going to want to watch your battery life by the time you get to early evening.

To access the pod there is a little tab that you push and then you have access to the pod system. On the front you’ll find adjustable air flow which is relatively loose at best through to swooshy for a full airy vape. Right below there is a fire button and the standard plus and minus buttons to vary power.

Focusing on the pod itself, the fill port is revealed until yet another tab you need nails to expose. It is some what unusual to see this top fill but it offers ease and convenience on the go. The Aegis offers some features that you don’t get across the board with other pods. First up it has a dust cap to keep unwanted bits getting in your mouth piece. Next is a real USP it has mouth piece options you can pinch and pull the mouth piece to swap the flap mouth piece over for a circular one. I really like that progression. The connection isn’t quite a a 510 so it wont take your standard mouth pieces which is annoying if you’ve invested in some swanky brands.

With the pod out you can change the coil and see the contacts for connecting the coil within the pod to the device.

The 1500 milliamp hour battery powers up to 40 watts output. This alone is covering everything for your vaping needs. Plus the AEGIS 40W POD has got the latest chipset giving you instant firing speed of 0.08 seconds. If you are worried about the battery not making it through the full day you will be relieved to know it has 1.5 amp fast charging also the port will support firmware upgrades and the board covers all the usual protections

The two 0.6 ohm kanthal mesh coils that are included are recommended at 20 to 25 a watts. Click on the image below to see more.

Final thoughts

Ok so straight out with it I love this device. Ok this pod device is not the first of its generation, it is a successor to some already great devices designed to survive the struggles of a daily carry. But this waterproof, shockproof, and dustproof Aegis devices does offer extreme style and most importantly it pushes forward the development of vaping devices. It’s lightweight design. Yet features a large internal battery, it fires instantly, and features a SAFETY measures that we have come to expect in 2020 I am really looking forward to trying the RDTA. Which will offer affordability and accessibility to this great device.  Finally and I cant believe I haven’t mentioned it yet this device is such a flavoursome vape. If you’ve been hanging back waiting for pod systems to offer something as great as you sub tank.. This is it.

Innokin Zlide Tank Review

The Innokin Zlide Tank, looking at it yes it’s a MTL tank, you can kind of tell that from the narrow mouthpiece and generally the sort of dimensions of the tank. It’s top fill, it’s got great airflow, but what is it for, what’s its main purpose?

well it is a cheaper alternative to the already amazing Innokin Zenith Tank. It uses exactly the same coils however, the zlide tank does come with Innokin’s latest version of the Z-coil. It is a Plex 3d 0.4 ohm coil which I find to be superb with Nic Salt e-liquids.

The Plex 3d coils are coils that have the ability to heat up and cool down quicker than your normal coil, they also use a really nice new different combination of wicking material, they use not only organic cotton but also wood pulp and it really does help give you such an amazing flavour.

Let’s go in a bit harder on the Zlide; well it’s lovely to look at. You’ve got a resin style mouthpiece, you’ve got a nice form factor it’s 22mm in diameter, its airflow is nice and swooshy, it’s not quite as loose as the zenith airflow can be when it’s left fully open, but it’s a really really nice well performing mouth to lung tank. And as with all Innokin products you get a lot of goodies in the box, including a spare Pyrex glass. That is a big difference to the Zenith, you can replace the glass.

It’s really, really well made, the air flow is lovely again well machined. It certainly performs really really nicely but overall it’s a really, really well made, nice looking tank and at a price point of under £/$20 and with a decent amount of vapour production and really good flavour.

I am blown away with just how it works, it’s stunning of mouth to lung experiences. This tank is is is a great addition to an already strong line up by Innokin. If you if you’re looking for an absolutely top-end mouth to lung tank on a budget, then look no further than the Innokin Zlide Tank.

Vaporesso Gen Kit Review

The Best Sub Ohm Kit of 2019?

I’ve got a great new sub-ohm kit here from Vaporesso, the Vaporesso Gen Kit. The box mod has soft touch coating which is four layers of coating allowing for this rubberised feel that is scratch proof. It says scratch proof I’m not going to test that, let’s be realistic it might be scratch proof in your back pocket, but if you rub it up and down gravel maybe not. But if you’re rubbing a mod up and down gravel you don’t deserve to have it, so get in the sea!!

The Gen mod itself has 220 watts of power to play with, which is excellent. It’s a dual 18650 battery device, so plenty of battery power there. You can charge through the device or on it or use it an external battery charger, you decide. Like most box mods, it has temperature control functions etc etc… I’m only ever going to use it on a power function because I’m not into temperature control in the slightest.

It’s a very refined looking mod, this black one in particular this black and gold look you know you’ve got a gold button at the top you’ve got a gold Vaporesso logo at the base of the back panel, it’s a nice looking mod. I think the aesthetic they’ve gone for is very DotMod DotBox 200 watt, but a lot more acceptable price point!!

