The World Has Stopped Moving
FACT: By the end of this decade, most Americans will exert only slightly more energy per week than if they slept 24 hours a day.
FACT: This year, 5.3 million deaths will be attributed to physical inactivity. In comparison, smoking is responsible for 5 millions deaths per year.
Just a few generations ago, physical activity was an integral part of daily life. In the name of progress, we’ve now chipped away at it so thoroughly that physical inactivity actually seems normal.
The economic costs of this are unacceptable; the human costs are unforgivable. It’s resulted in inactive children scoring 40% lower on achievement tests than their active friends. It’s resulted in today’s children being the first generation with a shorter life expectancy than their parents. Imagine what you would do with 5 more years.
Help our children reach their greatest potential. Bring physical activity back into our daily lives, both at school and in the home.
