Places to visit in Mumbai in 3 days | Mumbai itinerary
Places to visit in Mumbai in 3 days | Mumbai itinerary
It is a day before my flight to Mumbai and my mum is panicking from all the news around Covid-19. I try to calm her down, buy all the necessities including an N95 face mask, sanitisers, hand gloves and sleep on it to visit the Bollywood city. I reach the airport early morning and realise the chaos around security measures and with people in double masks, I now wonder is this a good decision to…

Somewhere in September, I realized I have saved enough money to plan a tripto Singapore and so my ordeal started. I put together all the things required for my Singapore trip. The visa came through pretty easily, found cheap tickets on Air Asia (which I regretted later) and applied leaves in my office. Booked hotel only at the last minute because Singapore is freakishly expensive in terms of…

Rishikesh Trip: Lose yourself on the Ghats of Ganga

Planning a trip to the western Indian state of Gujarat wasn’t easy and Junagadh’s name popped up when I was planning my itinerary. Junagadh was the princely state which India and Pakistan fought hard to acquire albeit ultimately came to India. Junagadh is a Gujarati term which translates to “old fort”, given the location of Uperkot Fort in the town. It is the 7th largest city of Gujarat and yet…

Choosing where to stay is a daunting task and yet fulfilling when the places stand up to your expectations. This was the case with me, I stayed in Aparthotel Adagio, a part of the Accor group. The hotel turned out to be perfect as I expected, more on that below. If you’re planning to visit Vienna for 2 days or more, you’ll need a great place to crash in this beautiful city. I’ve collaborated with seasoned bloggers about their preferred choice on the best places to stay in Vienna.
Hang on with me when I take you through my recommendation about the best place to stay in Vienna, Austria.
Don’t miss my Vienna Travel Guide!
Places to stay in Vienna for all the budgets
1. Aparthotel Adagio Vienna City
Aparthotel Adagio is based on the theme of home away from home and it completely justifies the theme. Spacious room size with a huge wardrobe and space for iron rod and stand made my stay comfortable. The in-room mini kitchen facility stood out for me. The kitchen was equipped with all the amenities I could ask for, microwave, induction stove, pans, and all the basic cutlery. So, the hotel definitely pans out to be one of the best places to stay in Vienna.
A four-star hotel in the prime location of Innere Stadt district with the connectivity of trams and subway. If you plan to book the hotel, take a high-floor room – that is if not afraid of heights – as the view from there is just mesmerizing. If you like to walk in the city, then you can walk to Saint Stephen’s Cathedral in no more than 15 minutes. The Belvedere Palace can be reached in under 20 minutes by subway and tram.
Book the hotel and also read reviews of the guests who stayed here – Booking.com
2. Le Meridien Vienna
I loved my stay at Le Meridien and I recommend it as one of the best places to stay in Vienna. I have stayed at other Le Meridien properties, and as an SPG Gold member, I always look for Starwood properties when traveling. With a prepaid rate, I paid less than $150 USD per night for a spacious room in this five-star luxury hotel. My room was extremely comfortable, with all the amenities I needed for a working vacation. The on-site Champagne Bar is incredibly popular, and the breakfast looked pretty delicious as well. I was too busy sampling Sacher Torte and schnitzel to try the gym and swimming pool, but they are available for the more conscientious traveler.
With only a short time to explore Vienna, I can’t think of a better location. Le Meridien is right on Opernring, less than five minutes walk from the Vienna Opera House. Some of Vienna’s best attractions, including Naschmarkt, Museumsquartier, Mariahilfer Strasse and Hofburg Palace, are all within ten minutes walk of the hotel. Best of all, as a solo female traveler, I felt incredibly safe walking around this neighborhood, even at night. I did not hesitate to pop out for a late night kabob or just stroll the streets at night taking in the Viennese culture.