The USP, if you will, of the Vaporesso Gen mod is the fact that it’s got a ‘pulse function’. Essentially what that does is give you a consistent continuous output where you’re getting great flavour and great vapour production for the length of your hit. Every point zero two seconds it pulses, that’s so quick that you’re not going to notice it and gives you a continuation of flavour. It sounds excellent it sounds even unnecessary but yep it works!

Innokin Z Biip Review

The Innokin Z-Biip, it’s got a 1500 milliamp battery capacity, which for a pod system is out of this world. We’ve got three different output options, we’ve got 11 watts, we’ve got 14 watts and we’ve got 16 watts.

It’s nice and easy to use, you’ve got an airflow control ring which holds the coil in, one of my favourite things of using this device is the fact that it can use any pre-existing Z coil that are associated with the zenith tank and can also be used in the Innokin Zlide tank as well. With the introduction of the Z-Biip we saw the introduction of the latest Zed coil the 0.48 Ohm Plex 3d coil that’s what’s in situ in the Z-Biip when you take it out the box.

That coil is great I’m running it at 14 watts and I’m getting lots of flavour, a good amount of vapour, it’s just a really nice coil to use. With it being a mesh 3d coil it heats up and cools down quicker than normal coils, which means you get a little bit more life out of it.

Another thing that I’ve garnered from using the Innokin Z-Biip is the enjoyable beeping sound it makes it reminds me of one of those sort of fisher-price children’s sort of learning toy devices where you push a button!

You get a pod system with massive amounts of battery life, a great bit of audio function and also the ability to use excellent pre-existing Z-coils. Everything you’re looking for in a pod system here you go, it is a refillable pod, you can put coil different coils in it, you’ve got different resistances to pick too.

I’ve really really enjoyed the way that it just generally works. It’s simple, it functions effectively and it does what I need it to do, which is give me a nice nic salt base vape all day long, I’m happy!!

Innokin I.O Mini Pod System Review

This latest innovation in pod technology hit the market and it didn’t make any noise. It’s like it just landed on the shelves of Vape Stores across the UK. Perhaps it’s because it’s so small in just snuck in. This tiny little thing here has auto fire technology and yet my finger is bigger, wider and longer than this tiny Innokin i/o pod system. Ok it has arrived at a time when the world market has been hit but health scares from people putting liquid in a vape device that shouldnt be there. There has been alot of bad press this last twelve months. Also the vaping industry is not allowed to market itself to smokers as a safer alternative. Those that already vape however are being spoilt with some fantastic options in Mouth To Lung MTL devices. So this is a competitive marketplace with other options such as the Juul or the pod systems from blu both owned by Tobacco organisations. Perhaps thats how this impressive device snuck in so quietly.

What does Innokin bring us with this device. Well the Innokin IO pod device has a 310mAh battery which is small as you would expect but it also takes approximatly 20 minutes to charge fully. At the base of the unit you find a micro usb port which is quick charge. Every house has these cables knocking around but you do get a cable in the box.

There are currently two coil options available both rated at 1.4ohm. One is a Kanthal coil the other is a Ceramic coil. They are refillable pods NOT prefilled pods they’re refillable. So you can put your own e-liquid in there it has an output of between 5.5 and 8.5 watts. Depending on the pods you put in. It’s automatic trigger is absolutely spot-on, I’ve been using it this last few days and it works fast. The moment you start to inhale it fires up the coil. It is rapid.

The IO is designed for those who need convenience and appreciate being discreet. You can hide in in your top pocket, handbag, manbag, skinny jeans whatever. It’s available in five different colour ways including this beautiful rainbow finish. Due to the size of the refillable pods you need to use a needle refill adapter. It comes with one in the box and you also get one included when you buy replacement pods. It sits on top of a 10 mil bottle which has a narrow fill needle then fits nicely inside of your pod. So refills are easy and pretty mess free. Honestly I prefer not having to mess around with adapters but for the convenience of a stealth vape I understand why Innokin have gone for this design.

I’ve got a 50/50 VG caramel tobacco from the Aura in my pod. It is called Truth and I would definitely recommend you check it out. My put has the ceramic coil. You can define them by looking at the base of the pods the Kanthal pod has a black base and the Ceramic has a green base.

Ok so its a tight draw that works best with a long slow inhale. The IO performs superbly considering the output. The actual amount of vapour production is pretty damn good and it gives you a decent throat hit. Innokin Endura T18ii Coil Change Tutorial

Tutorial time I have the Innokin Endora T18ii in front of me. First up we want to take the tank off the actual battery. So holding the base of the tank and the airflow ring we just unscrew the tank from the battery.

Ok so thats straight forward unscrewing the two parts. Now we have a battery we can put to one side and we are going to take the Prism T18 tank. Now we want to get access to the coil. You’ve got this little circular plate at the base of the tank.

So just unscrew the base plate and there it is you have access to the coil.

