Top 5 Favorite Shows of the Season!
Broadway’s 2017-18 season was quite the disappointment for this blogger, not even mentioning the lackluster Tony Awards ceremony. This season was better for plays, all the way. The musicals that I enjoyed most were the revivals! I was fortunate enough to see 1984, Prince of Broadway, Time and the Conways, The Band’s Visit, Spongebob, The Children, Farinelli and the King, Angels in America, Frozen, Lobby Hero, Children of a Lesser God, Carousel, My Fair Lady, and Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. I invite you to send me an ask about any of these or take a look at my data sheet to see what I paid!
TOP 5 FAVORITE SHOWS OF THE SEASON!
1. The Band’s Visit
Three words to describe it: enchanting, captivating, bittersweet.
2. Angels in America
Three words to describe it: dramatic, jaw-dropping, intense.
3. My Fair Lady
Three words to describe it: fun, timeless, flashy.
4. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child
Three (really four) words to describe it: weak plot, yet stunning.
5. Time and the Conways

Three words to describe it: haunting, thoughtful, odd.
HONORABLE MENTIONS!
Carousel: Great acting, singing, and dancing, but the production is not in its full glory.
1984: Translated very well from the book. However, it was very clear that they were going for shock value. I still enjoyed (?) my time at the theater.
Farinelli and the King: VERY well sung, yet the plot completely fell apart!
Prince of Broadway: a fun showcase.
Now that you’ve got my top picks, let me know what your favorite shows of the season were!

Ticket Deals!
A night at the theater can be expensive. Whether it be the $90 seats in the nosebleed section or the $5 bottles of water, Broadway breaks the bank. However, when you spend a bit more time exploring ticketing options, it soon becomes clear that Broadway can be much more affordable than it presents itself. Without further ado, my favorite discount websites.
1. TDF
For about $35 per year, you can access deals for shows in and around New York, including Broadway shows. Prices will never be above $49 per ticket. You must qualify to get these discounts.
2. Goldstar
Goldstar is also good for general discounts, not just theater. Prices will vary per show but can even sometimes be comps. I was recently able to purchase a ticket to Head Over Heels at $10 less than list price.
3. Stubhub
Yes, Stubhub is the land of Hamil-scalpers. But when you know how to play your cards right, you can snag some unbelievable prices. If you’re feeling risky, check the website for tickets to your show day of. Scalpers or even regular people who want to get at least something for their unsold tickets will drop their resale prices incredibly low. I was able to see The Band’s Visit for $18.50 and Frozen for $30 this way.
4. Show Score
Show Score is a theater review community and another hub for coupons. Members can score shows they have seen. After scoring six shows, they are eligible for Member Night deals, comped tickets (with a $5-$10 handling fee) for New York shows, and sometimes Broadway shows. I went to Children of a Lesser God for $10 using their services. Show Score also serves as a wonderful cost database. When you search for a show on this website, they compile all of the prices from each website so you can get the best deal.
5. Broadwayforbrokepeople
This is a website run by another theatergoer. It lists all of the rush and lottery information for most shows on Broadway. Rush and lottery tickets can often get you a ticket that’s at least half off of the prices in the back rows and a seat that is probably better than what you paid for. Tickets tend to be around $30-$40 dollars. I will be expanding on this in a future post!
That’s all for now. Of course, there are many more websites that I am extremely grateful for that keep my spending in check. Good luck!