3. The Ruby Sofie Hotel
Our favorite place to stay in Vienna is the Ruby Sofie Hotel Vienna. It’s conveniently located near the Landstraße subway, right as you get off the CAT. So after a long flight, it’s so convenient to have a place that’s a stone’s throw from the station. Also, perfect when you need to rush back to the airport to catch that flight out! Another perk is that it’s so close to everything you want to visit, whether its Vienna’s famous landmarks or the business district if you’re here for work. It’s in a very safe location, even walking around at night, we never felt like we were in any danger.
The Ruby Hotels chain pride themselves on what they call ‘lean luxury’. Focusing on the important things travelers look for and doing away with anything superficial. The rooms are perfectly sized with a bed and sink in the main room, and the bathroom and shower tucked away neatly. In each room, they also include a speaker to play your music, and a piece of vintage furniture, making it feel even cooler.
Our favorite feature was that the room came with a complimentary smartphone, with data so you can roam the city freely, without worrying about getting lost. It’s also a great way to keep in touch with friends if you don’t have data in the country.
The stay at the Ruby Sofie hotel also includes a delicious breakfast in the main lounge. The buffet features locally-sourced and organic ingredients, and it was the perfect way to start our days. The main lounge is also where you can grab a drink for happy hour, something that they host daily. And you can even catch some live music shows on specific days.
Other fun amenities include a sun deck for the summer months, a meditation room with yoga mats, and complimentary coffee and tea. They also have a fun vending machine on each floor, in case you need some late-night munchies!
Overall, we adored our stay at Ruby Sofie Hotel Vienna. The hotel has everything you need to have an amazing time in the city making it one of the best places to stay in Vienna.

4. Hotel Kaiserhof
When it comes to choosing a hotel for your stay in Vienna, I recommend the 4.5* Hotel Kaiserhof. From the minute I set foot inside the hotel on my first visit to Vienna, I felt at home thanks to the friendly, welcoming staff and the homely atmosphere.
The Kaiserhof is located on Frankenberggasse, a quiet street just a ten-minute walk from the Vienna State Opera and the Old Town.  There are public transport options nearby for those who’d rather not walk to the city center and a number of restaurants in the area.
Housed in an elegant late-19th-century building, the hotel’s rooms are well equipped with free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, and tea and coffee makers.  With comfortable beds and luxurious bathroom facilities, the Kaiserhof is the ideal home away from home.
Included in the nightly rate is a full buffet breakfast and when I say full, I mean ‘the works’! The breakfast offering was one of the best I have experienced in Europe.
Other facilities at the hotel include a bar and sunroom, exercise room and sauna but, for me, the caring nature and genuine interest shown to guests by the staff is what sets the Kaiserhof apart. If luxury is your ring, then Kaiserhof is truly one of the best places to stay in Vienna.

5. Ibis Wien Hauptbahnhof
This hotel is a great “affordable luxury” option in Vienna because it’s modern, comfortable & conveniently located. The Ibis Hotel Wien Hauptbahnhof has all the modern amenities you’ll need while traveling. That includes high-speed Wi-Fi, air-conditioning, soundproof rooms, blackout curtains, and even a desk! The hotel was built in 2017…so it’s practically brand new. It will impress those who appreciate contemporary design features. Also, the beds were so comfortable!
Source
Another great feature of this hotel is the location. It’s located right off of the Vienna Central Station in the trendy Wieden neighborhood. Wieden is popular among university students because it is home to Vienna’s University of Technology. At the Ibis Hotel Wien Hauptbahnhof, you’ll only be a 10 minutes walk from Belvedere Palace and a 20-minute walk from the beautiful Karlskirche church. While the hotel is clean, modern and well located, I was most impressed with how helpful and courteous the staff was. I remember that they went out of their way to help us navigate public transportation. BONUS: Check out is at 12:00 PM but they also offer reasonably priced late check out options!
IBIS is always my preferred choice to stay anywhere. So I recommend choosing IBIS as one of the best places to stay in Vienna.