By taking the thread of the coil between your index finger and thumb pinch down and just pull the coil out of the tank.

Now you may wish to empty out your e-liquid ready for a fresh coil. Once your tank is cleaned up you are ready to place your new coil in.

This is as simple as the removal simply reversing the process. You just slide them in there like that making sure that it sits flush between these two plinth either side of the thread at the base of the tank. When you twist and rotate the coil in to the right alignment it drops in between the plinths and you are then able to screw the base plate back on.

Screw your base plate back on, you know you’ve done it right when it screws flush to the base of the tank again. Now we need to attach our battery back on to the base of our tank. So we screw that back in. Making sure we dont hit the power button as we will burn the cotton in the coil.

Next step is to fill our tank up with fresh e-liquid. To get access to the fill port at the top of the tank you need to grab the top of the tap just below the mouth piece firmly and unscrew the top cap from the tank. That leaves you with the centre of the coil chimney showing in the centre. Try to not get juice down that tiny hole. We want to be pouring our e-liquid in the gap between the centre and outer wall of the tank.

Ok finally the last step once filled screw your top cap back on and then leave your new coil to absorb the e-liquid by standing your device upright for around 15 minutes maybe 20 minutes to be on the safe side.

The Top 5 Starter Tanks

My Top Five mouth to lung tanks that are easily available almost anywhere and as you may see yes I’ve concentrated on two big Chinese manufacturers here which are available across the UK high streets. I’ve gone for Innokin and Aspire.

Innokin – Zlide Tank

So first up we’ve got the Innokin Zlide Tank now as you can see it’s a very nice-looking tank. It has a resin style mouthpiece which also features as a child-proof design. Removing the mouthpiece allows the top cap to slide open for refilling. With the mouth piece in place, the cap is locked closed. So it’s top fill and it uses the already available “Z” coils or Zenith Coils which have been used in the Zenith Tank it’s slightly older bigger brother. It’s release to the market from Innokin was not to replace the Zenith tank but rather to offer a cheaper alternative. It has other advances that are not available on the Zenith which is more expensive too such as replaceable glass. This is great should your glass get damaged but for me I particularly like this feature for the ease of cleaning. It has a noticeably tighter airflow than the Zenith which perfectly simulates the inhale you would get from a cigarette.

It comes with the latest 0.48ohm plaques 3d Mouth To Lung MTL coil. So a sub ohm resistance but it’s a mouth to lung coil. That basically means you can use 70% VG which is the smooth high quality e-liquid which is usually just available to cloud chasing devices. It just gives you an extra bit of flavour an extra bit of vapour and like all Innokin tanks it has a coil that slots in and out there’s no threading into the tank needed now that is great simple steps for beginners.

Innokin – Zenith tank

Next up we’ve got the bigger brother to the Zlide The Innokin Zenith tank. I am a huge fan of Nick Salts and by default that makes me huge fan of the Zenith tank. I use it with the point 0.48ohm plex 3d coil but there is a whole variety of others to choose from. I love everything about it the airflow is perfect, it’s a top fill which when you twist to fill it closes off the e-liquids ability to continually saturate the coil. I personally like 50/50 Nic Salts in this tank it’s one of only two tanks that are filled because I regularly use it. It has been out for a while but there is nothing that has come along and improved on what is a great tank.

Innokin – Ares RTA

So to offer some variety we’ve got The Innokin Ares, this is a rebuildable tank atomiser or RTA.

So it offers affordability when it comes to replacing the coils but you need to do a bit of learning to master perfectly setting this one up. I can tell you once you do it is well worth the effort. The Innokin Ares is an RTA for mouth to lung users, this rebuildable tank atomiser means that you have to build your own coils for it so not best suited to first-time vapours when you want ease and convenience. It is a top 5 starter tank for a RDA user who wants to start using MTL devices. So if you’re somebody like myself who’s gone from using RTA’s and building coils and being into that side of vaping it’s a great way to get that level of expectation met with nice smooth mouth to lung vaping. It’s a top fill it’s easy to use and if you’re somebody that’s experienced in usIng an RDA it’s one of the easiest RTA’s or Rd TAS to ever put together. Also this can now be picked up as a vape bargain as it has been around for a while and there are some great deals online.

Aspire – Nautilus X tank

Sticking with the theme of old but gold next up is the Aspire Nautilus X tank. Now the Nautilus X tank when it came out was lauded for the technology that it used with its quills it had a leak proof top fill design and it’s still going strong today it’s I’d say it’s a few years old and it’s still a very good option to go for if you’re looking for something small in mouth to lung for a box mod or an upgraded tank from something you’ve got already it’s simple to use the airflow it’s a nice tight draw the coils are easy to come across. Aspire launched this before TPD in the UK and it was one of the smallest discreet tanks of the time. Featuring unique U-Tech coil technology this was a big deal for flavour when it first launched as the U-shaped chamber within the coil allowed vapour to pass the Kanthal coils twice before being inhaled. It was a real champ and is still hard to beat when it comes to MTL flavour.

