Title: Water Dinosaur Artist: Eileen Codd Media: Photograph edited with IPAD (Picsart) Date: 2023
This image of this alligator means a lot to me as the alligator also means excellent importance to me. His or her nickname is Water Dinosaur; they have been terrorizing my neighbors for several months. Often times they will leave their home of the pond to adventure into the great unknown otherwise known as my neighborhood, they have laid underneath my car preventing me from leaving, snuck into my neighbor's trash, and of course, broke into my neighbor's house. This picture was enhanced and edited by placing filters and hearts on the image. The hearts represent my love for their devious nature and the colors represent that nothing really matters in life, and that we are living in their world. I took this photograph as evidence that the creature exists and afterward, I uploaded it to my IPAD, put a filter on it to enhance the bright colors, and added hearts to symbolize my love for their devious nature. I put color enhancing filters so the colors are brighter because it brings out his energy he puts into this world. The colors and flow of this piece brings out the final composition. The use of space with the hearts is used here as I did not want the hearts over them as they are the focus point of this photograph, they themselves are the artwork of this piece and they need to be appreciated. True art appreciation.

Title: Procreate's fun brushes
Artist: Eileen Codd
Date: May 1st, 2023
Media: Procreate on IPAD
This picture is the cultivation of all I love, from my favorite brushes to my favorite colors. Just like Jackson Pollock I too can have fun with making art by focusing on the process rather than the product, by making picking my favorite colors and brushes and ignoring the final product I ended up with a very beautiful abstract image.

WRITING, THINKING, AND LOOKING CRITICALLY
Jackson Pollock was born in 1912 in Wyoming and was best known for his pioneering contributions to the Abstract Expressionist movement going on at the time. While he was born in Wyoming he spent his early life in California before relocating to New York City around the 1930s. That’s when he became a part of the vibrant art scene there and gained popularity for his unique art style. Pollock initially studied with Thomas Hart Benton, a regionalist painter who emphasized the importance of figurative art and traditional techniques. Pollock started gaining an interest in abstraction when he began experimenting with abstract forms and shapes in his works. Later on in the 1940’s his art underwent a shift as he began to develop his famous drip painting technique. The technique can be summarized as dripping or pouring paint onto a canvas laid on the floor, creating a spontaneous composition. Pollock was able to create a new and groundbreaking style of art that emphasized the process of creation rather than the final product.

VIRTUAL SKETCHBOOK 3
ARTIST: Michelangelo Buonarroti (Italian, 1475 - 1564) MAKER: Fonderia Chiurazzi (Italian, founded 1870) DATE: early 20th century MEDIUM: Bronze DIMENSIONS: 198 3/4 in. (504.8 cm) CLASSIFICATIONS: Sculpture CREDIT LINE: Bequest of John Ringling, 1936
The medium for this David by Fonderia Chiurazzi is Bronze, and the dimensions are 198 ¾ in. (504.8 cm). This work of art is bronze and uses circular shapes to create the body and sharper corners for the face. This piece is more realistic so the shapes are more based on the curvature of the human body. This work of art depicts the Biblical hero David and is a replica of Michelangelo’s sculpture of David. The sculpture emphasizes his muscular body as he is a ruler and the one who killed Goliath in the bible. The rhythm in this piece is David’s symmetrical body type and how he poses in this piece, he is posed more relaxed. His body’s proportions are in tune with and based on other depictions of David and of the average male during his time. This work of art was beautiful to see in person, as it is the centerpiece of the garden area and is surrounded by other statues but this specific one stands out as it is recognizable and taller than the other statues. It is also an impressive recreation of Michelangelo's sculpture David and was made by Fonderia Chiurazzi di Napoli (born in 1870) an Italian Impressionist & Modern sculptor. The sculpture was created during the fauvism area between 1900 to 1935 however it is a recreation of a piece from the Renaissance area, a period of art occurring after the medieval art period. During the Renaissance area art was commissioned from churches, portraits, and events from contemporary times. The artist who made this replica of David specialized in Italian impressionism and sculpture, from this we can assume he was inspired by Michelangelo's art because Michelangelo is an Italian artist. The message of this piece is to pay tribute to the original David piece. In my opinion, this piece of art is a great inspiration for the original, as it pays tribute to the original piece but Fonderia Chiurazzi di Napoli puts his own twist on it by changing the dimensions and the material for his work.

