Bon Bini! My name is Tiffeny Van den Bulck, I'm 17 years old and I live in Belgium. I'm going to Aruba for 3 weeks to do my internship in the University of Aruba. Here you can find all my adventures, I hope you like it :)
We left on Saturday evening back to Belgium by plane. We had a nice flight. Sunday we landed and I was picked up at the airport by my parents and was able to share all my adventures with them. Now I do feel happy to be back with lots of great memories and experiences and very happy to have met so many new people.
Thanks for following my blog about my Aruba adventure!
My internship is coming to an end and I would like to take you guys through my last days here in Aruba.
Wednesday I started my day independently, working on the tiktok posts I had to make and instagram posts. During the afternoon, I went to a meeting and they also gave me some feedback on the posts I had made. In the afternoon, I went with Charisse to the Renaissance Convention Center where she took me through a bit of what else goes on behind the scenes at events. Afterwards, we sat down together for a bit so she could give me some feedback on the past few weeks. When we were back at UA, Charisse had the evaluation meeting with Marlon.
Thursday I started at the centre of lifelong learning where I finished my zoom manual and worked on assignment that were not yet fully completed. In the afternoon, I was at the Office of Internation Affairs where I answered emails with documents for outgoing students and forwarded them to the right person and I put the documents in the right place in Google drive. In the evening, we went for dinner at Casa Tua Pizzeria where we had a nice Italian meal. Then we drove on to Bugaloe for a drink.
On Friday, I only had to go to university for a few hours to say goodbye to my colleagues. Then I went to the resort to freshen up a bit and went swimming with Merel at Tres Trapi where we saw sea turtles. Afterwards, we went to buy some souvenirs at the local market. Afterwards, we had dinner at amigos and sat on the terrace to enjoy our last evening.
Saturday we had to leave but in the morning we stopped by Tres Trapi because the rest of the group also wanted to see the turtles. Then we went back to freshen up and get something to eat at giannis and leave for the airport.
On Monday, I started my day with a meeting with my supervisor, Charisse. We went over what the last week would look like. Then I spent the rest of the morning working at the Office of International affairs. In the afternoon, I sat back down with Charisse to discuss some more things about the social media posts I need to make and we had another conversation about the brand guidelines and in the evening I read through them again.
Yesterday was a really fun day in the morning Charisse was waiting for us to go to the gold mines where there were also owls. Then we drove on to the Donkey Sanctuary where I also got to feed the donkeys. Then we went back to the university to play a card game with work-related statements, we then had to answer whether we thought it was okay or not. Then I went with Charisse to the print shop where they explained to me a bit more about how they worked there. In the afternoon, I spent time back at the Office of International affairs.
Week 2 is over and I will take you through the last weekend of our internship adventure.
Saturday we got up early to go shopping in Oranjestad for some souvenirs. Then we had to say goodbye to Sara as she was heading back to Belgium. In the evening, we welcomed Marlon and we all had dinner together.
Sunday was a busy day, we got up early to have a quick breakfast and then on to Arikok National Park. We drove the car as far as we could and then went on foot for another 2.5 km to the Natural Pool, Conchi. After refreshing ourselves there and having fun, we moved on to a Boca Keto, a little beach by Little Aruba. After that, Marlon really wanted to take us to 2 caves, Guadirikiri and the Fontein Cave where there are still several drawings of Arawak Indians on the ceilings. Then we also drove to the Natural Bridge and Bushiribana Ruins. Afterwards, we went to refresh ourselves in the cave pool next to the ruins.
I am looking forward to the last week we are here.
The second week is almost over and what a week it was.
On Wednesday, I made some social media posts which I then presented to my supervisor. In the evening we had a meeting and then drove to a high school to explain a bit about the University. When I arrived back at the resort, I got ready to have a drink at 5' o clock somewhere bar and then at bugaloe.
Thursday was O.L.H Hemelvaart so we had an extended weekend and we definitely took advantage of that. We went to Palm Island, an island where you can do various activities. There were slides, different beaches and a banana boat. There were also flamingos but you had to pay money to join them. You could also eat and drink all in. It was a super fun experience.
On Friday we went to mangel halto and then straight on to Baby beach. Then we went to the resort to get something to eat and get ready to go out and watch the sunset.
Definitely a successful start to the weekend! Ayo!
On Monday, I joined a team-building workshop that was being conducted by my internship mentor in the morning. It was a very informative and fun experience. After that, we picked up Merel and Jorrit and went to Parliament of Aruba, where someone gave a presentation on child abuse and child welfare in Aruba. After work, we visited Sint Nicolas to check out the graffiti.
IT WAS SOOO BEAUTIFUL!!!
On Tuesday, the woman from in the parliament came to give her presentation at the University, which we all went to listen to.
In the afternoon, I was at the Office of International Affairs.
We all went to Bugaloe to eat and drink something at the evening.
The first week in Aruba is already over and how it flew by.
On Thursday we went to the national library and then visited some schools including Colegio EPI, San Nicolas and Colegio Oranjestad. In between, we went for a drink at Nikki beach bar. It was really nice to see how things work in schools in other countries because it is completely different from Belgium. That evening, we went to the Zeerover to eat delicious shrimps after work. Afterwards we went for a drink at Bugaloe, a cosy little bar on Palm beach.
Friday we went to the California lighthouse after work and then all went for pizza because no one felt like cooking. Afterwards, we went to Bugaloe.
Saturday I wasn't feeling so good so I stayed at the resort in the morning to rest some more while the others were off to Boca Catalina beach to snorkel. At 4pm we said goodbye to Ms Noyens as she had to leave sadly. Around 7pm Ms Rutten arrived and in the evening we went for a drink at Mambo Jambo.
Sunday was not so sunny but we left early for eagle beach where we stayed until 11am. Then we went grocery shopping and while we were having lunch at the resort it suddenly started to rain. We ended up going up the haystack anyway because Ms Rutten still wanted to do so. In the evening, we ate tasty hot dogs and went for ice cream and then had a drink at the little bar in our Resort. The week has flown by! On to the second week on this beautiful island.
Tuesday I had my first actual internship day. Normally I was at the center for Lifelong Learning, but Monday they told me I would be in 3 different departments namely the Center for Lifelong Learning, Office of International Affairs and the Office of student affaires. Yesterday I started at the centre for Lifelong Learning, here they taught me how to work with Zoom and I'm now writing a procedure for people who want to organise a Zoom webbinar at the University of Aruba. In the afternoon, I helped the international office with entering credits for outgoing students, which are students of the university who took courses abroad.
Yesterday I started the day with a student who runs the Tiktok in the University and we went out together to capture some nice shots. After we had finished, I started to work at the office of student affaires. I first researched how people in Belgium and the Netherlands deal with student cards. Afterwards, they explained to me how they manage school applications.
Then I stayed a bit longer because I got to attend a meeting.