Aspire Nautilus Mini

Last is a vaping legend the good old trusted in fact very old but still relevant for MTL vaping Aspire Nautilus Mini. You can tell it’s an older tank because it’s got an elongated mouthpiece its bottom fill unlike the rest of these covered. It uses the very popular Aspire “BVC” (Bottom Vertical Coil) Which also for the Vaptio Tyro so still a very current coil today.

With tight airflow it’s a perfect mouth length setup and even though this design has been around for a long long time it’s still hugely popular it does have its drawbacks the fact that there’s a lot of threading going on on the base of the coil to screw into the base of the tank and then you’ve got that threading on the top of the quarter screw into the chimney it can cause issues with cross threading occasionally but at the same time if it wasn’t a great tank it still wouldn’t be relevant now .

All of these tanks are affordable, they’re easy to find and they’re from two of the biggest Chinese manufacturers Innokin and Aspire. Yes there are other MTL tanks available and yes this isn’t an exhaustive list of easy to find tanks. However I really think that these tanks are to be seriously considered. Top 5 Dessert Vapes of 2019

So we’re looking at my Top 5 Dessert Based Vapes reimagined in 2019. So first up we have:

DRS – NY cheesecake

DRS or dead rabbit society “white series” NY cheesecake now make no mistake the title of this juice is exactly what it is it’s a beautiful luxurious cheesecake from New York and it is stunning. It’s a 70% VG and I’m a huge fan, possibly the best bit about doing reviews is I have to try it right now.

Straight up “That is Cheesecake” it’s a mouthful of salivating dessert. Every element is there. It is sweet on the inhale and then you are left with the richness of the biscuit base. Very well balanced, that is a blind taste test winner you would just know that is cheesecake. 100% Authentic New York cheesecake if anybody wants to argue about how nice that is they’re foolish it’s New York cheesecake, you vape it, you know what it is thats amazing just check it out get it.

Humble Pie – Danish Custard

Next up we’ve got Danish Custard from Humble Pie this is what custard vapes are about this is a stunning cinnamon based custard it smells divine [Que heavenly music] Ok I need to be honest I’ve been vaping these e-liquids for a while now and can tell you without shadow of a doubt this is the ultimate custard. I have used this as an all day vape, I’ve vaped it for five days straight without even moving on to another juice I’ve gone through bottles of it since it was released and it’s because it is phenomenal Danish custard from humble pie. This is custard to the max it’s that good that if this went out of production I think I’ve only have one option and that would be to walk to every single bakery and get them to slam gallons of custard into my mouth until I was satisfied. Obviously what would happen in that situation would be I’d get even fatter. I’d be probably quite ill because custard isn’t the most nourishment you can get from a single meal and I think I’d be depressed so please listen Humble Pie don’t ever drop this yeah.

Baker’s Fog – Sticky toffee pudding

So next up we’ve got Sticky Toffee Pudding from Baker’s Fog now sticky toffee pudding is one of those that if you go to a restaurant and they’ve got that in their desserts menu you’re gonna pick it. You know you shouldn’t order it,you’ve already eaten too much but how can you pass up a good Sticky Toffee Pudding. Generally you’re gonna go sticky toffee pudding yes please get in my mouth and that’s the feeling I get when I’m vaping on this beast from Baker’s Fog, it’s absolutely stunning it smells like sticky toffee pudding and when you inhale it you’ve got a very sweet toffee sauce and silky smooth taste of sponge and spice you’ve got a definite pudding flavour. The thing I love about this e-liquid is how they have balances a smooth vanilla custard within such a complex flavour profile.

Copped – (Armstrong) Billionaire Shortbread

Next up billionaire shortbread oh yes please Armstrong from Copped. This is a biscuit heavy caramel chocolate shortbread. It is rich in buttery smooth biscuit which lingers after you have vaped making you feel like you’ve been piling on the pounds it’s so realistic. You do get a sweet caramel but unlike others the sweet caramel is not the focus. Thats what I love about this flavour it is quite unique. I like the packaging it’s a 70 percent VG. It’s great for dripping and I’m a fan.

Wonutz – Glazed Apple Strudel

I love dessert vapes and the four so far have made it because they are incredible but what finishes off my top five. Well it is a bit of a surprise even for me as I would unlikely go out and buy this had I not had the opportunity to try. Thats mainly because it is not a dessert I would put at the top of my list at a restaurant. Ok lets get to it Number One is Wonutz Glazed Apple Strudel I love every single flavour on the Wonutz, my original favourite was coffee caramel but this one this has become a go-to flavour. The Apple is spot-on it’s a cooking Apple Tick the strudel it’s as if you’ve got pastry in your mouth the warms that you get from dripping it is just divine it brings the pastry notes to like. If you closed your eyes and got a wiff of this blow past you, you would be convinced somebody is cooking Apple Strudel. When you inhale you get a beautiful sweetness, it isn’t a rich sweetness but definitely enough to represent the sugary glaze. What this has over the previous four is the scent is even better than the previous four. It is so accurate that the guys at Wonutz should be doing more with this, why don’t they make car fresheners of this scent.