6. Hotel Beethoven
Hotel Beethoven is a trendy, luxury hotel perfectly located within walking distance to many of the top attractions. Whether you are a female traveling solo or a family visiting Vienna with kids, safety is a top priority, and Hotel Beethoven’s location on a quiet, safe street will set your mind at ease during your stay. The hotel is bright and colorful and offers complimentary amenities that will make you feel like a valued guest.
The breakfast, which is included in your stay is plentiful and delicious. There is a bar downstairs where you can purchase alcoholic drinks and mingle with other travelers. They also offer a complimentary coffee bar 24 hours a day. In the rooms, they even include a full-size Vienna chocolate bar as a welcoming gift. The rooms are beautifully decorated and spacious. Ours even had a separate shower and a large soaker tub in the bathroom. But the best thing about Hotel Beethoven is its location. It’s just a three-minute walk to the popular Naschmarkt where you can grab a meal or buy fresh fruit to snack on while you are sightseeing. The Vienna Opera House is located just across the street, about a 5-minute walk from the hotel. You’ll find a metro station located there, as well, which is an ideal way to get around the city quickly and efficiently. This is especially beneficial if you are only in Vienna for a day or two. Hotel Beethoven is one of the best places to stay in Vienna.

7. 25hours Hotel MuseumQuartier
The 25hours Hotel MuseumQuartier is a chain hotel that has several locations throughout Europe. When you first enter the property, you’ll soon realize that they really pay attention to every minute detail in their furnishing and decor. The one in Vienna features vibrant colors alongside unique vintage furniture (The eclectic theme runs throughout all corners of the property including the lifts!) There will never be any dull moment while at the hotel, I promise!
Located at Volkstheater Station in Vienna where you can find a plethora of transport options a short walk away. Especially for solo travelers where public transport will help bring the costs down, the ability to get to almost anywhere from the hotel was a plus. Furthermore, the property, though in a quieter area of Vienna, is not too dodgy and you’ll take bright wide pedestrian paths alongside the road to get there.
Sometimes when traveling alone gets a little too mundane, your moods would instantly brighten up when you enter the room filled with colorful murals designed by Berlin-based illustrator Olaf Hayek. When the night gets lonely, you could also head up to the rooftop bar. The atmosphere at the rooftop bar was great and you’ll get to enjoy an amazing night view of the city of Vienna. Since it is located within the property itself, you don’t have to worry about drinking a little more than usual; you can easily head back to your rooms even till its past late. That certainly helps to manage safety concerns for solo female travelers when staying way past bedtime and having to hail cabs that hopefully drive you safely back to your accommodation.
Facilities at the 25hours hotel include a gym as well as a sauna at the basement. Entrance is complimentary for all guests and you can even collect towels for your use at the gym. Even if you don’t need the gym or sauna, head down to take a look at the beautiful area and perhaps grab a cup of tea before you head back to your room. In the morning, the buffet-style breakfast at The Foodmakers is also of top-notch quality (an additional 16 euros is chargeable for breakfast). Choose from a wide selection of bread, cheese, cereals, savory food like sausages and bacon. There is even an entire honeycomb for guests’ consumption.
All in all, even though the hotel may be a little pricier than most boutique hotels, its location away from the hustle and bustle of Vienna alongside the variety of fun and quirky elements in its décor would be a great fit for solo travelers who still want to pamper themselves! 25hours Hotel MuseumQuartier is one of the best places to stay in Vienna.

8. Hostel Ruthensteiner
Vienna is one of the best European cities to live in and we wanted to experience the same during our stay. So, we opted to stay in a hostel instead of a hotel, just to be able to meet more likeminded travelers and locals alike to get a taste of the local living. It was indeed a great idea! We stayed at Hostel Ruthensteiner, which was just a couple of minutes walking distance from the Westbahnoff Station. Westbahnoff is in the Mariahilf district, and other than being a bustling locality due to the railway station, it is also a great area to stay while exploring the city. It’s a central area in Vienna, making all key tourist attractions extremely accessible. The vicinity has great eateries, popular food chains, supermarkets, and street food options.
youtube
The hostel is a spacious and cozy and beautiful place set up with a fun vibe and maximum amenities for young travelers. There are rooms for 4, 8, 10 with shared bathrooms. Board games, keyboard, kitchen, outdoor seating, books, etc. along with a range of beers and snacks and a plush breakfast spread are available at the property. The hostel also runs volunteer programs for travelers which make the experience a memorable. Volunteers get to cook meals for the guests, thus, promoting the local culture of where they hail from. There are many other activities and sightseeing options available along with great tips at the reception. In summers and peak seasons, many in-house community activities are conducted here. Finding the perfect accommodation is one of the key ingredients to having a great holiday. After all, it’s always great to come back to a happy place after a long day of exploring.  Which is exactly why Hostel Ruthensteiner in Vienna is one of the best places to stay in Vienna while exploring the city!

