Thomas was always very specific about where he could or couldn't do anything. He'd been nose deep in case files for court the next day when he'd realised he was starving. Now he made a rule to himself never to order food to the office, as he didn't want the smell to linger. So he went to the speakeasy, ordering himself a proper meal and keeping himself occupied with a set of napkins that he was mindlessly folding as well as keeping an eye on the sports game that was muted on the television. He never took his courtfiles anywhere that wasn't his office or at his home, not leaving the secured suitcase he had during transportation. The workaholic in him hated the rule, but the last thing he wanted was for unwanted eyes to look over the documents and perhaps ruining things for him.
At the sound of a voice that was seemingly directed at him, he turned his head. At the suggestion of him taking a piece from the man's pizza, his lips curled into a crooked smile. "And here I was thinking you were doing some timed food challenge." He told the other, looking up when his own food got set in front of him. Traditional mashed potatoes with a steak and vegetables of the day. He only had fast food when it was a celebration. "I'm sure if you shout out free slice of pizza, everyone will come running, buddy." @complicatcd

— open starter 3/4 ; capone’s speakeasy.
Knuckles knocked a quiet and timed rhythm against the wooden bar top as he silently turned over the facts of his current case. The amount of money they were willing to shuffle out for information was a red flag, but not enough for him to turn them away. Unlike most requests, this one had came tied off with a bow, giving him more than most could supply. It made the job easier in a way, but it meant he'd have to get closer than usual too.
The male's hand paused against the wood as an entire pizza was placed before him on a platter big enough to feed at least four people. His mistake? He'd ordered two whole pies. "You hungry?" He spoke before turning slightly to the person at his side. He wasn't much of a people person, but if he wanted information, it meant going out on a limb. "Ordered two thinking that I'd have enough for a few meals, but I think I bit off more than I can chew." A joke, but he barely showed any signs of self-made amusement.

— BIOGRAPHY
Trigger warnings: disappearance
Thomas “T.J.” Stattler was born the eldest child and only son of Anson and Elizabeth Stattler. Although June was unusually warm that year, Thomas arrived during a brief cold spell, a fitting start for his cool, composed demeanor that would characterize him throughout life.
Growing up, Thomas bore the weight of his parents’ expectations, especially his father’s. With each new sister, his mother took a more active role in raising them, but his father remained firmly focused on Thomas, pushing him to achieve high academic marks from his earliest school reports. This pressure shaped Thomas into a solitary child with a love for books. He was the type of student who reminded teachers about forgotten homework and eagerly signed up for extracurriculars, often finding himself isolated from peers.
A transformation began the summer before high school when he loosened up just enough for popularity to take notice. Though still dismissed by older students, he earned respect and admiration from his classmates. Throughout high school, he evolved into the quintessential high-achieving student: bright, charismatic, and driven. He captained the debate team, a choice encouraged by his father, served as class president in his junior and senior years, and was even crowned prom king. To outsiders, he seemed like a character from a coming-of-age movie—too perfect to be real. Behind the scenes, however, he wrestled with anxiety, sleepless nights spent studying, and panic attacks fueled by fear of disappointing his father. His one escape was time with his girlfriend, when he allowed himself to ignore the inevitable end of their relationship as college loomed.
Delivering his valedictorian speech proved a source of immense stress, and even after receiving praise from the principal for what she called one of the most inspiring speeches she’d ever heard, Thomas remained dissatisfied.
His impeccable academic record earned him acceptance into every university he applied to, but his decision was always clear—Stanford, where his father had studied law. College life, far from home, brought a new sense of freedom. While he still aimed for academic excellence and succeeded, he also explored facets of life that had been off-limits under his parents’ roof. He hit the gym, attended parties, and explored his sexuality—all without fear of reprimand.
During the summer after his first year, however, a fateful incident in the Hamptons haunted him. He spent a night at a bonfire party with a girl, but when morning came, she had disappeared. When he told his father what happened, explaining that she chose to stay after he left, his father urged him to stay silent. The police never questioned them, but Thomas remains fixated on the mystery of her disappearance to this day.
Thomas graduated from Stanford summa cum laude and returned home, landing a position at a prestigious local law firm. His talent and determination quickly earned him a promotion to assistant district attorney, a role that set him up in woodside county. Despite his demanding schedule, he made the most of his time at home. His string of successful cases and favorable media attention led to his appointment as district attorney at 38. Rumors suggest that his father is grooming him for a future in politics, perhaps as a senator, but Thomas avoids commenting on such speculation.
His career has always provided a convenient excuse for his perpetual busyness. Now, with his 40s approaching, his parents have intensified their pressure for him to settle down and start a family. Despite numerous relationships, none have lasted—his workaholic tendencies leave little room for the time and attention a partner requires.

“I don’t suppose you happen to carry a flask of water with you that I could use?” Calypso asked the first passerby, not wanting the bloodstain to throw off any person willing to speak with her. Her loyal steed stood next to her, a bag tied to the saddle, dripping with blood. A bounty she’d come to collect but she couldn’t get the blood from her clothes with just a cloth, and her flask was emptied during the hunt. “You’d do me a great pleasure, serah.”

