Reflection
My reflection
This term I have made it my self way to difficult, I have tried to much, did too much extra work besides my major. I did make it in the end but my body has paid a price and said that I should not do this anymore, which I think is very reasonable. Also I have tested my patience and will power to guide other people through this intents term.
I do have to say that I loved the thrill and the ride. I have gained a lot of knowledge about how to work in the digital lab and also I have managed to guide a project which contained 25 group members. This did not go very effectively, but in the end as a collective group we did manage to put up something decent.
What I really struggled with was this blog, it is against my nature as what I think is effective and efficient research. I must say that I do see the relevance of the assignment, I must conclude that it is not my personal favourite. I prefer to make booklets, design them around the project and have a little bit more control over my research in the way that I research what is important to the growth of my project.
To conclude, I did enjoy the project, I am proud of what has been achieved, but the way there was a very bumpy ride. I pushed myself, my body, equipment and personal relations to succeed but I do not regret the decisions that I have made.

This are some of the sketches I made for this project. They all resemble greenhouses but all of them are in a different shape.

This link will guide you to my pattern choices. They are numbered by the way they can be found in the book. Bellow each chosen pattern there is a description of the reason why I chose this pattern.

All the buildings on and around the square are square blocks. For that matter almost every single building in the city center is square. What is missing is a more divers collection of shapes. So my plan is to work with circles and other rounded shapes.
Inspiration for this are for instance the Koninklijke serres van Laken and the Circle Bridge by Olafur Eliasson.

On this pinterest board I have been collecting inspiration for the design where I combine steel, glass and brick in a design which will go on to the Schouwburgplein.

My definitive selection of patterns for my project and design.
51 Green Streets
There is too much hot hard asphalt in the world. A local
road, which only gives access to buildings, needs a few stones for the wheels of the cars; nothing more. Most of it can still be green.
60 Accessible Green
People need green open places to go to; when they are
close they use them. But if the greens are more than three minutes away, the distance overwhelms the need.
61 Small Public Spaces
A town needs public squares; they are the largest, most public rooms, that the town has. But when they are too large, they look and feel deserted.
171 Tree Places
When trees are planted or pruned without regard for the
special places they can create, they are as good as dead for the people who need them.
172 Garden Growing Wild
A garden which grows true to its own laws 1s not a
wilderness, yet not entirely artificial either.
176 Garden Seat
Somewhere in every garden, there must be at least one spot, a quiet garden seat, in which a person-or two people-can reach into themselves and be in touch with nothing else but nature.

Field research trip three, Paris, Jardin des Serres d'Auteuil. The prettiest and largest botanic garden I have ever seen in my life. It has enormous glasshouses with the most beautiful decorated window frames. The garden is an amazing example and will be a large inspiration for the design I want to make.

Field research trip two, Antwerp, City Center. The city center of Antwerp has a divers selection of stone and/or brick buildings. This is a selection of the buildings I thought are interesting.
