Buying Vintage Costume Jewelry by Oya Costumes
As odd as it may seem, there are some people who would prefer to receive something old rather than something new as a birthday or Christmas gift. Sometimes buying something old can be a very challenging task because one does not know exactly what to buy or how to buy it. If this seems to be the situation you are in, then you should consider buying some vintage costume jewelry.
What to Look for When Buying Vintage Costume Jewelry
Shopping for and buying vintage costume jewelry is not always as easy as it may first seem to be. Of course, one can always go to the local second-hand store or yard sales and find vintage costume jewelry by the truckloads. However, not too many people understand what they should be looking for when they purchase vintage costume jewelry. As a result, they usually end up buying things that they did not really want or pieces that were very overpriced.
The condition is a very important thing to consider when purchasing vintage costume jewelry. One should always check the condition of the jewelry. Of course, this type of jewelry is going to look old, but one should check it for scratched or broken rhinestones, missing pieces, worn plating, tarnish, or damaged enamel.
All of these things will lower the value of the piece of jewelry. Therefore, when you are looking at pieces to buy, it is important that you check for any damages. You should only pay top dollar if the piece of jewelry is in mint or like-new condition with little or no damage.
You will also want to check the quality of the piece of vintage costume jewelry that you are purchasing. Many manufacturers made very fine and high-quality jewelry a long time ago, so you should be able to check the quality very easily.
The weight, condition, and markings will help you determine the level of the quality. Do some research. Be familiar with companies that produced high-quality jewelry, then seek the particular pieces from this company. You should never pay top dollar for a piece of vintage costume jewelry that is not of high quality.

Toy Costume by Oya Costumes
The “big business” of toys did not start until the advent of the Steam Age after the 1830s when steam powered manufacturing and delivery systems were able to distribute toys across the country. Before this time, parents would create simple toys for their children at home. For example, mothers would sew cloth dolls from fabric scraps and worn-out clothing. Fathers might create a hobby horse or simple wagon for kids to amuse themselves with. Today, our youngsters have playrooms overflowing with toys; toys based on the good ole basics and shiny, flashy electronic toys whirring will buttons and gadgets. Many modern toys are based on popular culture and the reigning movies and television shows geared toward children. Flashback to your childhood or indulge your kid’s current passion, by suiting up in a fun toy costume for a Halloween party or a special birthday celebration.
A popular feature film that features lots of toys is the computer-animated movie, “Toy Story”. Premised on a room-full of toys that belong to a child named Andy, this movie has a toy costume for everyone. There is a toy costume resembling the character Woody, a friendly cowboy that sports retro western wear. Buzz Lightyear is another popular toy costume from this movie with a white spacesuit, faux retractable wings, and a toy costume jet pack to take you to “infinity and beyond”. Slinky Dog, Pig, Bo Beep, and the Army Men are all other choices for a toy costume based on this fun children’s movie.
Little girls will love to get dolled up in a toy costume that looks just like their favorite plaything – a doll. From storybook inspired dolls to more modern diva dolls, there is sure to be a lovely toy costume that makes any little girl’s fantasies come true. A toy costume based on Raggedy Ann features a blue calico dress, a white pinafore smock, and the signature red yarn wig and red-and-white striped tights (plus, there is a coordinating Raggedy Andy toy costume for brothers). You can call the Barbie a “doll’, but really she’s the ultimate modern single woman who has had many professional careers that have funded her sassy pink Corvette and fashionable townhouse.  There are many selections in a toy costume based on Barbie but perhaps the most iconic is to dress in a strapless zebra-print dress, high-heels and long blonde wig to bring back her very fist look in 1959.

