also i forgot to add. i am aware of the fact that this was never meant to be part of his character since they literally only changed his name because of the whole lawsuit thing. if that never happened im sure they'd be glad to keep his name as jesse mccree especially with how inconsistent and lackluster they implemented this whole thing (there are post ow2 release moments where, even though the event currently happening is set around/during ow1 where he would've still been going by mccree, people still called him cassidy anyway). but like yknow theres barely any actual lore in overwatch so im going to take what we got and run so far away with it

#i dont know the exact timeline of things but. i would assume he started going by jesse mccree around the time he met ashe#and he was like 16 at the time? hes 2 years younger than ashe who was turning 18. prime age for some gender exploring#and then he kept the name for about 20 years give or take since he was 36 in ow1#sometime in between 1 and 2 he changed his name back to cole cassidy#that just sounds to me like a guy who finally figured out who he wanted to be and felt comfortable being who he was after a long time#but yknow i aint a big ow guy i just like men and i turn men i like trans however i can you dont have to listen to me#allyanswers#anonymous#i like that i said 'i dont know the exact timeline of things' and then i gave a really cohesive timeline of things#the neurodivergence in me it remembers everything it reads on wiki pages
