Transparent multi-touch display hoped to be in smartphones this year.

Taiwan based Polytron Technologies created the transparent display, using their “Switchable Glass” technology which allows the display to be used on both sides. A conductive OLED uses liquid crystal molecules to display images, which then turns a cloudy white color when switched off.

The company is currently marketing the display to OEMs, and told The Verge they are currently working on making a less conspicuous lithium-ion battery. They also say that once the phone is in production, a darker glass cover would help to conceal the SD and SIM cards.

There’s also no clear indication that it will actually come to production anytime soon, but Yu seems confident about its chances. “It will happen near the end of 2013,” Yu told Macworld last week. “Trust me.” He later told us that Polytron is already in serious discussions with “major smartphone makers” across the US, Europe, Japan, and South Korea.

The company plans to announce a prototype transparent tablet within the “next couple of weeks”.

The Argus II bionic eye from Second Sight received US Food and Drug Administration approval recently, and will be initially available at seven hospitals in the US.

Nowadays, houses are getting more and more of an escape than just simply for shelter. If it has then become such, then it should be so much more comfortable. That was what Microsoft wanted to make people feel when they reach their houses.

They have developed Microsoft HomeOS. It is an Operating System that allows the user to make controls over his home environment from lights, to air conditioning, to temperature, vacuum cleaners, washing machines, waters and so many others just by simply placing an instruction on the OS.

Now, how does this work?

Say for instance, you wanted to watch your favorite TV show. Instead of turning off the switch, the lights would then instantly dim to allow a much pleasurable viewing experience. All that was needed was to program it.

Microsoft is encouraging Appliance makers to have Microsoft HomeOS for their products so buyers will be encouraged to try them.

Best of all, HomeOs has an App Store where you can download many things you will need to automate your home.

Imagine how convenient the world would become if this were possible. But as to the cost of this, I have yet to find out.

Go see the Lowline Exhibit!

Really exciting new technology collects sunlight and transfers it onto fiber optic cables.

“You are actually having sun way below the surface of the earth,” said project engineer Edward Jacobs at the preview Wednesday. “You can easily route a bundle of cable anywhere, in any direction and at any depth. … Once the cable is laid out, you could actually grow vegetables underground and have a separate layer in the city of underground sanctuaries.” Cool!

The technology on display at the exhibit includes models of “remote skylights” that would concentrate natural sunlight form the street, and then channel it underground through fiber-optic cable, creating enough light to support photosynthesis. 

The “Lowline” — would convert a defunct trolley terminal that covers nearly 2 acres beneath the foot of the Williamsburg Bridge into a belowground oasis using solar technology to channel sunlight for trees and other plants to grow.
