Something I often think about yet never see anyone talk about is SOCIAL MEDIA IN THE AOAS WORLD. Like, there's so much potential that is just unexplored????
YouTube video essays titled "A Deep Dive into TonistTok" or "The Horrors of UnsavoryTok"
Tiktoks like "Pov: That one girl who's sibling just became a scythe" or "That one aunt who just turned her 102397428th corner"
Entire subreddits dedicated to individual scythes and fandoms that go wild everytime a new journal of their fave is added to the Library of Alexandria
YouTube channels dedicated to recording and uploading every mass gleaning by Goddard and his gang
Professional partiers advertising their services on Instagram
Loads and loads of memes complaining about unsavories or bashing tonists
Are there famous YouTubers who collab with scythes? "Today's interview with the Grande Dame of Death" (she would not agree to that)
Maybe there's a small fandom out there dedicated to figuring out as many details about the "seven years" with Curaday as possible
Does the Thunderhead get involved with social media? It definitely sees everything (which is both a blessing and a curse)
Are scythes allowed social media accounts? Are there scythes out there posting GRWMs on TikTok or making YouTube videos explaining Scythedom rules to non-scythes? Maybe a scythe has a secret Tumblr blog where she reblogs cat pictures and complains about scythe life- I'd pay money to see that
I think I'm probably a little too chronically online but like... This is such an interesting possibility that never gets explored ever???

I love Arc of a Scythe to bits, but I need to get something off my chest.
The Thunderhead, as a benevolent being who is infinitely wise and loving of all humanity, would never eradicate disability. It would recognize that human diversity of all kinds is beautiful and respect disabled people’s right to exist as we are, because the idea of genetically/chemically/physically altering the human population to cure all disabilities is, uh, eugenics. Claiming that disabled people don’t fit into an “ideal society" is very very wrong.
What if instead of curing disabilities, the Thunderhead uses all its knowledge and technology to accommodate everyone’s needs in incredibly accurate and compassionate ways? Imagine the cool as hell mobility aids and prosthetics it could easily create, for example. Imagine how it could guide society in a way that accommodates, values, and respects neurodivergence? Etcetera.
Of course, every individual would have nuance and choice in the matter, but many disabled people wouldn't want to change or remove such an impactful aspect of who we are. I love the Thunderhead as a character, and it's supposed to love us too.

No cause i had to stop and stare at the pages in the toll where Jericho got introduced, the way that her gender-fluidity was described is so fucking beautiful and amazing. I was awe struck seeing the casual yet in depth representation that isnt just a one off thing. Jeri the beloved💕

Another fantastic aspect of aoas is that the three most popular main character ships are classic teen angst, sad middle aged weirdos, and god’s most unethical love triangle

tbh i'm kinda disappointed that goddard didn't get to see the scythe diamonds explode. especially when he was ready to go swim in them like he's scrooge mcduck.

Perhaps one of the best parts of aoas is that Goddard chose wrong. He needed someone that he could appeal to all the worst parts of, someone he could manipulate with praise and promises of greatness. Rowan was always too compassionate to become a mini-Goddard, he had a brief bit with "Man, having the people around me acknowledge my accomplishments is actually kinda nice" but he pushes past Goddard's attempts at manipulation because he's just too damn moral!
Now, compare this to Citra. Rowan describes her as competitive by nature, and seeking approval (namely from Faraday). Citra's inner monologue reveals to us that, originally, she despises the thought of being a scythe, but hates losing so bad, she keeps going. Not to mention, Citra kicks ass at diplomacy, and at it's core, and is scarily good at rallying key people to her cause. Several Scythes call attention to her political skills and, even though she had some higher-ups in her pocket, she's very good at picking out dangerous loopholes and technicalities. A tactic that Goddard explicitly uses when he changes the definition of bias!
It goes the same for Scythe Curies as well. Citra outright tells her that, "If you wanted a student of observation, you should have picked Rowan." Citra learns best by doing, she cannot see the dullness Scythe Curie's gleaned have until she practices gleaning with her. Rowan learns by observing and reacting. He's always weighing options and stalling for time to cook up a better plan. Citra eventually learns to mimic this, but it is defiantly not a skill set she possess in the first half of book one. Not to mention, she pushed a girl in front of a bus when she was like, EIGHT. Curie has her rectify this and apologize, but I could totally see Goddard twisting that darker part of Citra.
IN CONCLUSION, Goddard wrote a self-fulfilling prophecy when he decided to be a jackass and try to corrupt one of Faraday's students after pitting them against one another. That you for coming to my ridiculously long TED Talk.

Something that makes the world feel very real to me, is that people aren't in awe of their technology. There's a scene where someone has to have his eyes fully regrown, which will take several days, and he remarks that it doesn't seem like "speed healing" to him. That's so realistic.
Much like people today get annoyed if a website takes a bit of time to load. In everyday life, we don't often marvel at the advancements we have. Just as they don't.
A common thread in the books is the concept that people can adjust to anything if Givin enough time. They're not impressed by the thunderhead or the ability to turn a corner or any of the other sifi wonders. It's their normal.

stupid quirks i noticed in scythe
i should be asleep rn, but instead i’m up talking about random things i noticed in a book
1. citra curls herself into a ball when stressed. she does it twice as far as i know (once in scythe, once in toll) and i think it’s amazing
2. rowan is ironically a champagne drinker
3. chomsky is the type of person to say “im so telling mom” when his sibling does something bad
4. rand. thank you, goodnight
5. goddard has long nails. he’s fabulous and i love him
6. finally, this may just be my dumb brain rambling but goddards robe is blue and rands is green. green and blue are complimentary colors. was this maybe a conscious decision on rands part?