How To Perfectly Wick your RDA Coils

How do I like to Wick an RDA? What’s my favourite method? what cotton do I like to use? I get many questions across YouTube and Instagram relating to my RDA’s I thought I would try and answer some of those key questions in an attempt to help you get started with wicking an RDA.

First of all there are a few things you will need. You need Tweezers to help you with the cotton, Scissors to cut the cotton and you need some vape Cotton. I’ve got my two favourite cotton choices at the moment we have some SQUIDOODE Doode Wick which is cotton sheet and we’ve got Cotton Bacon prime.

First let’s do one coil with cotton bacon and the second coil with a “Scottish roll” of dude wick just as an example. So I’ve got a strip of cotton bacon

Here is a fresh clump of cotton straight from the pack

Now I’m not going to need the whole of that for this one RDA what I’m gonna do is break it down and get it ready so I’m gonna peel off a strand about yay big yay thickness yeah is my favourite type of measurement because it means that I don’t have to be absolutely specific it’s yay big. Or roughly the size I think it should be it’s a yay size. So I now have enough for both sides of the RDA.

Separating a yay big piece of cotton

Now I’ve got my piece of cotton that looks just right was the size of the coil and RDA i’m going to cut the length right in the middle giving me two pieces the same length.

Next take one of your lengths and you need to twist the end of the cotton to help feed it through the coil. So slide through the coil until the cotton meets you on the other side then using tweezers, pull through the other side oh there we go.

The pull shouldn’t be be too tight, if it’s too tight you’re going to manipulate the shape of your coil and also restrict airflow which then will restrict flavour which means you singe the cotton. So if it is being forced through then you have too much cotton, you are best taking a bit away from your measurement of yay big.

Ok so im through and I am happy with the thickness of cotton for my coil. So Ive pulled the cotton all the way through, leaving enough hanging over the edge of my RDA so I cut trim it nicely to size.

Once we’ve done our first cut let’s turn to the other and repeat the cut, so just the overhanging cotton over the RDA. This should now start to look tidier.

We want The cotton to sit on the floor of the RDA some have juice wells so it’s important we get our tweezers and persuade the cotton to sit inside. Now that its tucked in it will help saturate up through and the e-liquid will run up the cotton and inside the coil. We want the cotton you tuck in to be sat to the sides of the RDA so you’ve got air flow being able to come through the air holes and underneath the coil or round the coil. You don’t want loads of cotton in the base of the RDA just enough to saturate. So I am happy with the first side now to spin around and repeat.

Now thats one side of my RDA done, In essence thats complete if you are running a single coil. However I want to show you how to wick your RDA with Doode Wick’s premium cotton in a Scottish roll method. Some will prefer this cotton as it states it has Increased Durability, it’s 100% natural premium cotton but its going to take a bit more effort for you to use it. Each package contains six (6) 2.25″ x 2.25″ sheets.

What you’ll realise quite quickly is that this Scottish roll method is essentially what cotton bacon have already done on your behalf. Which is why it’s a nice simple cotton to use but maybe you don’t have that available in your local vape store and you have to do the work yourself. Well here goes. In the Doode Wick tin we are going to take one flat sheet.

We want to cut this sheet in half

what we now need to do with the half we intend to use is strip the outer layers off either side. So that we are left with just the cotton from inside.

Next up we need to gently pinch and pull to stretch this cotton fibre gently loosening as you pinch and pull side ways with the cotton vertical in your hands. You don’t need to stretch it a lot you just need to spread it spread the wealth like you would in a more communist society. You should end up with nearly a third extra width on the edge you cut.

So now it will have the benefit of soaking up more liquid hence more flavour more enjoyable to vape. Ok I’m now going to roll it. Now the method is like rolling a cigarette, we take it so the length is horizontal and roll it in to a tube.

There we go that’s nice that’s loose cotton that’s rolled up, now I’m just gonna twist the end to make it feed through the coil.

Essentially what you’ve got with the Scottish roll method should be a tube of loose cotton fibre that will soak up like the e-liquid from the base of the RDA and feed it through the coil. So lets get the cotton wicked in the coil. Feed it through as we did before, a nice tight twist on the cotton to start off the process. Don’t overly worry about that twist as we are going to cut that piece of cotton off.

If you need tweezers at this point thats fine. Gently pull the cotton through and then remember the earlier steps. We are going to cut off whats over hanging and tuck it in to the base of the RDA. ensuring it allows airflow beneath the coils. One important point to consider before cutting is the depth of your RDA, if you have a juice well then you must leave a bit more length to ensure the cotton is touching the base of the well.

