I was sent to kill an Orphaner trainee who had gone rogue, but she helped me realize that I’d been brainwashed. 

Instead of killing her and returning, I fled with her. 

Huh.

Could I ask why you deserted?

In the past, I deserted from the Alternian military. 

Recently, though, I was forced to return to the role I was drafted into: That of a laughsassin. 

This is the first I’m hearing, from anyone of your kind, that they didn’t choose their career. Enlighten me, s’il vous plaît?

I mean, it’s night as much as it can be night on a starship. 

And I’m afraid that I can’t tell you where I am. 

So it’s night time where you are? Which poses the question, where are you? Though I’m going to avoid the over played joke of when are you.. While simultaneously acknowledging that joke is still a great joke.

I don’t intend to prove you wrong. 

I really did not choose the life of a laughsassin. 

Pff. “Not by choice.” That sounds fake, but sure. Whatever.

There are ways besides physical to hurt a troll. I doubt there’s any way you could hurt me beyond what’s already been done, but I think of others here.

Yeah, though there’s more than that going on. 

I’m also very glad that things are okay between him and me. 

Sometimes reconnecting with people is like that. There’s always that weird ambiance, especially if you were close to that person or if you don’t have a very blunt personality. 

But I’m glad that things seem to be okay with you and your long lost friend.

Not by choice, though. 

And, since I’m almost certainly not living in the same universe you are, I can say with almost full confidence that I will not be forced to hurt you. 

How could you not mean anyone harm? Isn’t that kind of your job - doing harm to others?

Unfortunately, our reunion wasn’t quite as happy as I might have hoped. 

Certain circumstances got in the way of that.

I think troll blood is red, too, deep down; it’s just got other pigments in it that color it a bunch of other colors, too, and it’s only a rare mutation that lets the red really take precedence. 

Seadweller isn’t a derogatory term; it’s actually what they call themselves. 

As far as what’s up, I recently returned from a mission to discover that someone I’m very fond of had come back to Tumblr. 

Today is a fairly good night, I think. 

Then that is something we have in common.

Not the purple blood. I’m a human so mine’s red. Or blue if you believe that all human blood is blue until it is oxygenated. Though, that’s wrong. All Earth inhabitants have red blood. Veins just appear blue.  But there’s no hemospectrum here.

Besides your distaste for seadwellers (though I kind of feel like that’s meant to be a derogatory term..), what’s up?

Well, a troll with fins would probably be a seadweller. They are capable of living on land, though it’s kind of frowned upon for one to live entirely on the surface. 

It’s nice to meet you, Dirk. 

No, I’ve only met two kinds of trolls in my lifetime. None of them live in the sea, though two of them do have fins. I think only one of them could be viewed as aristocratic. She’s a beautiful mother of several children, and my best friend. But I guess it’s fair to say I don’t know a whole lot about trolls. Even though I do know her, she’s more knowledgeable about human culture than I’ve ever attempted to indulge on troll culture. 

I’m sorry to hear that you haven’t met any that you get along with.
