Three Castle Head in Ireland is a true wonder. All in the same place you have a lake, castle ruins, and a 1000 foot cliff down to the ocean. It was one of the things I'd wanted to visit for years. And even though it's out in the middle of nowhere, and a pretty long drive from the cottage, I was absolutely going.

I wish I'd had more time to photograph there. Especially at sunrise. Fog on the lake. But we were already running late.

There were a lot of people there which surprised me. I'm hoping it's not one of those places that gets ruined just because it looks awesome on Instagram. Nick Page is one of my favorite photographers, and he posted a video this year talking about not mentioning where many of his favorite captures are taken. Not to be hoarding the good stuff, but rather to try and protect it.

Carriganass Castle is one of the ancestral castles of the O'Sullivan Beare clan which I'm descended from. We stumbled upon it while driving to Gougane Barra after the werewolf incident. On the hill above there was also a wonderful stone circle. All very magical.

Seeing how this photo turned out, I really wish I'd spent more time getting different compositions. Shooting into the sun with a nearly black wall in the foreground I wasn't expecting much. But again the Sony a7r iii pulled a crazy amount of detail from the shadows. Magic camera for a magic castle I suppose?

One of the things I love about San Diego is the cocktail culture that has grown up in the last few years. Sure, it’s expensive as hell. But it’s a wonderful perk of city living. I don’t remember the name of this particular cocktail, but it’s at the D&D/metal themed vegan restaurant Kindred. For me, being forever a fan of meat based meals, I wouldn’t go for the food. But the cocktails and atmosphere more than make up for that. Food’s good to be sure, just missing the tasty animal part.

Warcraft expansion is eating up all my free time. I’m sure many think that’s silly, but I love playing it. And if I can spend only $15 a month on entertainment for a while, that should be a good thing. But I do need to work through photo processing. I probably have a thousand plus photos piled up at this point. Including many of the best from Ireland. With sunset season starting in San Diego soon, I need to get caught up.

One of the things we needed to get done on the Ireland trip was scatter mom & dad's ashes. This bench was very important to my mom. There are many stories about it. I’m certainly the sort of person who hates weather of any type. San Diego is always sunny and 75, and that’s one of the main reasons I live here. So there was plenty of time spent gathering expedition gear for the notoriously rainy and cold Ireland trip. But it wasn’t bad at all. We had a couple days of rain, but it was mostly sunny. The Dingle peninsula was the perfect spot for our epic family and friends vacation. Great beauty, great food, great break from the noise and stress and responsibilities. I sometimes feel I'm pushing the contrast and saturation on these photos too much. But honestly, when we were there it was so much more vibrant and intense that a photo can never do it justice. One might worry a person would become bored with endless incredible scenic vistas. The Long Room library at Trinity College Dublin just amazes me. Having such a massive and important library just maintained and not used as a library so that people can come in and boggle at the wonder of it is fantastic. Oddly, there really aren't a lot of distinct photos to take here. You can take many variations of the same incredible wide angle, or zoom in on the books, a couple shots of the exhibits. Irregardless, it's one of the most incredible spaces I've ever been in. Also, I'm way behind on processing the trip photos. 13 days of photos and I'm still on the middle of day 3. This picture was solidly on my bucket list for the Ireland trip. Rock of Cashel with dramatic rolling clouds sweeping by. It’s quite rare for the photo in your mind when you click the shutter to actually come out the other end after post processing. But this one did. Wish we’d had more time to drive around the countryside and get more angles, but this one will definitely do. Yep. If there was a theme for the Ireland vacation photos it might be “wide angle”. I probably took more 24mm or less photos in two weeks than I have in the last few years. Not even sure why, Ireland just seems like a wide angle kind of place somehow. So I won’t claim this photo isn’t over processed. But the drama of the clouds, and the naturally high contrast just kept me tweaking things. In the end I’m super happy with it. First night in Dublin. As with most of what we did I could have spent weeks here taking great photos, but we only had hours. Temple Bar is super touristy but still fun. I wish they didn’t have those obnoxious light strings all over the walls of the Temple Bar pub itself. I suppose much like Bourbon Street, it’s all about trying to get the attention of drunk 20-somethings. Pretty good photo anyway. We heard more awesome music in the streets around Temple Bar than we did in the pubs. It was amazing how much fun it was just to wander from one live band/performer to another. We did get in many pints as well though. First Guinness sip in Ireland is one of my favorite things.
