You: When I Started To Breathe

This project needs to be completed independently by myself, there is no fixed theme, everything is decided by ourselves. To be honest, I was very confused about this topic at first, and I didn't know how to choose. In the end I decided to use the name of this project as my theme: you. This topic is about myself. I want to design an album for myself. I am twenty years old. By inquiring related information, I found that scientists' research shows that the average human life expectancy is currently around 80 years old. So I have spent a quarter of my life. If I express the person's life in clocks, I have just spent a quarter of the space now. If the pointer rotates clockwise from twelve o'clock, it should point to three at this moment. I also thought that people's life is so long, so for everyone, when can they feel that life has been meaningful? This is a very subjective question. For me, every minute of my life has been meaningful as long as I breathe. This idea inspired me. When a person starts to breathe, it means the beginning of his life. So my theme is: When I Start To Breathe. After deciding on the theme, I was thinking, the first sound a person makes when they are born is the sound of breathing. In other words, the sound of breathing symbolizes the beginning of life. So I hope to integrate the sound into my work. I tried to record the breathing of me and my parents. These sounds are displayed in the form of sound waves on the computer, and this pattern has inspired me again. Why not combine sound waves and clocks? My cover was born. After finishing the cover, I started to design the inner pages and CD. My initial thought is to use hand-painted to reflect my mood. So I tried different brushes and colors and drew two sketches about pressure. After the tutorial, the teacher suggested that I need to draw a few more different forms of hand-painting. So I changed my mind and decided to draw four different moods to make them into a group of pictures. They reflect my stress, sadness, joy and heartbeat. This project is really difficult, because everything is decided by myself, too large a range will make me overwhelmed. Fortunately, one-on-one tutorials helped me a lot. After each tutorial, I got a lot of great suggestions and information, which helped me complete the final work.

GFS: Time On The Glacier

When we started this project, the first thing we thought about was the theme. What we need to make is a calendar, and the calendar often reflects the passage of time. How to use this?
When we accidentally watched the exhibition, we saw the work of Scandinavian artist Olafur elisasson in the Tate Modern. Putting many huge ice cubes in the city of London and watching them gradually melt, it reminds us of the melting iceberg. So I searched a lot of information on the NASA official website. From these data, it can be seen that the melting of icebergs is a manifestation of environmental degradation, and the degree of integration is increasing year by year. Combined with the environmental protection theme of this project, we identified iceberg melting as our theme. There are many pictures about oil painting and hand-painting in the mood board we were looking for, so our first attempt started with oil paint. We tried to create with different materials, such as scrapers, brushes and fingers. Finally, after the group discussion, we determined the finger version. After completing the basic patterns, we began to tried to merge our hand drawing with the calendar. We took a screenshot after moving it a little bit, as the first page of each month in the calendar. When the user turns over the calendar, the first page of each month gradually turns blue, representing the melting of the iceberg. During the group discussion, we decided to design the package to be torn apart. The part that can be torn off on the outer packaging is the pattern of the iceberg, and the upper part of the cover of the calendar is the ocean. When the user tears the outer packaging, the inside cover is exposed. When designing the inside pages, we also thought of using the outline of the iceberg as the basic pattern. So we tried to draw the outlines of twelve icebergs, which looked very good. We have encountered many disagreements in this project, and sometimes did not know how to continue. For example, after we finished hand-painting in the beginning, because the painting was too large, the details of the oil painting materials could not be photographed. So we thought of going to school to scan. Finally, we went to the library of the LCC and successfully scanned out our hand-painted electronic version. And because of the different preferences of our team members, we spent almost a whole day in choosing fonts. In short, through group discussions and tutorials, we finally made a satisfactory finished product. This project is really not easy to do, although the process is not so smooth, we have learned a lot from it. I think cooperation is very beneficial to everyone. Each of us is good at different areas, so we can do our jobs and learn from each other to complete the work most effectively.

This project is very practical and will be of great help to our future work. This is my first time to design fonts, and I find it very novel and interesting. In the process of learning how to use the software, I met many difficulties, but I finally solved them. The tutor gave me a lot of help. I was inspired by tetris, and that was the inspiration for my final poster as well.

Editorial

Before we started the design of this project, we chose one of the 79 papers as the topic of this project.
My topic is: what's the relationship between design and bullshit?
This is a really interesting topic, and this essay is interesting enough to read. To complement this bold and interesting essay, I hope my design page is modernist and full of fun. The black and white on the front and back cover contrast with the color on the inside, surprising the reader. Participating in tutorials of the school made me get great Suggestions and made the final revision.

Branding

Branding is a very interesting project for me, because I have never worked on such a project before. It's not just about designing a pattern or a logo, it's also about thinking about the meaning of the brand. At first I was a little confused about how to choose the topic. After tutorial, I knew more about what needed to be done in this project. Finally, I chose the music festival as the theme. I like this project very much. I think it will be of great help to my future employment. This is the first time I've been involved in a commercial project. I also learned how to mix my interests with commercial projects.

More than Modernism

This project uses the randomness of the printer to represent the cultures of different regions. When I first came to this project, I didn't understand it very well, because I had never experienced that special function of the printer, so I just found as many materials as possible. But when we went to print it, I felt the magic of this project. Every time we printed the result, it was random. It was really interesting. We put the works of each group on the wall together, which look incredible and make people feel the culture and aesthetics of different regions.