9. Hotel Grand Ferdinand
The Hotel Grand Ferdinand is a boutique hotel right on the famous Ring Road, about a five-minute walk from the opera house.  Although it is a relatively new hotel, it is designed in a grand traditional style and the rooms are comfortable and elegant.  There is a schnitzel restaurant on the ground floor where you can see the meals being prepared in their open kitchen and you can even take a class in preparing schnitzel or strudel.  However, the highlight is the Grande Etage on the top floor.
There is a small pool right on the roof’s edge, an outdoor bar and restaurant area with incredible views over the rooftops of Vienna, and an indoor bar and restaurant with large windows giving more views. You might not regret to choose Grand Ferdinand as the best place to stay in Vienna.
Breakfast is served in this restaurant as well – a wonderful way to start the day.  The Grande Etage floor is only open to guests and members, so it is a special treat to spend some time over a gourmet meal and/ or a glass of wine (or soda) enjoying the views.

10. Airbnb/ Home-stays
There is always the option to stay in Airbnb or home-stays when we can’t find an appropriate hotel or hostel. I have stayed in an Airbnb a couple of times, and I loved it every time. I love the feeling of staying in a home in a new destination, the freedom too. The homes in Airbnb are usually in the city and suitable for a family or a group of friends. The plus point is that the cost-effectiveness of the homes, they can vary from budget to luxury. Next time when you travel to Vienna, try an Airbnb.
So, these are my recommendations about the best places to stay in Vienna for a few days or more.

Visit Diu to experience tranquil beaches, Portuguese history, and a calm quaint town. This union territory of India has the perfect balance of beaches with a quieter vibe than Goa or Pondicherry. The town is usually known in conjunction with Daman as Daman & Diu, while both are miles apart with a sea in between. Diu is on the west end of Gujarat and Daman is on Southern end. Many told us to skip visiting Diu as there’s “nothing to see“, but we went there anyway and came back content. So, here’s why you should visit Diu, one of the 7 union territories of India. And here are my recommendations about the top places to visit in Diu especially in a day.
Don’t miss my Gujarat travel guide!
What are the Places to visit in Diu in a day | Diu Travel Guide
1. Nagoa Beach
One of the most famous beaches in Diu is the Nagoa beach. The water-based adventure activities including parasailing, jetskiing, boating or even scuba diving make Nagoa beach one of the must-see places to visit in Diu.
Those not interested in adventure activities can enjoy the beach that is comparatively quiet even in the peak season. Just sit back on the clean beach and enjoy the calm sea.
Did you know – Nagoa Beach is horse-shoe shaped!
2. Diu Fort
Located on one end of the Diu island, the Diu Fort is one of the amazing places to visit in Diu. During Portuguese colonial rule in Diu, the fort was built in the 15th century. The fort’s walls are erected in a way that defended the alliance between the Portuguese & Sultan of Gujarat against Mughal war to gain reign here. The inner walls of the Diu Fort still hold the guns used at the time.
The best part of the fort is free entry! The gigantic walls of the Diu Fort offer breathtaking views of the sea & the city as well. The lighthouse at one end of the Fort makes up for a picturesque view.
A walk in the fort from the entry gate to the top will require at least an hour at a slow pace. It was like a walk down the historic lane with a gorgeous view of the blue sea at every corner.
3. Pani Kotha
The Pani Kotha or Alfiston jail is also visible from the Diu Fort. The glittering view of the stone structure of Pani Kotha amid the blue sea adds to the brilliance to the Fort. The shimmering lighted jail makes up for a wondrous sight in the night. There are regular ferries by which tourists can visit Pani Kotha. The Fort is also home to a chapel for ‘Our Lady of the Sea‘ and a lighthouse.
4. St Paul’s Church
Closely located to Diu Fort, the 16th-century church whitewashed church is a delight for eyes. The finesse of baroque architecture makes St. Paul’s Church as one of the top places to visit in Diu. The church is the finest example of Portuguese influence in the country.
Photography is not allowed inside the church. In my opinion, the craftsmanship of the exterior architecture is awe-inspiring to witness.
5. Naida Caves
Those who seek to visit something off-beat in Diu, Naida cave is the answer for them. The caves are still a hidden gem and are located near Jallandhar beach. Known for their natural formations, these underground caves are perfect for those seeking some tranquility.
View this post on Instagram
Check out Diu’s Naida Caves, a set of artificial caves interconnected by a network of tunnels, with natural openings that let the sunshine stream in on the rock formations below. The caves are peppered all over with a series of block-shaped staircases made of rock that lead to nowhere! If serenity is not your thing, and you love photography instead, then also Naida caves are perfect for you. Head to the caves early morning when the sun rays are peeping inside, you’ll capture some amazing pictures.
6. Diu Museum
Diu Museum found its way by being converted from St. Thomas Church to a museum. The museum has historic antiques, sculptures, wooden idols and stone inscriptions. There is no entry charge to this 15th-century church turned museum.
Honestly, I was a tad underwhelmed by the condition of the museum and the spider webs was a turn off for me. If you’re with family and not prefer to visit museums, then you can skip the Diu museum and rather enjoy the time at the beach.
7. Jallandhar Beach
If you’re looking to spend some quiet time on an offbeat beach, then Jalandhar beach is for you. Not a typical beach, the entry to the beach is as unusual as the beach favored by algae. Jallandhar Beach is a primarily rocky beach with green algae on the seafront. This might not be ideal for chilling on the beach, but perfect for photography lovers, just like me. I took a ton myself when I could even get to the water!
The beach is deserted and good for 360-degree views of the sea. Although there are no shacks available, no decent place to sit rather is good for enjoying the views. The beach is an incredible addition to your off-beat things to do in Diu.
8. Gangeshwar Mahadev Temple
The temple is known to be home of Shivalingas which were sent back by the sea near Jallandhar beach. If you are a believer of God Shiva, then you may visit the temple when in Diu.
View this post on Instagram
Gangeshwar mahadev is a unique temple where waves from the sea wash the "Shivlings". This temple is usually submerged in the monsoon and under high tide. #nature #waves #shiva #diu #temple #instagood #instadaily #igers #igdaily #travel #traveldiaries #wanderlust #canon #photography #instagram #natgeo  #landscape #throwback #photooftheday  #picoftheday #artofvisuals #visualsoflife #instatravel #travelgram #naturegram #beautiful #india #follow4follow #indianshutterbugs #tbt

