When Elsa meets the memory of her grandfather, Runeard, he says, “The Northuldra follow magic. This is why they cannot be trusted.”

Elsa is surprised and shocked at this statement, and increasingly gets more upset as Runeard continues with: “Magic makes people feel too powerful, too entitled. It makes them think they can defy the will of a King.”

Elsa’s defiant response of, “That is not what magic does. It’s just your fear.”

Elsa’s response comes from experience.

Elsa knows better than anyone that magic doesn’t make you feel too powerful. For over half of her life, she felt hopeless at controlling her magic and always felt like a burden and a curse to the world. Elsa’s own fear is her Achilles heel to control over her gift and that is another thing she know intimately well. Fear can make even the best of us do things we would never mean to do.

Elsa’s growth from a scared little girl who hated what made her special into this strong, confident young woman who learns from her past is astounding!
