it was getting easier and easier for Titus to fall prey to bouts of anxiety, many of which he couldn't pinpoint the cause of. it made sense, of course; no matter the amount of times he found himself in this city, there was still the looming thought that he was very much needed back home. some people might not think so, but...he knew his presence was missed as much as he missed everyone else.

and along with the lack of familiar faces was the lack of the casual intimacy he had grown so accustomed to.

when Zevran nudges him, pulling him from his thoughts, Titus leans into him without any resistance. arms wrap around him, head finds shoulder, and immediately the tension in his body starts to ebb. Titus felt all of his emotions very strongly and as wonderful as that could be when he was happy, it made these rare moods even worse.

"...Hope you don't got any plans," Titus sniffles, tightening his grip just a tad, "'cuz I don't feel like letting go anytime soon."

this time just rambling about flirting, sexuality, and how it fits in with his world and roles ! in honor of pride month

his series is a josei and nearly all the characters are attractive men, so. well. you do the math there--

that being said, there's a lot of implied queer relationships and shenanigans going on, but while most of the characters are just very heavily implied to be queer in some way, Titus explicitly talks about it sometimes. not as much in the main series, but in the novels and side comics.

in the main series we get a lot of Ti flirting with August (albeit while he thinks August is a girl LOL):

but! turns out, he doesn't give a shit about that, and keeps flirting well into the future. see his very blunt reasoning in this comic:

Titus just likes cute people, plain and simple. But he really doesn't have a "type." In his first official character profile, it's stated that he doesn't have a type; when he starts to like someone, that person becomes his type. cute.

He's also very plainly said that he likes men before, said partially in jest about being brought to a bar with no women so that he wouldn't flirt with them, but he was being honest LOL

There's also...whatever the hell is happening here-- (messiah was spying on Titus' hideout near the holidays and. well. the man likes mistletoe and company). based on the dialogue there's people of all genders here.

would also like to briefly say that Titus does not give a single fuck about gender and expressing it. he doesn't care about how August dresses and operates, and Titus himself has been shown to be comfy dressed femininely when others are uncomfortable.

while Titus isn't in anyway ashamed of being bi, it's also...not something he's used to showing out in public? like as gay as the main cast is, it's clear that their society is still very heteronormative, which gives Titus pause sometimes. because of that, he didn't grow up being able to outwardly show affection to the same gender, so he often gets flustered when flirting with other men. he's a flirt in general, but the second a guy flirts back, he melts into a blush-y mess. doesn't really last long, but there's always a part of him that's like "oh shit, what do i do--"

but that also kind of ties in to him being awkward about romance in general. in canon he's never had an official partner, never dated anyone or had a real relationship. he flirts, he sleeps around, visits brothels...but romance? it's foreign to him. a wonderful concept, but it just never fit in with his lifestyle

that isn't to say he's incapable of relationships: he is! he's an extremely loyal person when it matters, it's just...not the first priority in his mind, he also just loves people and being close to them, so he's never seen a problem with how he operates, even if other people do.

immediately does Titus' expression shift from surprise to worry, brows drawn together as he registers his companions sudden change in demeanor. the question he'd asked had trudged up some sort of bad memory, it seemed. there's no way he could have known that would happen, but he still felt a pang of guilt deep in his chest. he had only just met this person, but Titus felt concern for them, sympathy towards having painful memories locked away.

he has half a mind to apologize, but the subject is changed so quickly he decides against it. no need to make it worse.

Titus abandons the stars and turns on his side to fully face him.

"It's...not nearly as fantastical as yours sounds. My land's kinda...well, it's totally ruled by politics. Always has been. The last round of Lords and Ladies that used to rule under the Emperor caused so many problems that this new generation is stuck cleanin' up their messes. Real pain in the ass." the way he talks implies that he's part of the clean up crew even if he doesn't come out and say it.

not like most people would believe he was a Lord. a Prince, too.

"But we've got a new Emperor now. And all the new Lords are real good people."

ethos' eyes crinkle with amusement at the response, committing to memory the location of this particular constellation as he looks back at the stranger.

he thinks about the haze of death again. how there would be a sensation, in the part of his soul that resembles the vastness of space above them, itching to give it a different name whenever they met. one he'd know it by. has known it by.

“ twice. ”

he says, but is uncertain how accurate that statement is. their second encounter had been in form of a mist-induced illusion. he had struck it down then, without hesitation — something so unlike him — when he saw himmel surrender to it.

the simple joy he was feeling moves to make way for a terrible void, leaving him somewhat breathless in the sudden tragedy of it.

“ they're majestic creatures. it makes sense they'd end up in books. ” he concludes, taking a deep breath to recover.

he circles back to his initial curiosity regarding the eyepatch the man is sporting and does not bring it up, remembering how the last time he tried talking to someone about their scar went.
