     i’m in this weird cycle where i’ll drink a LOT of obnoxiously strong coffee for a whole day and not eat anything, and then around 9pm i’ll start to Feel It so i’ll try to subdue it with food and a lot of water. and then i’m just shaky until like, 5am, and this has genuinely become my saturday ritual ?

     -- that certainly sounds like talking bad about a person, lynda. she stands before her leader, hands on her hips, pout in place. a frizzy ponytail brushes against pale shoulders with the crisp autumn breeze. normally she was just fine taking orders and going with the flow, but this was an outrage ! bad enough she was already semi-slacking off, now the whole team is crumbling to pieces ? oh, the horror !

     whatever she was feeling right now could only be described as survivor’s guilt. in other words, feng min was doing a wonderful patch job on that generator & lynda, ever the antsy and eager, blew it up three tries in a row and got the other woman caught. she ducked out, she found the hatch after some mindless scrambling, and she was celebratory at first-- but now it’s biting her in the ass ‘cause she’s fully aware she didn’t deserve that escape. 

       “ i’m real sorry about-- y’know. that. it’s just--                i can’t get the hang of those damned things ! how do you always do it ? “

     she did ! she totally did. the redhead was with some group of people-- and a dog. there was a dog. lynda remembered that dog most of all. dogs are cute. the blonde wasn’t exactly paying attention to what was being said about this particular crew, however. it was during her breakfast time. when her mother has the television set on, and lynda herself is far too busy munching down on toast and orange juice to really care about what’s up in the world. she didn’t catch the other’s name. or business.

     “ laaaaurie -- “ how the girl whines childishly. you’d seldom believe she was a year older than her friend, what with the other already being much more mature than she could ever dream of being. lynda wasn’t bothered by this. in fact, she got a good laugh out of it. it amused her, how she could go waste away her life with fun & games while good little laurie sat at home and did her homework. you might think she’d envy her companion’s ability to focus on work that would certainly hold importance come graduation, or find her too ‘ bookish ‘ to eat lunch with. but such couldn’t be further from the case. if anything, she helped lynda. in more ways than one. one of those buddies you wouldn’t trade for the world. & she never felt more comfortable than she did wrapped in a damp towel, filing her nails, on laurie’s bedroom floor.