So thats me re-wicked and making sure not to obscure the airflows ability to go around the coil. The cotton is nice and loose in there. Not my normal set up but for the purpose of showing you there is my two different types of cotton two different types of wicking and they do exactly the same task . So if you cant get hold of a quick and easy Cotton Bacon or just fancy trying something a bit different then give this a go.

So cloud check time with beautiful fresh cotton fresh coils and some lovely orange marmalade from the Jam Vape Co today couldn’t get any better could it no. I mean I could win the lottery that would make it better but will it happen no..

Top 5 Easy To Use Starter Kits

I’m looking at what I believe are the top 5 pen style devices on the market right now without further ado in number 5.

The Eleaf Ijust3

The Eleaf Ijust3 yes it’s been on sale for a while now but it is one of the best-selling sub-ohm style pen devices. It’s capable of 80 watts of output which is great for a sub-ohm device. It uses the superb Ello Dura tank, which if you’re into flavour and vapour production it’s a good choice. It comes with two different types of coils. The HW-N and HW-M atomiser/coil heads are constructed using different styles of mesh. The traditional coil is replaced with pieces of kanthal with a series of holes, this provides a much bigger surface area allowing for better flavour and bigger clouds. The battery capacity is a huge 3000mAh so sub-ohm all day and it’s a very simple and easy bit of kit to use. So to wrap up on the Eleaf Ijust3 It looks great it gives you a nice sub ohm vape with full flavoured thick vapour. If you want something that’s simple as a sub own device look no further than the Eleaf Ijust3 very accessible and also relatively pocket friendly.

The Aspire Pockex

in four of my top 5 pen style devices on the market at the moment we have this Aspire Pockex. This is a great bit of kit it’s a nice small design it’s what is referred to as a “AIO” or all-in-one it’s it’s a really really nice vape it comes with a sub ohm coil 0.6ohm and you can use 1.2 ohm coils. These coils are very different in appeal. If you want a slightly tighter draw then having a 0.6ohm coil is the best of you. It gives this device the benefit of being able to use a 70% VG juice (so nice smooth and flavoured vapes). A lot of mouths lung devices can now manage a higher VG e-liquid but this is one of the first on the market to be able to offer you a mouth to lungs vape with a sub ohm resistance coil. If you prefer a 50/50 Nic Salt then perhaps you are going to prefer the 1.2ohm coil. The Aspire Pockex has a 1500mAh battery capacity which for a month long device is excellent. Also it’s got a leak resistant top fill method where you basically unscrew the top of the tank, pour your coil out with it and that’s your juice reservoir in there so it’s relatively mess-free. Basically the perfect vape for beginners and those who want minimal fuss.

The Innokin Plexar

So in third we’ve got the Innokin Plexar, now the Plexar is a really new device to the market. It comes with the self titled Plex tank which is one of my favourite for flavours. The Plex tank utilises Innokin’s PLEX3D mesh technology in order to provide amazing flavour and cloud production. The coils heat up and cool down quicker than other types of coils seen on the market which helps them to perform for longer. The Plexar takes a single external battery but can take two different powered sizes 20700/18650 if you choose to run the device with a 18650 you can use the battery sleeve that comes in the box.

The Innokin Plexar is offering something a bit different in a pen vape. Its cloud performance for low nicotine. It’s nice, it’s accessible and simple the Plexar starter kit is a simple no complicated programs or fancy options yet still its an excellent vape pen. Excellent for new vapers and for those of you simply looking for convenience.

My Number Two in the current best pen style device on the market at the moment is a tricky one. Ive really thought about this market of who pen vapes are for and what style of vaping they are likely to want. So many things come in to the desirability of what should be high up on this list but here goes. Mouth to Lung vapers that cigarette style of inhaling you are going to love this.

The Innokin Endura T18 II (2)

Number 2 is the Innokin Endura T18 II (2) this really does take it one step further as a starter kit for anybody looking to Mouth To Lung MTL this is your number one go to. It’s got adjustable airflow, it’s got three different wattage settings. Simply hold the oversized firing button until the LED light cycles. The first LED Light is 10.5W, the centre LED light is 12W, and finally the last LED light is 13.5W.

It’s got a 1300mAh battery built in which is more than adequate for a mouth to lung device to last you all day. It uses the pre-existing Endura T 18 coils which is obviously beneficial when it comes to accessibility. So if you’ve got a Endura T18 and you are due a upgrade this is the device for you. Oh and I think I’ve mentioned in another post possible the best feature is it comes with a magnetic top cap to keep the dust out. It might not seem that cool but it quickly turns in to one of those fidgets.

