"Spare the rod and spoil the child "

This phrase from the book of proverb 13:24, has been misinterpreted by so many African parents giving them the rights or excuse to subjects their children to physical or verbal assault due to some cultural beliefs concerning instilling discipline in children through tough punishments that might cause physical and emotional damages to them and seeing their parents as a villains or a threat to their life.

I could remember vividly, a ten year old boy who broke his leg at the news of the arrival of his mother which he was trying to tidy up the room before his mum comes in. In this type of situation we could sense the spirit of fear having negative impact on the child which can actually cause mental damage to the child.

We might have also heard some parents creating scars on their children's body with different forms of sharp objects as a form of discipline to a disobedient child, which have resulted in physical damage to their body, imaging having a scar on your face that would not clear despite all the products used on it, and People calling you sort of names due to the scar on your face,This can actually reduced a child self esteem.

Parents needs to start neglecting the Physical abuse or hurling insult at their children as a form of discipline. They should try to embrace the communication technique as a way to discipline their child by sitting them down, telling them stories with moral lessons and assisting them in meditating God's words in their daily life either being a Christian or a Muslim. They should avoid using abusive words at them instead motivate and tell them the reasons they should be a obedient child biblically. And if, a child appears to be strong headed, place him in the hands of God or to a child affair counsellor.