CONNECTING ART TO YOUR WORLD
Tumblr media
Color has affected the way that everything I own is a color. The world is full of color. When I post pictures to Instagram I can change the hue, value, intensity, and saturation of the photos I post. I can add filters to change the colors altogether or just to change their saturation of them. I generally dress in darker colors because it is easier to match my bright colorful hair. But if I had to choose a color scheme for my life it would be this. Though I dress in darker colors if I do wear colors it is those colors as well as they are my favorite colors.

JOURNALING
Unity and Variety: The appearance of similarity and consistency is how the textbook defines Unity. Diverse elements in the composition of a work of art are how the textbook defines variety. I see examples of Unity in my life when I clean a room in my house because everything in that room is consistent and clean. However, my house has an Irish element to it and a Mexican element to it adding variety to my house.
Balance: The textbook defines balance as an arrangement of parts achieving a state of equilibrium between opposing forces. Balance can be found in everyday life, I schedule my long work hours, my in-person classes, the time I spend working on this class, and my free time. If any of these times become too long for me I work to restore that balance.
Emphasis and Subordination: The textbook defines Emphasis as the method an artist uses to draw attention to an area. It defines Subordination as the technique used to rank other areas as a work of lesser importance. In real life I dye my hair bright fun colors, you can say this emphasizes my hair and the subordination would the sweatpants and tank top I have on that I want people to spend less time on.
Directional forces: The textbook defines Directional forces as Pathways that the artists embed in the work for the viewer's eye to follow. In real life, you can connect this to roadsigns on the road as you are driving the signs are there to bring your attention to them, they are placed in front of you on a bright sign so you are still looking forward but can still draw your attention to read them.
Repetition and Rhythm: The recurrence of visual elements is the textbook's definition. Rhythm is repetition with related variations. This can also be found in music, music uses repetition of sounds to create a rhythm using instruments.
Scale and Proportion: The size relation of one thing to another is the textbook definition of Scale. Proportion is the relationship of parts to a whole. We use scaler and proportion to size things for our house. If you are buying a bed you are going to need to know the bed's proportions to make sure it fit in your room.

ART PROJECT (SELF-PORTRAIT)
Tumblr media
This is my self-portrait.
I used watercolor and pen to outline the piece. I currently have dyed hair and I have for years however whenever I make a self-portrait I typically use the color of my natural hair. So for this piece I took colors that I have dyed my hair and used it for my skin.

WRITING A SELF-PORTRAIT
The baggage I bring with me when it comes to seeing any form of art are as follows:
I am 19 years old, I am gender fluid (any pronouns), I am from Florida, and my ethnicity is Mexican. For fun I like to paint or play video games, I have a couple certifications that would make me a part of the BACB organization but I do not work for them and the certification is for work. I do not like that organization. I work with in behavioral therapy. My ability to adapt to situations and my very sarcastic but friendly personality make me unique.

ART AND WRITING
Tumblr media
Origin of this painting is unknown at least to me.
This is a painting that is hung up in my house. I've had it for as long as I can remember. The media is a painting and as a child, I was afraid of this painting. In fact, despite living on an island at the time I was afraid of fish in general. As an adult I believe it to be beautiful, the colors are vibrant in person, and the details in the piece are really impressive.

WRITING AND RESEARCH
Hello, my name is Eileen Codd and I am currently in the progress of getting my A.A here at SCF.
I was assigned "Throne of the Third Heaven of the Nations’ Millennium General Assembly" by James Hampton.
1.  The piece is currently stored at the Smithsonian American Art Museum.
2. The artwork was created from 1950-1964.
3. James Hampton was inspired by several religious interpretations of the return of Christ. The throne was created to symbolize the third heaven often referred to as the "heaven of heavens" or the best part of heaven.
4. The entire piece is made from recycled materials such as old furniture, cardboard cutouts, and light bulbs.
5. James Hampton was a janitor at the time of creating the piece, as a janitor, he often picked up materials from dumpsters or trash.
My perception of art changed after researching the piece. I assumed the artwork was thousands of years old and that it was for royalty. Reading that the artist used recycled materials in 1950 added a new level of understanding for me. I also was more impressed with the artwork after finding out.
