Sombrero Motel, 4925 Las Vegas Blvd S. (1954-2005)
Site of Pinball Hall of Fame since 2021
This motel built circa 1954 was the first lodging north of the airport in the 50s. Joseph Bloomenthal was an early owner. Sanborn Fire Insurance Map from the 50s indicates it was a 16-unit motel. One of the two wings was extended, and a third wing was built in the rear/east side of the property. In an article about declining motel business in the Review-Journal in the late 70s, a reporter was told by an 11-year-old attendant of the motel that it had 46 units.
In '93 the motel was photographed a sign calling it the Pollyanna Motel. It closed in the 2000s and was demolished in 2005.
Pinball Hall of Fame bought the lot and opened in a new building in 2021.

Postcard, 50s.

Postcard, 60s.

“the worst motel I’d ever experienced … no running water in the room, the shower, sink and toilet didn’t work … they had a ‘Stay six nights get one night free’ punch card.” - Michael Owens