Finally my Number 1

The Vaptio Tyro

My number one easy to use pen style starter kit is the Vaptio Tyro. This is such a great starter pen, I love this bit of kit it looks great, it looks simple, it looks effective. Yet it’s got a unique air flow option, it’s got mess free top filling but the best thing about it is the fact that it gives you the best of both worlds. It offers such broad appeal it can satisfy MTL and DTL vapers. You can use it as a sub ohm device where you direct inhale or you can use it as a mouth to lung device where you inhale as you would with a cigarette. All you have to do is choose the correct coil and the right airflow. This is really a broad appeal based on the fact it can accept a variety of coils. The 1.6 ohm coil with a wide airflow is great for MTL 50/50 nic salt e-liquids.

You can also use the 0.7ohm coil with thicker e-liquids pretty much up to 70% VG. This is my preferred set up and suits DTL vaping when the airflow is wide open you can sip a smooth cloud, but with a little bit less airflow you get a nice tight but yet flavoursome and also relatively vape heavy MTL vape.

I just love everything about it it’s it’s simple its effective but it it’s got lots of options when it comes to airflow and can open up choices to you in liquids that you might want to try. Simply ensure you have the right coil and you can vape a huge range of e-liquids. This is thanks to the Aspire Nautilus coils which are readily available in pretty much every vape store out there I personally really like the point 0.7ohm Nautilus coil and that’s what I generally use in this device.

The Vaptio Tyro has a 1,300mAh (milliamp) battery capacity which is enough to see you through the day without worrying about charging.

So these are my best top five pen style devices that are easy to use and available on the market at this moment in time. Each one of these devices really does deserve to be featured because they all give you what you’re looking for if you’re looking for a simple yet effective vape.

2019 – The Year Of MTL Vaping

Out with the old and in with the old.. I mean mouth to lung (MTL) vaping is seeing something of a renaissance recently. Yes mouth to lung vaping is essentially what everybody does when they stop smoking as it is the same type of inhale as done with smoking. However generally since 2013 we saw people progress to direct to lung (DTL) Thats the full inhale like taking in a breath of fresh air but instead sucking on a thick cloud of flavoured vapour and blowing it out like a steam train.

Perhaps the reason behind the change is the innovation in vape technology. Mouth to lung devices have essentially bought vapours like myself back full circle to mouth to lung. I love flavour, I love not smoking yet I still depend on nicotine to keep me off cigarettes.

I’ve got a few devices in front of me from what I think are the watts hot list of mouth to lung devices.

Some are old to appeal to bargain hunters who love a great deal and some are new but they are all great in todays market where you can enjoy Nic Salt E-liquids.

The Aspire NX 30 Rover kit

First up The Aspire NX 30 Rover kit this was released with their latest tank at the time the Aspire Nautilus X. Renowned at the time for being able to vape up to a seventy percent VG e-liquid, so it gave mouth to lung vapours a bigger opportunity to enjoy a bigger range of juice which had previously only been suitable to cloud chasing tans or RDA’s. It has a 2000mAh (milli amp hour) battery and 30 watts of vaping power. It was a great kit when it came out and it’s still a great kit today, especially if you can pic it up discounted. This was ground zero for the vaping revolution, that Renaissance that re-establishment of mouth to lung vaping.

The Innokin Endura T18II

Next up we’ve got the Innokin Endura T18II This is the latest version of the already well-established and best-selling T18 line. This has changed from the original Endura T18 considerably.

It features adjustable airflow, you’ve got three different output settings, you’ve got a bigger battery life. The battery on this one is 1300 mAh. With regards to power you can pick between ten and a half, twelve and thirteen and a half watts. It also comes a very nifty magnetic top cap which is great for keeping fluff and dirt out of the mouth piece.

The Vaptio Tyro

How about another great Mouth To Lung kit. Well i’ve got the Vaptio Tyro Vaptio are a smaller manufacturer than the likes of Innokin and Aspire. it carries a large 1500mAh integrated battery. Something you will find hard to believe when you see the quality of this device. I believe it to be one of the best if not the best crossover pen style device I’ve ever used the Vaptio Tyro is capable of mouths to lung vaping or Direct To Lung depending on the coil that you put choose.

The Vaptio Tyro gives you more options to suit you, saving you from buying two devices for two styles. One of the things that is bound to go down well with the Vaptio Tyro is that you can use already well-established Aspire Nautilus coils so you can be sure of your local vape shop stocking your coils. It’s got a unique airflow adjustable section which essentially you twist the tank whilst holding the the battery part of the device and you adjust your airflow that way.

The Innokin Mini Zenith D22 Kit

No scrap that.. so curve ball next up we’ve got the Innokin Zenith tank which is available as a kit called The Innokin Mini Zenith D22 Kit but.. I thought this would be a great opportunity to show you it in all it’s glory by introducing my all day carry which is what started of as the kit but I loved the tank so much I PUT IT ON MY FAVOURITE MOD. I have to say it really is my favourite (bar none) there I said it.. It’s my favourite mouth to lung tank ever in existence.

