Quick clarification first: Moon doesn’t have two gems- she has two halves of a whole Rainbow Moonstone gem! Her physical form is split between these two halves. I’m fully aware this is far outside current canon, but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I’m a sucker for symmetrical designs and I’d rather not completely redesign Moon just yet (even if I am poofing her for the sake of this response).

Moon’s pretty cautious when it comes to dangerous situations, but on the one or two occasions when she’s been poofed, this is what happens:

The halves of her gems snap together, much like two magnets do when they’re close to each other! It becomes one whole Rainbow Moonstone gem that can’t be pulled apart (by conventional means anyways).

But you anons bring up an important point- Moon’s really vulnerable the instant after she’s been poofed! If her halves are separated, she’ll be unable to reform (though it’d take someone really fast to separate them before they snap together).

Of course, you’d have to get through Star Sunstone first, and that’s no easy feat!
