And so as much as I've hoped and dreamed and prayed you would stand on the highest step of the Monaco podium, I've also been dreading the moment when you would feel absolutely complete and I wouldn't have anything to do with it. 

And yet, here we are, the greatest day of your life, the happiest I've ever watched you be, a sight I have to share with the entire world and can't take any credit for, and I'm more at peace than I've ever been. 

I finally get it. Your wellbeing isn't a competition, it's a duty all living souls should be devoted to. And I'll always be here to take over when everything else fails you."

Charles said that while he understands why that strategy was considered, it was clearly the wrong decision. "We lost lots of points and it hurts." Then said he now understands why he was asked to let Carlos overtake him - after being explained Perez was coming fast behind. "I thought Carlos was alone in the world and would have loved to fight on track but now I understand the choice made and the situation." Finally, he expressed how tired he is of the "poles not converted" statistic, that he does an amazing job on Saturdays but doesn't have the car to convert on Sundays and change the statistic.
