Tonight I drew the spectre that haunted my window when I was little getting shot in the head and it healed something in me
To be clear, I never *saw* it, but for the first 15-ish years of my life I had an unshakable paranoia that I was being Watched by something inhuman and malevolent (I now genuinely believe my childhood home was haunted though it defines could've been mold) and in this one specific window I had this Idea of what might be watching me
Anyway

people often think i'm doing it for the bit but unfortunately i Am the type of guy who just says shit like "pray tell" and "indeed" and "naught but the human heart can hope to capture the moon's beauty" (that was actually about my shitty phone camera) and nobody really knows what to do when they hear those words come out of my mouth. myself included.

On some islands the dance tradition has all but disappeared. On Guam a so-called ritual fire dance is performed by Filipino entertainers for visiting tourists at the Guam Hilton hotel. Palau is struggling to revive its dance traditions. But in two areas the dance needs no revival: on Kiribati and on Yap. The extent to which Kiribati dance is considered holy or sacred is uncertain, although the dancers of old were thought to be inspired by the spirits; but on Yap the sacred dance still exists. Sometimes the men or women of a village perform the dance for their village, with no outsiders allowed to attend. Yap is now largely Roman Catholic, and the sacred dance is regularly performed as part of the liturgy. At the adoration of the cross on Good Friday, the women perform the mourning dance and dirge; at the Easter vigil, the hymn of the resurrection, the Exultat, is danced. At the ordination of a priest or deacon, the dancing comes after the Roman Catholic ritual. As one Yapese remarked after the Catholic ceremony was finished, "now the real liturgy begins."
Guam's native population is vaguely southeast asian (malay/indonesian), but it also has a lot of other micronesian people, some spanish (which ig makes sense), filipino (which is also southeast asian but ALSO has a lot of spanish mixed in, & some chinese), surprisingly some mexican (which is typically native american with yet more spanish), & other european & asian lineages. I love the philippines.
Some dances in the americas are also performed with cameras & outsiders excluded, which is good & important, but I also long for stagnant preservation just in case.
I love the folk catholic practice of including sacred traditional dances in with the colonial liturgy. My church includes some native american practices. We treat the prayers of the faithful like a women's circle, we smudge the altar before mass, we use cedar instead of palms before easter, I think it's very fitting that they do a mourning dance on Good Friday. I love the incorporation of religion, how you can keep your old beliefs even as you convert. That's how a lot of traditions made their way into christianity. They weren't necessarily stolen, converts brought their traditions with them. (Sometimes they were forcibly converted, sometimes not.)

You might look him up & see all these monochrome photos, but this was not that long ago. He was born in the 1910s, but he died in 1987. They had colour photos. Don't let people trick you into thinking this was a long long time ago & so not a problem anymore. This was somewhat recent. Now, colour photos weren't super common & it probably isn't a conspiracy to make us think it's ancient history, but I'm still putting it out there.
Bayard Rustin was an openly gay Black man who was Martin Luther King’s right hand man. He planned the Million Man March and was subject to scrutiny for his sexuality and deemed a “deviant” and “pervert”.
Bayard Rustin can be found in nearly every picture of MLK yet he has undoubtedly been erased from history. We have to fix that.

"Some elements of the old priestly rituals are maintained in the ceremonial houses (nahs ) of the nahnmwarkis. Ritual offerings of sakau (kava, Piper methysticum ) are made to the god as they were in days of old. Sakau offering is part of a formal reconciliation ritual led by the chiefs; it is now incorporated into the Roman Catholic sacrament of forgiveness. In modern times sakau, which is made into a slightly narcotic drink, has been secularized, and can be enjoyed in sakau bars."
