walton saying that "[lucy] seems like a smart person, i don't really talk to a lot of people, this is a great article that i read in the new york times two-hundred and twenty years ago" in reference to the ghoul's pov during the fishing scene when he's talking to lucy about the effectiveness of torture (lol) is just so fascinating to me.

ESPECIALLY in the context of a lot of walton's other interviews and comments where he really draws attention to the parallels between cooper/the ghoul and lucy.

and to hear that there will be a collaborative effort between writers and actors for s2 and knowing that walton has all these insights and ideas about, not only cooper/the ghoul but also, lucy and the ghoul I AM SO EXCITED FOR WHAT'S TO COME!

it's great to learn that the connection i saw (and lots of other viewers picked up on) is something the actor(s) also intentionally implemented, and are excited to talk about! like he literally says that the ghoul sees lucy's intelligence -- and even in the midst of well not torturing her an "antagonistic encounter" he is open to communication. he's using her as bait, but also sees her as an intellectual equal.... as a person. (which is not something the ghoul is accustomed to doing, clearly.)

i think it’s funny that we as a fandom were sure lucy was going to talk the ghoul’s ear off in season 2 and then ella came in saying she hates him and is only traveling with him to find answers, meanwhile walton was like ‘actually the ghoul thinks lucy’s smart and he doesn’t talk to a lot of people so he wants to chat.’

like he’s literally out here sharing stories he read in the new york times 220 years ago because he’s lonely.
