Renee took her mother's tone and nodded. She was hurt, and that was the last thing she would ever want to do. Her mother had always been there for her. She broke her trust and it felt her with a sinking feeling of guilt. " Okay. " Renee finally said as she reached to grab the bags out of the bassinet stroller so she could put Anika down in it for now. " Please don't cry. " Renee said under her breath to the rosy-cheeked baby down. Chucking the diaper bag over one of her shoulders and a large backpack over the other. It felt as if she was in high school or a kid again and she was in trouble. She followed her mother in silence to grab her four bags from her luggage and car seat. Renee, once a light traveler had almost tripled what she took now. Once they had gathered all the bags and car seat Renee stayed silent until they got to the car. " Can you hold her so I can figure out how to get this car seat into the car? " Renee's voice was so timid and soft-spoken still in what felt like an eternity.
She just stared at her daughter and didn't find her joke funny. Hearing the truth, made her heartbreak. Why didn't her daughter tell her before? How did she miss this? For at least a year, how did she not know her daughter was expecting and then had a baby. She knew things with Ricky had sometimes preoccupied her mind, but for this long? Maybe some of Ricky's drug induced yellings were rights. Maybe she was a bad mom. After all, her ex-husband would say she babied them too much and were also overprotective in the next sentence. Part of her hoped her daughter just convinced another passenger to let her play this as a joke, but looking at the child, she could see bits of Renee as a baby there. This wasn't a joke. "Let's... Let's get your bags and head to the car." She said lowly. She didn't want to have this conversation here. She knew she was going to start crying and she needed a moment to process.

Renee had been in town a couple days now. She had finally gotten back on a regular sleep schedule and it was her first day adventuring on her own. Nancy, her mother offered to watch Anika so she could run errands and get a couple things she needed. It had been a long shopping trip so Renee decided to treat herself before going home. She was standing in line for ice cream before she heard the man behind her speak. She was simple when it came to ice cream. " I was thinking just strawberry. It's been a while since I had a good strawberry ice cream. " Which in her case was true as things in Europe were different. " I think really it depends on what you're in the mood for. Though I am usually partial to the special. " She added as she placed the bags down at her side. She couldn't wait until Anika was old enough and she could bring her to all the places she went to as a kid.

As the weather was becoming nicer and nicer these days, August thought that today was going to be the perfect day for an ice cream cone. He was in Scoops & Scones and he was so indecisive as to what flavor to get. "I'm really struggling here. Like what flavor would you suggest? I like to always play it safe and go for the mint chocolate chip but their special today is birthday cake explosion and I feel like I should try that but there's so many other good flavors too."

Renee have her mom the tightest squeeze she possibly could while holding a baby. This was honestly the most nervous she had ever been. They talked nearly everyday no matter what time it was for her mom. Mikkel was scared she would flee if her mom found out. That she would force her to come home, even though Renee told him her mom would never. She looked to her mother then the baby again before speaking. “ oh she’s just the baby I stole as I was leaving the country. ”Knowing very well this was not a time to joke and she watched her mothers face hoping she would at least get a smile from her. “ This is Anika, my daughter. “ Renee finally spoke after a long pause with no communication. “ She’s your granddaughter. “ Renee was nervous herself. The last thing she would ever want is to hurt her mom. There had been so many times she wanted to call her to ask stupid questions but knew it would make Mikkel upset if she did.
Nancy was beyond excited to have Renee home. It felt like so long since she had seen her daughter and with Ricky in rehab, she missed having her kids around; even though her oldest had only been gone almost two weeks. Her youngest couldn't have picked a better time to come home and she even planned to stay at her house a few extra nights to be with her. The woman had been staying at Harrison's more and leaving Matt at the house to watch it. Plus, having her home meant she could properly meet Harrison now. Watching the arrivals screen, she got excited when she saw Renee's had arrived and waited to see her. She waved before she noticed a baby in her daughter's arms. Her face fell along with her heart and she hugged her daughter awkwardly for a moment. "Renee, who's this?"

