The X Files is so good because, on the one hand, it is in fact a slow burn. Like, Mulder and Scully aren't in a formal relationship for the vast majority of the show's eleven season run.

But at the same time, Mulder goes missing for like twelve hours in episode two, and Scully holds an important army guy hostage with his own gun until her brand new partner is safely returned to her.

If that's not love, then I don't want it.

Not to mention the whole several-episode trope of 'something happens to Scully, and so every molecule of chill that Mulder employs on a daily basis evaporates instantly, like water in a fricking salt farm'.