Where to Stay in Diu
If you’re spending a night or more in Diu, then my recommendation will be to stay in a resort with the sea in view.
Krishna Beach Resorts – One of the top-rated resorts in Diu is the beach facing Krishna Beach Resorts. Apart from the beach in walking distance, the hotel offers a pool, a bar, room service, and free parking. The resort also offers an airport shuttle if you’re directly landing ay Diu airport. You can book the resort using this link.
Diu TentCity – Khodidhar – If camping by the sea is your idea of a beach vacation, then I recommend Diu TentCity. With a private beach and beautiful location adds to the charm of the stay here. You can book using this link.
The Grand Highness – One of the most luxurious hotels in the Diu city, which also provides airport transfers. With grand and extravagant interiors, laudable wifi services, daily housekeeping, and responsive staff. The hotel is located near to the Diu Fort making it as one of my top choices to stay in Diu. You can book using this link.
Where to Eat in Diu
I had a hard time trying to find Gujarati thali during my Gujarat trip, specifically the Kathiyawadi food, which is applicable in western Gujarat. By luck, we make a stop at the Bamaniya Restaurant for a quick lunch where Kathiyawadi food was also served. They have both buffet and ala carte options which includes non-vegetarian food too. The restaurant is open air with fan & coolers available but no-AC which is fine for December to February months.
How to Commute in Diu
Like any other part of India, Diu is well equipped with auto-rickshaws. As it is a small island, one ride may range from 40₹ to 200₹. Although, if you prefer to explore the city on your own pace, and know how to ride a two-wheeler, then scooters are also available for rent at 350₹ per day plus fuel. Bear in mind, showing your driving license is a must and a deposit of 1500₹ is also mandatory.
So, this is my Diu Travel Guide with all the places to visit in a day or more.
