What is Radio Broadcast?
Radio broadcasting is defined as using radio waves to send transmissions to a large audience, who will listen to the transmission through a radio. It simply refers to an audio form of communication, and using radio waves, an electromagnetic radiation to broadcast from a transmitter to a receiving antenna. In order to transmit the same kind of programming, stations are connected to all the radio networks.
What is Music?
Music is an art of sound in time that expresses ideas and emotions insignificant forms through the elements of rhythm, melody, harmony, and color.
What is Sound Recording?
It is the transcription of vibrations in air that are perceptible as sound onto a storage medium, such as a compact disc. is the storage of sound so that a person can hear the same sound more than once. It is a process wherein sound waves are captured by a machine.
What is Audio Podcast?
The word “podcasting” is a portmanteau combining the words “broadcasting” and “iPod.” It is the preparation and distribution of audio files using RSS (Really Simple Syndication) to the computers of subscribed users. Podcasting is a form of audio broadcasting on the Internet.
How do we store audio media? What are the different ways of storing audio media?
Now a days we can store our sounds or audio media as a mp3 file, wave file, etc. And these can be sotred in a CD, External Hard Disks, USB, external memory cards, in the cloud, your computer and phones. But back then Audio can be stored in mixtapes, vynil discs, and magnetic tapes and strings, and there are some myths at audio were stored into clay vases.
What are the different audio file formats?
There are different audio file formats in this digital age, like MP3, AAC, WMA Lossy, Wave, ATRAC, OGG, AAC, .GSM, .DCT, .AU, .AIFF, .Vox, .Raw and FLAC.
What are the different characteristics of sound?
Loudness is a physiological sensation. It depends mainly on sound pressure but also on the spectrum of the harmonics and the physical duration. The intensity of sound, at a given distance, depends upon the amplitude of the waves.
Pitch refers to how low or high a sound is.The pitch of a sound depends on its frequency. A high pitch sound has a high frequency and a low pitch sound has a low frequency.
"Quality" or "Timbre" describes those characteristics of sound which allow the ear to distinguish sounds which have the same pitch and loudness. Timbre is then a general term for the distinguishable characteristics of a tone.Timbre is mainly determined by the harmonic content of a sound and the dynamic characteristics of the sound such as vibrato and the attack-decay envelope of the sound.
What is the difference between hearing and listening?
Hearing is a skill where you use your ears only. It one of the five senses. Listening uses different senses, like the sense of hearing, seeing, or sense of touch. Listening is a skill that lets the sound you hear go through your brain to process the meaning of it.

RESEARCH ACTIVITY
What is Visual Media and Information?
Visual Media and Information are materials, programs, applications and the like that teachers and students use to formulate new information to aid learning through the use, analysis, evaluation and production of visual images.
What are the types of visual media?
Typography - art and technique of arranging type, type design, and modifying type glyphs.
Graphic Design - print or electronic forms of visual information, as for an advertisement, publication, or website.
Infographics - visual representation of information which conveys an otherwise intricate source of data.
Cartoons - sketch or drawing, usually humorous, as in a newspaper or periodical, symbolizing, satirizing, or caricaturing some action, subject, or person of popular interest.
Photography - process or art of producing images of objects on sensitized surfaces by the chemical action of light or of other forms of radiant energy.
Motion Pictures - sequence of consecutive pictures of objects photographed in motion by a specifically designed camera and thrown on a screen by a projector in such rapid succession as to give the illusion of natural movement.
Television and Videos - The broadcasting of a still or moving image via radio waves to receivers that project a view of the image on a picture tube.
Computers - Images derived from an electronic device designed to accept data, perform prescribed mathematical and logical operations at high speed, and display the results of these operations.
Networked Interactive Multimedia - Images derived from the combined use of several media, as sound and full-motion video in computer applications with internet connection.
What is the difference between formally and informally produced visual media?
Visual media produced by formal organizations such as schools, government, and established media/publishing outfits. Other visual media are considered informally produced.
What is the purpose of visual information?
The primary purpose of visual information is to gain attention, create meaning, and facilitate retention.
What are the different visual design elements?
a. Line – describes a shape or outline. It can create texture and can be thick or thin. Lines may be actual, implied, vertical, horizontal, diagonal, or contour lines.
b. Shape – usually a geometric area that stands out from the space next to or around it, or because of differences in value, color, or texture. Shape may also be organic.
c. Value – the degree of light and dark in a design. It is the contrast between black and white and all the tones in between. Value can be used with color as well as black and white. Contrast is the extreme changes between values.
d. Texture – the way a surface feels or is perceived to feel. Texture can be added to attract or repel interest to a visual element. Visual texture is the illusion of the surfaces peaks and valleys, resulting in a feeling of smoothness or roughness in objects.
e. Color – determined by its hue (name of color), intensity (purity of the hue), and value (lightness or darkness of hue). Color and color combination can play a large role in the design. Color may be used for emphasis, or may elicit emotions from viewers. Color maybe warm, cool, or neutral. It plays a major role in our visual perception, as it influences our reactions about the world around us. It is therefore important to create color palettes that evoke the appropriate audience reactions. Color has three properties.
f. Form – a figure having volume and thickness. An illusion of a 3-dimensional object can be implied with the use of light and shading. Form can be viewed from many angles.
What are the visual design principles?
a. Consistency of margins, typeface, typestyle, and colors is necessary, especially in slide presentations or documents that are more than one page.
b. Center of interest – an area that first attracts attention in a composition. This area is more important when compared to the other objects or elements in a composition. This can be by contrast of values, more colors, and placement in the format.
c. Balance – a feeling of visual equality in shape, form, value, color, etc. Balance can be symmetrical and evenly balanced, or asymmetrical and unevenly balanced. Objects, values, colors, textures, shapes, forms, etc. can be used in creating balance in a composition.
d. Harmony – brings together a composition with similar units. If for example your composition was using wavy lines and organic shapes, you would stay with those types of lines and not put in just one geometric shape. (Notice how similar Harmony is to Unity - some sources list both terms).
e. Contrast – offers some change in value creating a visual discord in a composition. Contrast shows the difference between shapes and can be used as a background to bring objects out and forward in a design. It can also be used to create an area of emphasis.
f. Directional Movement – a visual flow through the composition. It can be the suggestion of motion in a design as you move from object to object by way of placement and position. Directional movement can be created with a value pattern. It is with the placement of dark and light areas that you can move your attention through the format.
g. Rhythm – a movement in which some elements recur regularly. Like a dance, it will have a flow of objects that will seem to be like the beat of music.
h. Perspective – created through the arrangement of objects in two dimensional space to look like they appear in real life. Perspective is a learned meaning of the relationship between different objects seen in space.  —MIL Learning Diary Note

