The ILOVEYOU virus, also known as LoveLetter or LoveBug, was one of the earliest bugs to get worldwide attention. It began in the Philippines in 2000, written by two young programmers. The worm would present itself as an e-mail, and once the program was downloaded, it would infect the computer by overwriting important files and installing a trojan. This virus destroyed $15 billion worth of damages.
