Mark V Spitfire. by Willard Womack Via Flickr: The Air Force did fly British built aircraft. Such as this Photo;Recon Spitfire. This one is no long fit for missions as a, “ War Weary” plane. Aircraft, which were still flyable but not fit for combat were classified as War Weary, and replaced. WW painted on the vertical fin, and then they were often used in some other capacity.

Interestingly, the latest Baltic Air Policing intercept by Royal Air Force Eurofighter Typhoons involved Russian Navy Su-27 ‘Red 93’/RF-33749 that performed an ‘unsafe’ intercept of USAF RC-135U on June 19, 2017. Note the 'Guards’ badge and individual name 'Aleksandr Klubov’. https://t.co/yjuGYwquER
The Russian jet is a Su-27P FLANKER-B version, formerly '29 Red’, with the construction number 36911031105. It’s based in Kaliningrad with the 689th Guards Fighter Aviation Regiment and is one of a handful of Baltic Fleet aircraft with individual names applied. https://t.co/W26I2MScuQ