Jack Costume by Oya Costumes
Jack is a male given name that is also occasionally used as a nickname for John. Long popular in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, the boy’s name Jack is picking up in popularity in the United States. There are so many ideas for a Jack costume, you are really only limited by your imagination in creating a Jack costume. But for a jumpstart, we have outlined quite a few ideas for a Jack costume based on fictional characters, real people and even inanimate objects.
Many famous real people are named Jack; it’s a name that’s been around since the 14th century, after all! One of the most famous political figures in the U.S., President John F. Kennedy, was often referred to as “Jack”. A Jack costume for this illustrious leader who was unfortunately assassinated could consist of a 60s-style men’s suit and a latex JFK mask.  Accessorize this Jack costume with Democratic paraphernalia and a date dressed up as First Lady, Jackie, in her signature suit and pillbox hat.
Another real-life idea for a Jack costume is Jack the Ripper. This scary Jack costume, based on the serial-murderer based in Victorian London, would wear the trousers, topcoat, and hat of a not-so-gentle man who lived with the late 19thcentury. Of course, you’ll need to add a knife and faux blood with this “go-for-the-jugular” Jack costume. Scary, yet in a tragic way, is the musician Michael Jackson is another idea for a Jack costume because he is often referred to as Wacko Jacko. There are several choices for a Michael Jackson Jack costume based on one of his ever changing looks. The red leather jacket Jack costume from “Thriller” or the white sequined glove Jack costume would both be chart-topping looks.
A fictional Jack costume could be based on the movies, television or books. One on the most recent Jacks to come to fame is Captain Jack Sparrow from Disney’s “Pirates of the Caribbean”. This eccentric but endearing pirate sports a swashbuckling Jack costume breeches, a billowy linen shirt and a scarf or leather tricorn tied over a dreadlock wig, Jack Skellington from Tim Burton’s dark computer animated movie, “The Nightmare Before Christmas”, wears a Jack costume made from a pinstripe suit with tuxedo tails and a white mask that looks like a combination of a skull and a pumpkin. Plus, dress up as Jack Bauer and spend a day in the life of this anti-terrorism agent from “24”. For the little ones, dressing up as Jack-Jack from the “Incredibles” is a funny choice for a Jack costume, especially if you youngster has more than a bit of mischievousness in them! A little red superhero suit with the “Incredibles” logo emblazoned on the front makes this pint-sized Jack costume perfect for any namesake.
A Jack costume can be based on things that aren’t alive as well. One playful Jack costume based on a time-honored children’s toy is fashioned to fit babies, making them look like their popping out of the wind-up box! Boys and men can dress up as a Jack, the lowest ranking “court” card, in elaborate clothing and accessories styled after Renaissance-era clothing. Of course, one of the best choices in a Jack costume for Halloween is the Jack O’Lantern. Styled to look like a pumpkin with a carved out face, this Jack costume is topped with a stem and leaf hat.

Rappers and Celebrities Use Gold Jewelry as an Accessory
Critics of some rappers' endorsements have charged that companies utilizing hip-hop artists as spokespeople are inadvertently--or purposefully--promoting negative values. As an example, they point to the rapper Snoop Dogg, who recently appeared in a television commercial to promote a well-known Internet service provider. Critics allege that since the rapper established his reputation by disrespecting women, advocating drug use and glamorizing violence in his songs and videos, he should not be employed to sell a family-oriented product or service on national television.
Some opponents complain that large businesses, with their focus on generating profits, often overlook rappers' past behavior. "Some companies don't care what an artist has said to become so popular. It's just, 'Can he say it holding the company's phone, wearing its clothes, or driving its car?' " says Jackie Rhinehart, a former executive for Universal/Motown Records. "It's all about the money. If an artist can reach 20 million people and command their attention, a company is not going to tell him to change the message or style that got him there in the first place." Other critics cite the fact that rappers have promoted pornographic videos and T-shirts with drug-related messages as evidence that rappers are morally corrupting young people as hip-hop expands its commercial reach.
Some supporters of hip-hop's newfound role in the nation's advertising landscape counter by asserting that rappers are entitled to do whatever they wish with regard to endorsing products. Furthermore, backers say, if some critics continue to speak out against a certain rapper or product, those opponents will simply be increasing the likelihood of young people experiencing the "forbidden fruit" syndrome, whereby they become attracted to something simply because others have warned against it. In the meantime, sociologists, psychologists and other academic researchers around the country have begun to study the ways that rap-related endorsements affect American youth.

