i think. it's good to call out misogynist "tradwife" propaganda by pointing out the position of vulnerability it glorifies. i.e. telling women to be wholly financially dependent on a man. however i do want to point out that some disabled people, including some disabled women, are going to have to live in a position of dependence. if not to a spouse, to family, to the state, to friends, to a home care agency, to an institution. and this position of vulnerability is not a "dunk." it is not a betrayal of feminism or of leftism. it's just a reality of some disabled people's lives. instead, save that energy for supporting people who are reliant on others, for making sure we. have options to escape abuse, provide counter-narratives to our dehumanization and infantilization, and listen to us. actually listen to us, and make space for us in your organizing

perhaps the better analogy is between journalists and pornographers. restraining the powers of official censorship is a positive good, out of which necessarily both will flourish; a lack of journalists or pornographers in a society would be strong prima facie evidence of intolerable restrictions on free expression. but the substantive product of both is at best and on average morally neutral; and both frequently limbic and prurient and exploit the unconscious biases and psychosexual anxieties of a neurotic public to market themselves, distort the average impressionable person's view of reality, misinform by omission as much as by depiction, regularly drive moralists into authoritarian moral panics, are produced in exploitative conditions for too little money, and these days are hard to sell when it's easy to get your hands on a just-as-good replacement effectively for free.
on the other hand, porn gives people orgasms, doesn't trigger moral panics on purpose as a way to sell more units, and its manufacturers don't have nearly so inflated a sense of self-importance as journalists, so i would say morally speaking the pornographers are slightly ahead here.

i think it's important to acknowledge that the reason why mastercard/visa has such a stranglehold on american society is because cash is not the main form of payment in the usa. the predominance of card has effectively privatized currency
in japan, one of the reasons why dlsite and other similar websites are able to just remove visa as a payment option instead of changing any of their merchandise (aside from the fact that visa doesn't have a monopoly here) is because cash payments for online transactions remain an option. even if you don't have a jcb credit card or paypay or whatever, you can still pay for your online purchases using cash by taking your barcode to a convenience store, and you can do this for essentially every online vendor, meaning credit card companies can't just impose their moral judgments on your purchases with much repercussion

"if you're autistic you can still work on social skills!!" "if you're autistic why don't you get hyperfixated on learning better communication and social skills"
y'all have no clue how autism works and how it affects people and only have a biased view of it because you hate autistic people who are the "undesirable" ones. fuck you.

yknow every so often my personal posts get tagged as "harry du bois," and I've learned to be at peace with that, really, I have, but one just got tagged with "ianthe tridentarius" and I think that's a glaring sign that I need to get my next med check moved up

Folks have got to understand that they probably aren't messed up by some Secret Big Trauma that they just can't remember; but rather by a million tiny microtraumas that they do mostly remember but don't even register as traumatic because nobody actually understood that these things would cause trauma, much less stack on each other over the years.

tumblr equivalent to “he would not fucking say that” is “did I really fucking say that???” when your old post starts making the rounds again

Idk who needs to hear this but if you want to cut down on your sugar intake you really should start reading the nutrition labels on your fun drinks. Possibly get yourself some sugar free or low sugar fun drinks.

if you complain about anything on tumblr, the guys who do the exact thing but ever so slightly less of it will show up en masse to agree with you
“holy shit people need to stop throwing rotten tomatoes at homeless orphans”
“#damn straight! #that’s why I, personally, only throw lightly expired tomatoes at homeless orphans. #unlike those absolute monsters asgkgkihh”

in this fantasy world, theres no homophobia or sexism! but the governments are still patriarchal monarchies and everyone still adheres to the standard nuclear family, two things that have absolutely no relation to homophobia and sexism whatsoever

Reading the new checks that might come in due to the Online Safety Act in the UK and this is actually bullshit
Tumblr media
[Image Transcript:
And how will I prove my age?
There’s a number of methods a site or app might use to ask you to confirm your age. They might do this check themselves or use another company to do the check. These methods include:
Facial age estimation – you show your face via photo or video, and technology analyses it to estimate your age.
Open banking – you give permission for the age-check service to securely access information from your bank about whether you are over 18. The age-check service then confirms this with the site or app.
Digital identity services – these include digital identity wallets, which can securely store and share information which proves your age in a digital format.
Credit card age checks – you provide your credit card details and a payment processor checks if the card is valid. As you must be over 18 to obtain a credit card this shows you are over 18.
Email-based age estimation – you provide your email address, and technology analyses other online services where it has been used – such as banking or utility providers - to estimate your age.
Mobile network operator age checks – you give your permission for an age-check service to confirm whether or not your mobile phone number has age filters applied to it. If there are no restrictions, this confirms you are over 18.
Photo-ID matching – this is similar to a check when you show a document. For example, you upload an image of a document that shows your face and age, and an image of yourself at the same time – these are compared to confirm if the document is yours.
End Transcript.]
Not only is this such a fucking breach of privacy, but this is going to hurt adults in vulnerable and abusive situations. Some adults don’t have bank accounts or credit cards or even a fucking phone. I’m one of them. I could not give half of this information even if I wanted to. What the fuck is this. Fuck the UK government. This isn’t going to protect kids, this is just going to hurt adults, and I know full well when they say “sites that allow pornography” they’re going to be going after sites that have huge amounts of queer content, like tumblr and Ao3. Queer kids are gonna lose their fucking communities because of this shit. Abuse victims are going to lose online support systems because of this.
I’m genuinely fucked off about this, and worried about whether I’m going to lose every single one of my online friends. Anyone in the UK, please email your MP and sign this petition. It needs to reach 100k signatures to pass through Parliament.
I’m only hoping the backlash will be big enough for them to stop implementing these measures.

You know what, fuck people who force writers to reveal their trauma in order to justify the stories they write. No consumer is owed an explanation for the content a creator creates, and no creator should feel obligated to draw from or admit to pain that may or may not be in their life in order to craft a work of fiction.
“I had an idea for a story” is all the justification you need to write one, and all anyone needs to let it be.
