First of all, boycott eurovision. However, I AM loving all the various stories of pro-palestinian rebellion that are coming out surrounding eurovision.
Apparently security surrounding the event is through the roof, and the Eurovision team literally frisk searched all the contestants to make sure they didn't smuggle any palestinian scarves or flags in, but despite this:
there was the guy who wore his father's kufiya as a wristband during his performance
there was a performer who painted "CEASEFIRE" and "FREEDOM" on their face using ogham script, and who then did a post on social media talking about it and how EV officials (who had found out the meaning of the facepaint by then) refused to allow them to do it again for a later round.
there was the indigenous Australian who used his body paint to paint a watermelon on his chest and later made a statement drawing attention to it and stating that he stands with the Palestinians
there's the 10,000-strong pro-Palestine protest that happened in Malmö, the city hosting the ESC this year
there's the crowd, who booed Israel during their dress rehearsal and shouted Free Palestine so loudly that the performance itself was nearly drowned out and the broadcaster (clumsily) tried to alter the audio so that the audience couldn't be heard
It's great, I love it. They can try all they like to block every mention of Palestine, but they haven't been succeeding and they'll continue to fail.
Fuck Israel, fuck Eurovision, and Free Palestine. 🇵🇸
Translation: What a shitshow. This years Eurovision has gone to hell. And it's first and foremost the EBU's fault.
Also, excerpt from the same article:
Throughout the course of the Eurovision Song Contest, the EBU has acted as if they live in a parallel universe. Eurovision is one thing, the world outside something else. The EBU has stuck its head in the sand. Shoved the problem under the rug. Held their hands over their ears and shouted LALALALALA. They appear to have done everything they can to pretend it's possible to hold an apolitical event in a world that's on fire. We have come together to be "united by music", they say, but the sharpshooters on Malmö's rooftops have nothing to do with us!
In its struggle to remain apolitical, the EBU has become like a small fascist state in itself, where the artists' space for expression and action has been reduced as much as the undergarments of the Spanish dancers.
It is reprehensible.
incredibly disgusting but also vindicatingly funny the rumours coming out about Israel at this year's eurovision. I'm not watching myself but from what I've seen from artists I follow and stuff on social media, the Israeli delegation and their press teams have so far:
Recorded a dude without consent out of pure fucking spite for the fact he doesn't like them
Have a songwriter going on tirades on Instagram posting about one specific performer she doesn't like cuz he's anti zionist
Shoved cameras in the face of another performer because they also expressed disappointment at their inclusion
Played victim at being asked why they shouldn't be expected to answer for the crimes their inclusion is attempting to artwash
Left early at an event for no reason
Might have bullied a performer by weaponising his dead parents?
Like I hope it's worth it for the EBU. All their attempts to cover up the obvious distaste that most of the audience and a lot of the performers have for Israel's inclusion aside, they literally just invited some genocidal school bullies to a big event and expected them to act professionally. The only professionals they are are professional victims lol
Israel were asked if by being here (at esc) they posed a safety risk to everybody involved when competing. Then, as usual, they were told that they didn't have to answer to which Joost Klein (representative for The Netherlands) audibly asked "WHY NOT"
I said I wasn’t gonna engage with Eurovision this year but it has to be said that it’s extremely laughable that they are willing to disqualify the Netherlands for a ‘incident’ that happened with Joost Klein. But they aren’t willing to ban Israel for committing genocide.
Like it can not be more obvious that they just don’t give a fuck.
Thank you dear Eurovision audience. Not only a black ocean but also booing but what did the tv station do? Fake cheering....but at least we know how it really went down. I am so not watching btw
between censoring Bambie's make-up, removing Eric Saade's performance from YouTube, and now this thing with Joost, the EBU just keeps shooting itself in the leg PR-wise this year, huh
like, guys, you've already got a full-on protest on your hands, why the fuck are you trying your hardest to make people even more riled up? have you not heard of the Streisand effect?
Don't forget to boycott Eurovision tonight. No support for them being hypocrites banning Russia for invading Ukraine but defending Israel despite its ongoing genocide of Palestinians.
As a rule of thumb, don't reblog donation posts or people asking for donations unless they've been vetted and reblogged by Palestinian bloggers. We usually go to lengths to verify this shit because we know scammers have been faking to get people to send them money, using the urgency of our genocide as bait.
It's disgusting this is what we're dealing with, but people are losing money because of some truly evil people out there.
Accounts don't just randomly spring up on tumblr without gofundmes while asking for someone to help them create a campaign. Fuck out of here with that shit.
the gofundmes for helping people get out of Palestine fill me with rage because AT BEST what we're doing is helping people be displaced in the safest way available to them that is the most profitable to a) corrupt Egyptian officials and b) gofundme itself. I'm so fucking furious that this is what it's come to. the world has failed to stop the Zionist genocide machine so profoundly that donating to gofundmes that will ultimately line the pockets of corrupt officials and technocrats is the most effective way to save the lives of Palestinians. Palestinians are right to never forgive. Inshallah Palestine will be free and Israel's genocidal state will perish in this lifetime. Donate to Gaza Funds. Whatever you can spare.