“ I don’t think they believed me. How unfortunate for them. I told nothing but the truth, but they  wanted to be wrong” Jade replied raising a brow as she watched the person walking away. “ I can’t imagine why anyone would assume I was a liar. Is it my face?” She smirked.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“So that’s what it is, must be one of those faces.” She’d been watching the swindler, and a part of her (honestly the biggest part of her) was impressed. It even made herself wonder if what the woman said was true. She couldn’t detect any lies, but then again, it wasn’t like she could instantly tell one told a lie amongst truth. “Keeping yourself busy, I take it?”

Nova let out a loud sigh as she walked away from the tavern’s patron. She longed for normal clothing and her own bed. She was already tired of this place and wished she was at her own bar rather than stuck in this corseted dress and dirty tavern. “What would you like?” She asked as she rounded the next table.
Tumblr media
Being seen as an esteemed warrior had its perks. She wasn’t required to wear corsets all the time, but rather fitted armour, a chestplate tight around her frame was all that shaped her figure. Corsets were only for fancy wear, for she even refused to wear those when she was at home. Why suffocate when you were only in your own company? “I would like your finest mead, please.” She answered the woman, positioning herself at the table. “And also if any rumours or news came by the tavern, I would like to hear it.”

“You know the price for your future, child. Don’t tell me you came here empty handed.” Kennedy’s little cabin was filled to the brim with stuff. Mainly charms, wind chimes made from bones – it was just how she liked to live, and she liked to make sure no one mistook her for a feeble woman. Her mutt was sleeping on the bed, and she motioned to the chair on the other side of the table. “Did you come for something specific?”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Love. That was what all girls came to see a Tallis for. Either that or a mishap in a romance before they were promised to said fling. Unlucky girls who thought a momentary moment would be a loving future. Calypso had been there a couple of times, but had never given away her virtue, not until marriage. She had been too busy with hunting and keeping the peace, anyway. So once the girl exited the cabin, did she make her way inside, her armour fitting to her body, cape dressing her shoulders and her weapons always where she could reach. She’d always been intrigued with witchcraft, and the trinkets that Kennedy made. “I hope you’ve got some time to count me in?” She asked, though she had no matter of future telling that needed to be done. Sometimes it was best not knowing.

As Calypso turned to face the minister, his eyes remained on her. He couldn’t even believe he got this far. If you told him a year or so ago he’d be marrying the love of his life and settling down. He’d straight up stab you in the neck for even suggesting such a ridiculous circumstance for him. But here they were, and there she was. He’d never smiled so much when he had been in that moment. In fact, he hadn’t smiled like that since his parents were killed. It was then he knew he’d made the right call. She was his light when everything around him was too dark. When he himself had submerged beneath it all. He squeezed her hands back glancing to the minister for a brief moment to acknowledge him before looking back towards Calypso as the minister began to ask them to repeat after him.
Tumblr media
Her heart was pounding, knowing that the minister’s speech would eventually lead to them doing the talking. She didn’t want to give public personal vows, she’d keep them for his ears only, having written her promises on a letter that she had hidden away safely. A breath escaped her chest when the minister’s eyes were focused on her, eyes gazing up to the cherry blossom trees, colours of pink and green stretching across her eye, before focusing on her fiancee, her other hand placed in his. “I , Xiao Mei Calypso Rhodes, take you Blaze Evian-Esquer to be my husband.” She started, having told the minister she wouldn’t say his birth name, knowing he would dislike that one little word. “To have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish till death do us part.”

“Ahh, right. Of course, how silly of me to suggest otherwise,” he grinned, shaking his head in amusement. She’d grown into such a beautifully fierce young woman. He knew her parents were extremely proud. He was proud. “As if there was anywhere else I would be, pequeno guerreiro.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She merely smiled at her uncle’s teasing, it being one of the things that made her love him even more. He’d been a pedestal during her upbringing, and even during her adulthood. No, life would be strange without Emilio Furtado. “Thank you.” She told him, stepping closer to give him a hug, one she needed more for herself than she felt he needed. She missed her father terribly, having hoped Arcturo would’ve been the one to give her father daughter dance, instead she had one with Jonah, who had also walked her down the green aisles towards a cherry blossom arch. Yet Emilio came close to being a father figure as well, now that she thought about it. With her two fathers being absent, him being there meant a lot too.

God, had he missed that laugh. He hadn’t been back in New York for long but he was already struck by all the things he had missed. Not just the people, but the city as well. Cal’s laugh was definitely one of those things on that list. “I’ve seen your new husband. He could run away with us. You definitely make one damn good looking couple,” Auggie retorted. He allowed Cal to study him, a small smirk on his lips that contrasted with the hint of sadness in his eyes. Something that had been there since the day Rue died. “I missed you too, fortunately, you won’t be able to get rid of me now we’ll be working together.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“I’m sure he wouldn’t mind if I’d ask.” Or maybe a little, but August was her best friend, one of the few vampires she trusted with her life, with the lives of her loved ones. Him leaving had left a hole in her heart, and picturing the wedding without him had been hard, so him being there right now, it meant the world to her. She hadn’t seen him during the ceremony, and wasn’t sure if he’d been there to witness her in her ceremonial gown. Though she only had eyes for her now husband. “You say that as if I would mind working with you. It is you who won’t be able to get rid of me. Only when I’m old and worn out.” If she would ever reach an old age, that was. In her line of work, as both hunter and detective, the outlook wasn’t positive. “You’ll have to dance with me tonight. You owe me one.”