The Anxiety Over the Impact of Technology on Children
— MIL Learning Diary Note 1. What is the stand of Mr. Nicholas Carr on the issue? Is he on the affirmative or on the negative? What are his arguments?
-Nicholas Carr is on the affirmative side because he stated that kids brain are in the process being formed and they should be exposed with different experiences instead of putting their attention to the screens which makes them more curious with different things.
2. What is the stand of Ms. Genevieve Bell on the issue? Is she on the affirmative or on the negative? What are her arguments?
-Genevieve Bell stated that she was anxious over technology and also stated that a diversity of experiences is a good thing but the reality is kids are not using new technology and there are lots of places in the world where their cultures are technology is introduced to the children.
3. Do you think elementary school children should be allowed to own smart phones? Explain.
-Yes, because in this generation, smart phones can make everything easy. Children using these smart phones would be able to open up their minds to the reality where every person uses it. But even if they’re allowed, there should be someone to guide the children when using it for them to be aware what they should do and to be aware of their limitations as a user.  — MIL Learning Diary Note

Ubiquitous learning can be defined as an everyday learning environment that is supported by mobile and embedded computers and wireless networks in our everyday life. According to Ogata & Yano (2003) based on Chen (2002) and Curtis (2002), the main characteristics of ubiquitous learning are the following:
Permanency: Learners never lose their work unless it is purposefully deleted. In addition, all the learning processes are recorded continuously everyday.
Accessibility: Learners have access to their documents, data, or videos from anywhere. That information is provided based on their requests. Therefore, the learning involved is self-directed.
Immediacy: Wherever learners are, they can get any information immediately. Thus, learners can solve problems quickly. Otherwise, the learner can record the questions and look for the answer later.
Interactivity: Learners can interact with experts, teachers, or peers in the form of synchronies or asynchronous communication. Hence, the experts are more reachable and the knowledge becomes more available.
Situating of instructional activities: The learning could be embedded in our daily life. The problems encountered as well as the knowledge required are all presented in their natural and authentic forms. This helps learners notice the features of problem situations that make particular actions relevant.
Adaptability: Learners can get the right information at the right place with the right way.
Massive open online course (MOOC) is a free Web-based distance learning program that is designed for the participation of large numbers of geographically dispersed students.
Example: Duolingo is a language learning platform used by more than 70 million people worldwide. Accessible to anyone with an internet connection, this is fun and easy way to learn a new language.
Wearable technology is clearly gadgets you wear, but there are important distinctions.
Example: Fitness trackers come in all sorts of shapes, sizes, and levels of sophistication too. Usually worn on the wrist or clipped to a belt, they’re generally bands or watches of some sort which will keep a count of the number of steps you make each day.
3D Environments are often referred to as virtual reality or interactive 3D and have a figurative appearance. Much like our own world, this type of world allows interaction with other (networked) beings as well as manipulation of objects. It has two types:
Desk-top virtual reality (Users look at the world on a screen, typically used for gaming or social worlds).
Immersive virtual reality (Users are immersed).
Example: Open Cobalt Alpha is the first step in a long term project to make available a free and open source platform for constructing, accessing, and sharing hyperlinked virtual workspaces for research and education.
Beyond these trends, I personally choose the MOOC or Massive Open Online Course because it is very convenient and it can help a lot of people who can’t afford to enroll on a school. They will be able to learn new things because of MOOC since it is a free Web-based learning wherein you get to choose what course you would like to take up. — MIL Learning Diary Note