Costume Suit by Oya Costumes
Suits, there’s a lot you can do with them as Halloween and special event outfits. A suit costume can really range the gamut depending on your definition of a suit. For example, a surfer’s wet suit or a playboy bunny suit costume might not be quite what you are expecting for an important business meeting, but fun to wear none the less. A suit costume can be found to fit everyone in the family including men, women, children and babies. Even the pampered pet can get in on the suit costume action with a variety of styles that are canine cool.
A basic dark suit costume can create so many different looks. One of the easiest choices for a suit costume is the President of the United States or other notable political figure. Add a powerful red tie and a latex face mask of your favorite (or least favorite) president and hit the campaign party trail. All of the most recent presidents are available including Barack Obama, George W. Bush, Bill Clinton and more  A dark suit costume can create popular characters from the movies including Will Smith’s character in “Men in Black” or Dan Ackryod in the “Blues Brothers”; just add a fedora hat, dark glasses, toy weapons and anything else appropriate.
Popularized in the 30s and 40s, the Zoot suit costume features high-waist pants with wide-legged pants that taper in to a peg leg. The coat of a Zoot suit costume is styled with wide lapels and wide padded shoulders. Available in bright colors, bold plaids and stripes, a Zoot suit costume is sure to get attention. Fitting accessories for the Zoot suit include a pocket watch attached to long chain, a fedora hat and pointy shoes. While the Zoot suit costume was popular within many cultures in American, it has become most closely linked with gangsters and pimps.  Add a toy machine gun or a flashy walking cane depending on your style of suit costume.
Another suit costume straight from the movies is based on the character of James Bond, Agent 007. This fictional spy is world-renowned for his dashing good looks and well-appointed clothing which includes a tuxedo or dinner jacket, bow tie and always an expensive watch. This man of intrigue and fine taste is also known for his fondness of the martini “shaken, not stirred”. Carrying along a plastic martini glass would make a great accessory for this suit costume.
Other suits in the less traditional sense include a bathing suit costume and a wet suit costume, both ideal for a beach or tropical party. You can keep things rockin’ as the King of Rock and Roll, Elvis. Famous for his many elaborate choices in a suit costume including the metallic gold suit costume, the caped Thunderbird suit costume, and the jail house rock suit costume. A big, hairy gorilla suit costume, a jolly Santa suit costume, out-of-this-world astronaut suit costume, and all sorts of superhero suits will make a memorable impression at your special event.

Many of these fighting sports have recorded as thousands of years B.C. and are still popular today. Whether you aspire to be a professional fighter or are just in it for the fun, a fighter costume makes a knock out choice for your next event. You can find a fighter costume to suit your preference and personality and your size as most are available to fit toddlers, children and adults.
A Boxer a fighter costume has changed dramatically since the ancient Greek days the reigning Theseus described the virtual non-existent attire worn at a match; only leather straps to cover the hands and little else below the belt! Suit up as a professional athlete on the boxing circuit in a fighter costume featuring a hooded silk robe with matching boxer shorts and padded red gloves. Several variations in color and detailing are available in this a fighter costume, as are super sexy versions for women.
A famous fictional prize fighter was Rocky Balboa, from the “Rocky” series of movies that made Sylvester Stallone a star in 1976. Make it look like you’ve taken a beating but come out ahead by adding some special effect makeup to your fighter costume. Other ideas for a fighter costume include Gladiators who were the professional fighters in ancient Rome. Battling in an outdoor amphitheater, these tough warriors took on other Gladiators, vicious criminals and even ferocious animals for the sheer entertainment of the spectators. Russell Crow recently portrayed one of these fighters in the Academy Award wining movie, “Gladiator”. A realistic Gladiator fighter costume includes a tunic with arm and shin guards paired with leather sandals and a battle shield a sword. On the head, the distinctive Gladiator helmet was worn which featured bold red plumage.
A Sumo wrestler is a fighter who has been trained in this traditional sport of Japan that dates back to the ancient Edo period. You may have to grin and “bare” it, because there is not much modesty in a classic Sumo fighter costume. Still resembling the ancient Japanese uniform, the Sumo fighter costume is pretty much just a white loincloth, although a decorative robe is sometimes worn pre-match. A wig pulled up into a black pigtail on the top of the head adds an authentic look to the Sumo fighter costume. For a hysterical and completely larger-than-life look, suit up in an inflatable Sumo fighter costume that puffs you up in a flesh-colored jumpsuit and gives you’re the formidable girth needed for this sport.

ONE RESULT by Oya Costumes
If each designer brings his style, he must reckon with specific contingencies: a dancer or an actor is not a dummy, his body, his gestures are data that a designer is not necessarily used. The fashion workshops working on costumes must adapt, just as they adapt to the measurements and requirements of a client of haute couture. In both cases, the ritual of fittings is also the same. But for the collection stage, they can rely on the expertise of the artists with whom they share sensibilities and purpose: choreographers, directors, actors, dancers and sometimes a costume workshop elite, such as Opera Garnier which brings together all the trades needed to create a locker room scene.
The result is necessarily unique: a dress directory measures of a show and its characters. It is also living and modern: in 2013 as in 1917, the creative minds of the time continue to take part in these classic shows as movies or the Internet have not been able to go out of fashion.
The twenty-first century, renowned architects tend to replace the great painters: Jean Nouvel has designed the sets of The Marriage of Figaro and the New York office of Rem Koolhaas took part in the creation of The End. This funny UFO (which will be released at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris in November) is also entering the stage costume in another dimension: the virtual show. Fashion, she really is soluble in all these world stage and proves, if proof were needed, it is also a show that runs continuously.
