“All the girls in my village are so boring,” he says. “So focused on finding husbands that they don’t bother learning about the world.”

He winces at her tone. Need she be so harsh? “Well…it’s not like they’ve ever needed to, we’re a very progressive village and I always vote in favor of their needs. You’re not like that though, you fight for your rights yourself.”

“They are fighting for their rights,” she says. She sets down her sharpening stone, a frown stretching across her face. “No voting, no property, no wages of their own to purchase necessities. Besides finding a kind husband, what else do you think they can do to find a good future?”

“Th-they could leave,” he says. He did not expect the conversation to go this way. He expected her to blush like she had when he complimented her sword skills. He finds himself oddly defensive. “The men in my village aren’t slavers. The girls can leave any time.”

She snorts. “On foot? Your village is a hard, three day ride from the nearest city and that’s by horseback. And, even if they made it, what skills do they have? What references? The risk is too high for any woman to leave, that’s as good as trapping them. The fact that it takes me holding a sword for your opinion of women to change just shows how small-minded you are.”

 He bristles, unable to refute her. “Look, I was just trying to pay you a compliment! There’s no need to attack me.”

“Trust me,” she says, standing when he moves to loom over her. They’re of near equal height and, if he was trying to intimidate her, he fails. “You’ll know it when I’m attacking you. This isn’t it.”

He doesn’t seem to hear her, flustered to be seeing her eye-to-eye. “Furthermore, I think I’d know what sort of girls I grew up with! They’re timid and lack a desire to explore the world.”

“The world you created for them doesn’t take long to explore,” she says. Her sword is bare in her hand. “Marry or descend into poverty. Bear an heir or be cast into poverty. Behave or be thrown into poverty. I was there for a week and figured it out. But,” she continues, looking him up and down, “maybe I shouldn’t be so quick to judge. After all, you’ve lived there your whole life and you still haven’t figured it out.”

He splutters. “That’s not–there are other options–”

“When the revolution is done,” she says, coldly, “and your people are forced to give women rights, see how many stay and how many leave. See how many suddenly discover their wander-lust. See how many end up like me.”

She leaves him there and stalks off to the edge of camp. She leaves him there with his mouth opening and closing, and heart pounding in his chest.

She leaves him there with the unsettling realization that he doesn’t want the women in his village to end up being like her, so different and strong. Because, if they did, where would he be? Where would his home be?

It’s an upsetting realization to have, mid-revolution. No chance to back out now.

I’ll never be able to reconcile Shel Silverstein’s art and stories with his appearance. He looked like he would gladly murder you with a shard of broken glass and then throw your body directly into a shark.

This gets me. I don’t know, I may be reading it wrong- I usually am but this scene between Crowley and Sam…

Sam has just confessed, in a way that is his first confession and what he may believe will be his last confession, every single ‘sin’ he has in his life. He wasn’t confessing sex before marriage. He wasn’t confessing credit fraud for his entire life. He wasn’t confessing murder. Sam, our Sammy, was confessing all the times he felt he had failed Dean.

He was confessing being born, being the cause for his mother’s murder 6 months later. He was confessing being his father’s favored and letting Dean bear the brunt of any punishment. He was confessing that he needed protecting. He was confessing that time he ran away, and again when he left for college. He was confessing every time he tried to have a meaningful relationship outside of his family and how Dean always had to clean up afterwards. 

He was confessing Ruby. He was confessing his addiction. He was confessing every time Dean warned him and Sam refused to listen. He was confessing falling for Lilith’s trap. He was confessing every time he was captured and Dean had to risk his life to come and save him. He was confessing saying ‘Yes’ to Lucifer. He was confessing the cage. He was confessing being soulless. 

He was confessing being fragile and weak and needing Dean to protect him for his entire life while Sam railed and fought against it just as hard as he could.  He was confessing being flawed and tainted and impure. 

In his last confession, Sam poured his heart and soul out confessing how he had been nothing but a burden for Dean. He apologized for all the times he couldn’t live up to satisfy the sacrifices Dean made in his own life to protect Sam.

In his last confession, Sam admitted that he did not feel worthy of Dean’s love.

And then he proceeds to spend hours pumping his own purified blood into Crowley. This same blood that has coursed through his veins soaking up all those feelings of negative self worth, and pain, and loss. This blood that is Sam. Pure Sam. Human, imperfect, sinful, insecure Sam. This blood, with all of this emotion is filling Crowley and our King of Hell, our Dealer at the Cross Roads, our Demonic Fangirl who spends his time studying humans by soaking up our literature and down time entertainment, is connecting those emotions to the humans he knows. The characters he has studied to learn what’s the latest craze happening now days.  He is projecting those emotions just like we do when we dive into a show or disappear into a book. 

Crowley is suddenly feeling hopeless, helpless, worthless and unworthy. It is exactly what Sam is feeling. Crowley doesn’t understand the emotions, the feelings, and he picks something that he knows to help relate.

Hanna needs to be loved. She deserves it. Don’t we all— you, me— we deserve to be loved.

I deserve to be loved!

I just want to be loved!

Sam’s blood, his feelings and emotions screaming the truth at him from Crowley’s mouth.

I think some adults need to realize that teens don’t dislike adults because teens are rebellious and punk, a lot of kids and teens dislike adults because every interaction they’ve had with them is dismissing and condescending
