Setup Your WiFi Router
WiFi offers advantages: Smartphones, notebooks, tablets and televisions obtain their content wirelessly from the Internet. However, there are a few hurdles to overcome when setting up a wireless network. We  show which devices you need, how to connect and set them up. You will also learn how to protect the wireless network safely from intruders.
Required hardware
As a rule, the providers provide the most important hardware such as splitter, DSL modem or NTBA, for an ISDN connection, free of charge with the DSL contract. All you need is a network card, which is standard equipment for PCs and notebooks. If several computers are to be wired to the Internet or surf the net via WLAN, there are additional costs for routers. You can see the most important devices for setting up a network within your own four walls in the gallery "Hardware for the network".
Router settings
After you have connected the hardware, it goes to the setup of the router. Most routers offer wizards that guide you step-by-step through the individual menu items.Find out the access data of the router ( most times via the router login IP: 192.168.1.1 )
You have an old router and do not know the access data? No problem: In the guide "With these data you get control over your router" you will find a summary of the standard access data of the most important router manufacturers.
Make WLAN secure
Securing the wireless network is at least as important as the correct connection and setup of the hardware. After all, anyone who does not protect his WLAN is liable for illegal downloads by other users! To prevent this from happening to you, you can find all the important security settings under "Ten tips for secure WLAN".
Establishing a network connection
The schematic diagrams in the "Connecting DSL correctly" overview show how to correctly connect the hardware components for the different types of contracts.
Setting up your PC home network
Those who also use the advantages of a network at home do not have to make a lot of effort. Often you only have to set up the existing infrastructure correctly. The guide "How to set up your PC home network" will help you do this.