Renee was happy to be home with her mom. She had been away from East Haven for so long, so to be back in her childhood home was really nostalgic. Renee had gotten Anika down for a nap finally. Both were struggling with the time change since they had gotten back earlier that day. Renee was on her second cup of coffee since getting home. Having to be careful to not drink too much. Renee was working on laundry when she heard the keys rattling at the door. Her mom had gone out to pick up a couple things for her and Anika. Renee made her way to the door thinking it was her mom and would need help bringing stuff in.
She stopped in her track the moment she saw Matt. She hadn't seen him since the last time she was home and it was only for a short time. "Mom, you mean my mom? " She said jokingly as she made her way to him to give him a big, tight hug. " I am, I am. It's kind of a long story. " She spoke softly the moment her words came out she started to hear a soft cry from the other room. " I'll be right back. " She said before disappearing into her own room to pick up her daughter. She refused to sleep now after a long day of travel. She placed a soft kiss before making her way back to Matt. " I guess so. It's either me or her. Probably her, she's cuter than me. I'm mad about it. " She said jokingly. " Uh, this is my daughter. Her name is Anika. " She said nervously, as it was still weird for even her to be just now introducing her to her friends and family. " Before you ask, no Mom didn't know. It's a long story that involves Mikkel. " She said even saying his name filled her with both anger and made her wanna cry.
closed starter for @thompsonrenee location: the Thompson residence, Maple Hills
Matt had gotten off work and debated going to his apartment, but Nancy had texted him that there was something at the house he had to see, so he headed towards the Thompson home. He was still staying there most of the time even though he didn't need to be anymore. With the woman moving in with Harrison and Ricky in rehab, he offered to watch the house for Nancy and the woman appreciated it. He'd do anything to help the family who felt more like his than his own.
He didn't see a car in the driveway and figured whatever it was, Nancy just left inside for him. He parked and started fumbling with his keys when he found the top lock already undone and he turned the doorknob to see it was open. "Mom, you..." He started saying as he entered, but he didn't see Nancy. Instead he saw Renee. It had been a long time since he saw his best friend's younger sister and a smile crossed his face. "Renee. You're home." He paused. "Are you the something your mom was saying was here I had to see?"

Where: Burlington Airport
When: Mid-Afternoon
Who: @nancyxthompsons
Traveling had always been one of Renee's favorite things to do. Since she had moved to Europe, would take any chance that she got. The last place she thought she would be traveling through was home. Not sure even how long she would be home to stay. Renee was grateful that she had a place to go. Though this was not the ideal time to be coming home for her, she was excited too. The last couple of months had been a whirlwind. Fighting for custody of her daughter from her Mikkel. Her heart ached every time she had to hear his voice but was also filled with anger. What he had done to her was unforgivable, and now she was doing what was best for herself and Anika.
Three plane rides later she was one step closer to being home. She was nervous. Anika was something she had kept from her family stupidly. She was young and Mikkel had told her to wait until a moment like this. The last thing Renee would ever want to do was to hurt her family, especially her mom. Thankfully, Anika had settled on the second part of the flight sleeping most of the way as they flew overseas. Her boss made sure she was in first class and comfortable the whole way. Traveling alone with a baby was not easy her boss had told her who once had young kids. Renee was slowly gathering her things, as people exited the plane by her. Anika decided at that moment to become fussy and wanted to be held. Since there were not many left on the flight she let her daughter cry just for a short time so she could throw all of her stuff into her bag.
Finally getting all of her stuff together and making her way to find her stroller, Renee tossed the couple of bags they had into the stroller while holding Anika. Searching for her mom as they approached the baggage claim. She let out a soft sign as her eyes scanned the room again spotting her mom. " Mom. " Renee called out to get her attention as she made her way toward Nancy with Anika in her arms. Already feeling guilty for not telling her about the six-month-old. " Surprise. " She exclaimed once she was close to Nancy bringing her in for a hug.