The project didn't get off to a good start. We have fewer members than the other teams. And our script wasn't finalized because the guy who wrote it stuck to his guns, but his script was hard to shoot. So there was a lot of debate in our group, and it took us a long time. But in the end we settled on an improved script and shot the story we wanted. I was in charge of the shooting part of the project. Before shooting, I watched many videos about shooting techniques, wrote down specific shooting plans, and prepared cameras, tripods and other equipment. There was a lot of preparation so it went really well when we started shooting. I'm generally satisfied with the video we've produced. And through this project, I feel the fun of video shooting. Different shots can express different feelings and atmosphere, which makes me feel very magical.

Unit 5: Week 10

This is a very interesting project. When I first saw the project brief, I was a little confused because I thought most souvenirs were similar. But when I visited the UAL Not Just a Shop, I saw many interesting items that were not only for sale as souvenirs, but also full of artistry. But tourists usually don't buy too expensive souvenirs. So I started to think, how can I connect artistry with a souvenir that's very cheap in cost. This is a group project, so before dividing into groups I always hope to be assigned to excellent team members. Fortunately, all my team members were enthusiastic, so we exchanged contact information and discussed the general ideas together. Our first idea was to make a calendar, but the tutor's advice to us during the tutorial was not to be too common, but to do something that could only be bought in London. Calendars are too common. What about Christmas calendars? The popular Christmas calendar is made up of a number of small boxes, each of which is opened with a different surprise. Based on this inspiration, we made the final decision. Our group decided to assign different tasks according to each person's specialty. My task is graphic design, so I tried to use the hand-painted style to show the London attractions. Our tutor and my team members thought this was a great idea, so we used this design. The part of the box was done by my team, and I have to say they did a really good job. Each of us designed a different card, each card representing an interesting place in London, and then put them in the box we finished. I think our final product is really great, it has a delicate look and it's fun to use. In the group cooperation, we also encountered problems and had different opinions, but we successfully overcame these difficulties. I think the great advantage of our group is that we are really good at communication. During this project, we met and discussed in the restaurant whenever we had time. If all our group members do not have time to meet together, we will discuss with each other privately. So if there is a problem or disagreement, we can solve it immediately.
I learned a lot from this project, both in terms of group cooperation and product design. In terms of group cooperation, there is a need for a lot of communication and mutual understanding among the group members, because everyone has different ideas. The group project is always a problem. Because the process of every group project is a process of creating conflicts and resolving conflicts. Although this is stressful for me, I think more group projects can help us learn to better deal with different opinions and ideas between groups.
All in all, we met with difficulties and failures in this project, but we finally got the excellent product we wanted. I believe that during this process, every member of our team learned and gained a lot.

Unit 5: Week 7

In today's tutorial we showed the tutor the rough results. Today's tutorial is not personal, so we also saw some works of other students. After discussing with our tutor, we changed our idea a little. We decided to make some openable boxes with little cards about London. This box is not only a memory for visitors leaving London, but also a guide. We are going to draw a hand-drawn picture of each spot on the card and write a description. When the buyer opens and pulls out one card, he or she can go to the restaurant or scenic spot in the description to experience the local character of London. After finalizing the idea, we are going to make ten cards for each person.

Unit 5: Week 6

For the second group discussion, we showed the tutor the graphic design of our cover and the sample of our box. Our tutor is satisfied with our current progress, so we are going to continue with the original idea. We think each box should have a different view of London, or something interesting about London. So we each assigned several London boroughs to find interesting places to put in boxes. Our tutor and team members like my hand-painted London attractions, so we decided to continue using this design.

Unit 5:Week 5

We had a tutorial with our teacher today. Since it was the first discussion, we didn't have many finished products. We just described our ideas and references to the tutor. The teacher read our reference and gave us many Suggestions. According to the teacher's suggestion, we discussed together for a long time after class, and roughly determined our direction, and assigned everyone's task. We are going to make some semi-finished products to show to the teacher before the next tutorial. Sarah and I are going to use illustrator to draw a map of London for the cover of our calendar. The other members are going to make some half-finished boxes as preliminary models of the calendar.

Unit 5: Week 4

Our itinerary today is to visit the Museum of London. We had met and discussed this before today, so we had an idea: make a calendar. In the museum we split up to look for objects we were interested in. One of them was a very interesting model of a building in London, so we started trying to make calendar boxes into buildings. We experimented with several stereo boxes and discussed the colors we wanted to use.

Unit 5: Week 3

Today we discussed our initial ideas together. We want to make a calendar. we want to do mixed media, some with prints/illustrations/graphics/ and textiles. Visitors to London often want to make memories. So we wanted to design a calendar, in the form of a Christmas calendar, but with memories of being in London. The calendar will consist of a number of small boxes that the buyer can fill in, or we can design the contents of the box. We also thought about the shape of the box and the contents of the box. We wanted it to be artistic and meaningful. Because when a tourist buys a souvenir, it should be permanent and full of memories, not thrown away when they go home.

Unit 5: Week 2

Today we are divided into different groups according to the project. My team members are enthusiastic and have a lot of great ideas. Sarah and I were adept at using graphic design software, and Lezza and Ayoung were adept at making models. Amy is able to make delicate textiles. We briefly discussed our ideas for souvenirs. Then we went to a few souvenir shops on the street and looked closely at the usefulness, appearance and price of the souvenirs they were selling. This is a great help to our later works. Generally speaking, our group is good at communicating and actively organizing group discussion. I think this is a good start.

Unit 5: Week 1

I visited UAL Not Just a Shop with my classmates. There are many interesting designs by UAL’s students. Through observing these works, I thought about the packaging, price, production cost and whether they attract customers to buy. The shop’s main customers are not only tourists, but also art students from other countries and universities. So I think if I design a product, my main audience should be students majoring in art. My merchandise should be artistic.