The flavour is of sub own quality, the performance is superb, everything about it is stunning. Innokin sell the tank on it’s own or you can buy it with a nice matchy matchy kit when you buy the Innokin Coolfire. I’ve got mine screwed on top of a Dot75 watt by Dot Mod. I love this set up, my favourite mod and tank together. You’ve got multiple coil options available to suit your taste you have 0.5ohm 0.8ohm or a 1.6ohm I personally prefer the 0.8ohm but you do you. I like my 0.8ohm at 15 watts it’s a decent amount of vapour for a mouth to lung device but the flavour is absolutely spot-on.

The Innokin EQ

Then you’ve got pod systems I’ve got pod systems represented by both the Innokin EQ and Innokin DV pod. Both pod systems are giving mouth to lung its swagger it really is you’re getting a quality amount of vapour in a mouth to lung context. Firstly the Innokin EQ which has a 800mAh of battery life, 2ml juice capacity, and a dual power mode. The EQ has a single oversized firing button that allows the user to activate boost mode, which boosts the power output from the standard 13.5W to a boosted 15.5W.

The Innokin DV

Finally the Innokin DV now this tiny vape device has a built in 500mAh rechargeable battery. The wattage output can be changed between 12-15W in single watt increments by holding down the adjustment button. The Innokin DV does have a small battery but it is an extremely portable pod system with an amazing mesh coil that provides great flavour in a tiny package.

You’re getting small subtle stealth type devices that are easily accessible and absolutely excellent to use. Simple and effective.. Everything you need, all of these devices can be for first-time vapours and for people like myself who want something different from their sub-ohm experience.

These aren’t the only devices that have made mouth to lung hot again. There are many other great and worthy devices but this is a short list so apologies for those that didn’t make my list. Mouth to lung.. that cigarette style of vaping, is at its best when it comes to devices like this and juice options have never been so accessible. You can now use high PG or high VG e-liquid by just selecting the right coil for how you like to vape.

Top 5 Pod Systems

Released in 2018 and can now be picked up cheap

Firstly, I’m a big big fan of pod systems. They come in many different shapes and sizes. You’ve got different power delivery set by the unit and varied airflow options. There are also different battery sizes available so pinning down my top five pod systems currently has not been easy but I’ve managed to do it.

Eleaf iCard

I’ve got the Eleaf iCard which is a lovely little device, one that I’d recommend for first-time adopters. It comes with a 1.2 ohm coil and this device is definitely better with slightly thinner juice so we’re talking about slightly more on the PG side than the VG side I wouldn’t want to put more than a 50/50 ratio in this pod.

Now I think it performs best at about 60% PG. It gives you excellent flavour, it’s simple to use and the Eleaf iCard comes in many different colour ways.

Smoking Vapour MI One

I’ve got the Smoking Vapour MI One in front of me it comes with a 0.6 ohm coil. So it’s a sub ohm (below 1.0 ohm) but it’s not a sub own device necessarily I’d still rate it as a mouth to lung device. It’s easy to fill, you’ve got a button on the top you’ve got many many different options of colour. I think it’s a really lovely little device. It performs and it’s really discreet.

The Aspire Spryte

This device really does surprise me with just how well it performs. It uses a classic coil type the BVC coil head by Aspire. The latest version of that coil is included and thats a 1.2 ohm NIC salt BVC coil. That coil can be found in situ, you get such good flavour again a bit like the iCard I would look at it as a more 60 percent PG juice device rather than getting slightly more VG heavy. The Aspire Spryte really does give you great flavour it’s easy to use, its easy to fill and its a really enjoyable bit of kit.

The Aspire Breeze 2

I have the newer version the Aspire Breeze 2 and next to it The Aspire Breeze. It’s easy to fill and has a one thousand mAh battery which is the biggest out of any of the devices on the table. It’s simple in every way but yet gives you a really nice vape. I personally prefer using the 0.6 ohm coil. Again it’s a “sub ohm coil” but I use it more as a mouth to lung device with the benefit of thicker vape and flavour. It wicks higher VG e-liquids so I’d say you can get away with set up to 70 percent VG with the Breeze and the Breeze 2 You get good flavour and a warm vape. There are also 1ohm coils available and if you wanted to use a thinner e-liquid it will be fine with that. I tend to use a 60% VG in the Breeze to get a really nice vape.

The Innokin EQ

The EQ pod system this has got two different modes you’ve got your standard mode of 13.5 watt output and you’ve got the boost mode which is a 15.5 watt output I think a 50/50 VG PG ratio juice is perfect for this device. Again it’s easy to fill and unlike the other ones the coil is built into the pod, which is also the mouthpiece. So when the coil is burnt or the flavour fades you then dispose of the whole pod. It comes with a slightly different coil as well, it comes with a mesh coil.

1 First place is the Innokin EQ

I have been absolutely blown away by just how well The Innokin EQ performs it’s again simple to fill easy to use it’s very much “mess-free” because you have a disposable pod. I love that it has two different power modes you’ve got standard and boost that is something that is unique and stands out.
