(I think) The reason doctor who feel so unevenly paced and oddly timed now is because of Disney’s eight (8) episodes per season thing. I hate it. It doesn’t work for any show (for example Percy Jackson, I hadn’t read the books at the time I watched the show and it still felt off and like I was missing something and in the last couple episodes everything was happening so fast it was hard to keep track because the writers realised they needed to fit half the book into two (2) forty (40) minute episodes. I literally said to myself after the first couple episodes that I could stop watching now and just never care again (that was not the case but my point still stands that it is paced weirdly and it makes it hard to watch)).
It especially doesn’t work with a show like doctor who where you need enough time for a plot per episode, a main series plot, exploring the doctors new characters and emotions as well as adding in reoccurring characteristics from the doctor, exploring the companions characteristics and how they coincide with the doctors, building the companions history and finding a way to show their history, building the companions relationship and trust with the doctors, adding some reoccurring villains and characters, etc, it doesn’t work in eight (8) forty (40) minute episodes. There’s just not enough time (ironic for a show like doctor who). What ends up happening is they spend the first 4-5 episodes introducing the doctor and companion and their relationship and while hinting at the grand plot and then the next 1-2 episodes are the doctor and companions coexisting comfortably and trusting each other as the threat of the grand plot gets bigger, then in the last two (2) episodes everything is just crammed in and characters that don’t need to be there are just lazily written off (Belinda) so they can save the screen time for the more important things plot wise, which is why things like the omega getting defeated on 5 seconds or Belinda spending half the episode in a box happen.
It also brings another problem in doctor who which is that eight (8) episodes aren’t enough to really connect with a companion and sixteen (16) aren’t enough to connect with a doctor which is why very few people will be saying that Ncuti, Millie or Varada are their favourite.
Disney, BBC, please scrap this. It doesn’t work. Just stop.

When Gatwa Who started, it was pitched as such a fresh start, such a good jumping-on point that it wasn't series 14 of New Who, it was series 1 of a brand new third incarnation of Doctor Who
Quickly it became, in an arc sense, by far the most continuity-obsessed incarnation of modern Who. And there's a superfan tendency to laugh and celebrate this but no, it really is a bad decision to make so much of the emotional resonance of a show whose ratings are lower than ever, and at a point being pitched to casual fans as a *soft reboot*, depend on characters and story arcs from decades ago. It's an self-destructive decision. At the end of the day, did RTD have any ideas for what he wanted to do with Doctor Who, or did he just have a checklist of fanboy elements he wished he could've included the first time around

Eight episodes is simply not enough for a season of doctor who. You need a mix of different genres, plus whatever arc shit is gonna turn up in the last two episodes. Frank|y 12-13 episodes was sometimes pushing it back during rtd1/moffat days. But 8 does not leave enough space to play around in

ref and ramble below the cut
Did a color edit of my ref so I could play with some neon lights. I had just picked up a new brush pack for Krita and I was very excited to play with some grittier textures >.> Quite partial to the grayscale on this one as well.