[ Natalia Dyer | 25 | Cis-Female | She/Her ] Hey, look! It’s [RENEE GRACE THOMPSON ] at [ the Library ]. Did you know they are a [ TRAVEL JOURNALIST]? I guess they’re from EAST HAVEN, VERMONT] and have been in town for [1 DAY], living in [MAPLE HILLS]. I also heard they’re a little [SHREWED], but also very [SHARP-WITTED] which definitely makes sense. [ Jess | 30+ | EST | She/Her ]
Biography:
Renee was born to Nancy & Don Thompson on October, 31st at just four pounds eleven ounces. Stubborn since the day she was born, Renee has always been a go-getter. Renee was born weeks earlier than she should have been and spent the first couple of weeks of her life in the NICU. Her mother not leaving her side more than she had to. Renee was not the only child of Nancy and Don. Renee has an older brother Ricky who was three years old at her birth. Renee was born a fighter and was out of the NICU quicker than the nurses had anticipated. Nancy since has always been close to Renee,
Renee had always been gifted when it came to school, even skipping the third grade. It was always a lot harder for her socially-wise. Renee always had a hard time making friends. She rather would spend her time reading in her room or hanging with her mom. Her father was always working so Nancy would often drag her out of doing her schoolwork to do something fun. Renee was and still is a bookworm. She also was always writing at a young age. She would write stories to read to her mother and father when and if he was around. She kept extensive diaries still stored in boxes at her mother’s house. Renee ended up graduating high school at the age of seventeen. With her astonishing SAT scores and grades, she was able to get into the University of Vermont. It was hard for Renee to be away from her family and the friends she had made. She had never left her family or been away from them more than a night, The adjustment was perfect for Renee in the end. She was able to become more social and excel in her classes. She loved living on campus, it was a whole new form of freedom for her.
During her sophomore year of college, one of Renee’s professors noticed her outstanding grades and asked her about the exchange program he was a part of. Thinking that she would be a great fit for the program. Renee was on a full-ride scholarship at the college, which was needed since Renee didn’t want her parents to have to worry about paying for her college. Looking more into it Renee made the hard decision that she wanted to take the opportunity. Out of all of the locations she could have chosen she decided on Aarhus, Denmark. Yes, this was going to put more distance between her and her family. Renee promised to call her mom as much as she could and visit on holidays. Renee thrived in Denmark. It was as if she had become another person. She had a ton of friends, while still keeping her grades. That was when she met Mikkel. Mikkel was a couple years older than Renee and friends with her roommate's boyfriend at the time. The four were always hanging out with one another in their free time. Renee instantly had a crush on the blonde hair, blue-eyed boy. His accent made her giggle in a way no one had dated before. She really liked Mikkel but was scared to ask him out. That was until one night they had been at a party. Renee had, had a little too many drinks that night and got the courage to ask him out. To which he said yes, and the rest had really become history.
Mikkel and Renee ended up moving in together rather quickly not wanting to be apart from each other. Renee would go on to graduate and be offered a job in Denmark. Renee took the job, though she knew her mom would rather her move back to the US. Denmark had really become her home over the past two years. She felt a lot safer living in that country. Renee and Mikkel stayed together for the years to follow. Renee as promised would call her family often and go to visit on holidays. It wasn’t until Renee became pregnant she became a little distant from her family. She was scared to tell her mother she was pregnant. She was still so young and unmarried. She and Mikkel welcomed their daughter Anika in late fall. Renee was able to take the first couple of months off to care for her newborn before going back to work from home. Renee could have taken off more time but she loved her job and the people she worked with.
It was late one night when Renee came home with their now five-month-old daughter, The house was dark and she figured that Mikkel was still at work, but that was not the case. She was in shock to find out that he had been cheating on her while she took care of their child. Enraged, she packed up as much as she could and left to go back to the States. Her boss was thankfully understanding. Renee is now arriving home with her daughter and her family unsure of what they will say about her return.