Prevent Computer Addiction
This blog aims to find out the answer of the following questions:
1. From the research, do boys and girls share the same Internet usage? Explain your answer. Cite statistics or data.
2. Cite one real life example in your school or community of teenagers who have experienced computer addiction. What happen to them? Have they recovered from their addiction?
3. Give two pieces of advice from Tablets for Schools to avoid computer addiction.
What is Computer Addiction?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It is characterized by an uncontrolled desire and following use of the internet or the computer that results in negative consequences socially, financially, physically, emotionally or otherwise for the user. A preoccupation with computers can lead to problems with relationships, problems with productivity or problems with self-care and hygiene.
 https://www.addictions.com/computer/
Question #1:
From the research, do boys and girls share the same Internet usage? Explain your answer. Cite statistics or data.
Base on the news article on computer addiction: “Four in ten teenage girls ‘are addicted to internet: Youngsters increasingly showing signs of compulsion with their tablets and smart phones”,
They did a survey, which questioned more than 2,000 secondary school pupils aged 11 to 17. The figure was higher among girls at 46 per cent, whereas 36 per cent of boys thought they were addicted. Most were using phone or computer to talk to friends on social media, watch films or video and play games. Nearly two-thirds or 64 percent of the pupils said they took their gadgets to bed with them. The poll found that girls spent more time chatting to friends on social networks while boys were more absorbed by computer games.
A 11-year-old girl said that she can never get off of using or browsing Internet and at night she stay up for two to three hours after she meant to be asleep. Then, a 12-year-old girl said that Internet nearly always controls her actions. She told that she is addicted to the internet, and prefer its company rather than being with other people. Another girl said that if she had no wifi she would have no life. Lastly, one girl commented that she get nervous when she’s not on the Internet for a long a time and she feel like she’s missing something. And one 12-year-old boy said that it’s the first thing that he look at in the morning and the last thing at night and it seems he’s constantly on it.
The study found that boys were more likely than girls to use video games as a channel for conversation, while girls tended to keep up with friends through texting and social media.
Question #2:
Cite one real life example in your school or community of teenagers who have experienced addiction to computer. What happen to them? Have they recovered from their addiction?
One example is a kid who would stay up late using his gadgets to play games. He would play anytime and anywhere he wants. He doesn’t want to play outside even if his parents want him to just play outside rather than to play or use gadgets. It ended up for having no time to study. He’s going to school but his mind is with his gadget and waiting for the time of their dismissal so he can play or use his gadget. If they’re having a quiz or test in school, he gets low scores or grades because of not studying and took all his time for playing. His teacher reported to his parents about getting a low grades. The kid’s parents decided to confiscate all his gadgets to teach him a lesson, and for him to realize that he should be responsible enough and should set his boundaries with using his gadgets and playing games.
Question #3:
Give two pieces of advice from Tablets for Schools to avoid computer addiction.
First, tablets should be use just in the school and students can able to use it just in the time of their class and time where it is needed like when students have a research or assignments to do. Second, tablets should be organized where social media sites are blocked and they can only access are sites that are connected for researching such as Google.

RMS in the Modern Times
The Royal Mail Ship Titanic or RMS Titanic is one of the largest and most luxurious ocean liners that was built. It was designed by William Pirrie, an Irish shipbuilder, and it was thought to be the world’s fastest ship. However, the titanic’s failure to divert its course from an iceberg is the cause why it sank. To answer the question, if the titanic sank today, a lot of people could’ve been rescued because of the fast updates and communication. In this period of time, the technology could help a lot in kind of situations. The ship could have the latest radio that can be used for communicating so that they could report the incident through it. Also, the social media can be used to inform everyone about what is happening. Due to countless users of social media, they can spread the news in just a snap so that everyone would be aware. Having the news on the newspaper or having it aired on the television surely takes time but unlike the technologies today, it can spread the news in just an instant. Everyone depends on the media, it lets them know about the happenings and it also entertain them but people should be cautious to know if the news is true. — Assignment 01

What is Media and Information Literacy?
Media and lnformation Literacy aims to develop students to be a critical thinker and helps them to create new knowledge that makes them creative in their own ways. These days, media had been playing a big role in our lives and because of it, we tend to depend on media. We interact with other people using media in our everyday lives and makes it easy for them to be aware of what is happening around them because of the fast updates. Media and information literacy’s purpose is to make people be engaged in a digital society so that everyone would be able to use, understand, inquire, create, communicate, and think critically. But on the other side, not everything that you see on media is real. You have to be deceiving and more cautious to know if it’s true or not.
The use of media is actually a big help because everyone would be aware of their surroundings. MIL would also make people to be a responsible media user. They should think about every act they’re about to do because everything has its own positive and negative consequences. In this generation, people would find it very hard and difficult to live without the media because everyone depends on it. They would see life dull and boring but it could also help them to be more productive on their everyday lives. — MIL Learning Diary Note
