A non-believer myself, but I will certainly miss him and appreciate his messages of hope and a focus on just doing what was right. A beacon of goodness trying to do what he could within the constraints of the imperfect, ancient ship that he has been steering for the past 12 years. I hope his successor makes half the progress he did

Tl;dr: women used to spend much more time pregnant and the placenta would actively suppress their immune system so their immune system is baseline higher. Without the frequent pregnancies their immune system sits at a higher level than it should
