The court-martial of General Charles Lee! Laurens gave his testimony against Lee today - July 13, 1778. Lee asks him if he's ever been in an action before, to which Laurens answers: "I have been in several actions ; I did not call that an action, as there was no action previous to the retreat." Bonus versions + my process on instagram (with musical accompaniment)!

You can view the full transcription of the court proceedings here. It mentions the court meeting in Paramus on July 11, where the court will continue to be held for a few more days, including July 13, when Laurens ("Lawrence"), Hamilton, and Meade give their testimony. I discovered this historic church in Paramus that allegedly held a session of Lee's court-martial, so I modeled the interior after it.

Someone requested Laurens with a dog(s), which I've actually been wanting to do for a very long time (even before you asked me - it's on my to-do list!), but I ended up turning the aides into dogs instead lmao - compare them to their human versions :)

all your incorrect opinions on West End's Next to Normal is your own undoing, i fear.

you think the mic placements are too revealing and tacky that it breaks you out of immersion? skill issue. it's not theatre's fault for being underfunded that they don't have the latest technology to get clear microphone packs with the best sound that doesn't get in the way of clothing and hair.

you think jamie parker sounds like kermit? skill issue. you just don't listen to enough diverse and nasal singing voices so you immediately think it's bad. pretty voices and good voices are mutually exclusive, love. and he was good. as a singer myself, he was outstanding.

you think the new direction and interpretation was overdramatic and didn't understand the original's dark and sardonic comedy? skill issue. you just don't understand that the milieu always influences artists and artworks so of course the 2020s' sensitivity to discussions and portrayals of mental health will be vastly different to the 2010's stigmatized perception of mental illnesses.

you think them making gabe a full-on ghost simplifies him and takes away his layers? skill issue. jack wolfe's gabe was never portrayed as just a ghost: in fact he admits himself that the base/foundation of his performance was that gabe is a narrative device but that he wanted him to feel real. (duh, because diana wants him to be real.) and why they made the choice of Gabe touching Natalie's hand is obviously because grief has wafted so much inside the Goodman house that it has now permanently affected Natalie, now that she's seen first-hand her mother attempt suicide and her father break down and fully accept grief.

Lafayette being a good friend! I like to think that when Laurens and Hamilton argued, Lafayette would try to smooth things over between them because he doesn't like to see his two closest friends fight. (This song called "Gift of Kindness" from the soundtrack of The Rose of Versailles playing in the background.) A continuation of this :)

Laurens working out (which in the 18th century was a variety of activities, but for Laurens, typically meant fencing or horse riding), because I'm under the impression that Laurens likes to spend his spare time studying or exercising, which he calls the "Recreation of his Mind" as his father writes in a letter. Featuring Ham with a flaming crush on Laurens, because that's my favorite thing and I always want to see more of it!

does anyone else like to listen to soundtracks while working on stuff because I am obsessed with the Sdorica -Mirage- (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) - it has the fantastical orchestral flavor of background music that I imagine for all the amrev I draw

Comrades Come - the fun "gang's all here" type of track, hopeful but also like they're riding on horses (I think of Lafayette!)

Blazing Sun (Violin Ver.) - you cannot tell me you don't see Hamilton aggressively writing with this one!! with papers flying dramatically around him

Mirage (Title Ver.) - this one makes me think of Laurens :'))) the dramatic piano and violin towards the end gets me each time, like he's leaving or something

This absolutely never happened and never would've happened, but I couldn't resist drawing it anyway. I imagine maybe Laurens went on a trip visiting the West Indies and met Hamilton, and they became fast friends. I love what-ifs, and the thought that little Ham would've liked Laurens as kids is endearing to me. A continuation of this :)
