I was studying a map of the Mediterranean yesterday evening when it suddenly struck me so hard that Malta is right between Italy and Tunisia. It represents the meeting point between the two - no wonder the boys think of it fondly.

And then I realized that in the lab, while Nicky is being tortured and Joe is (I think) dead, Nicky’s thinking of home.  He wants to go home.  He wants to take Joe with him.  He wants to escape not just in body but in being - to go somewhere safe that is about the two of them and simply be.

And the idea of Nicky lying there thinking “I want to go home,” is just so deeply human and vulnerable … and now I am emotionally compromised for all time.
