Title: Site Specfic - Cycles
Medium: Leaves, Flowers, Sticks
Year: 2020
Size: 5′4
Artist Statement:
My site specific pieces are silhouettes made out of different leaves from many bushes and some sticks. I layed down in the grass and cut the leaves and put them under my body to make sure I had a realistic proportions.
My piece is in my dad’s backyard. We live on Kennesaw Mountain and I remembered whenever I would hike up the mountain that there are signs with information about the battles of the Civil War fought on the mountain. I also have been watching a lot of Brooklyn nine-nine which is a TV show about a cop in the 99th precinct in Brooklyn New York. The reason I mention that show is that my first idea was to make the outline of a body that cops use in movies after they have removed a body from a crime scene. How I combined those facts together to tie my piece to the land is that I wanted to make the police outline but more as a memorial to all the people that died fighting in the Civil War.
After some much needed redirection I landed on making the silhouettes out of leaves. The idea was that the leaves would be beautiful and quiet, almost as if the decomposed bodies made the grass flourish into an intricate array of leaves. Obviously the Northern soldiers died many centuries ago but their actions helped put me and people who look like me in a better position then our ancestors.

Title: Experimenting with Drawing- Shapeless
Medium: 11x17 Bristol Paper, Liquidtex Acryclic Paint
Year: 2020
Size: 11in x 17in
Artist Statement:
For this project I created 3 additional 2d paintings using my drawing machine. With 5 drawings in all I cut up each piece into various shapes i.e circles, strips, organic shapes, triangles and squiggly lines. I pasted them onto 11in x 17in Bristol paper that has a 1 solid color on each sheet. I chose to paint circles on 3 of the Bristol paper sheets to enhance the overall piece, while the drawing machine drawings are still the most important thing. The other two Bristol sheets are painted solid breaking up the circles and giving variation.

Title: Drawing Machine- ugly?
Medium: Multi_Media Paper, Cardboard, marbles, PVC pipe
Year: 2020
Size: Paper- 9in x 12in “Machine”L: 11in  W:8.5in  H:1.5ft
Artist Statement:
I made my drawing machine with pvc pipes, a paintbrush, marbles and paint. The pvc pipe is standing as the structure in the shape of a square that is 81/2 by 11 inches. This square is holding up a series of tubes that acts similarly to a water slide where it is hollow in the middle and lead to a piece of paper. I have a paintbrush twist tied to the bottom of the “slide” and it has a dollop of paint on it. When the marble runs though the tubing it hits the paint brush and paints the paper on at the bottom. I have around 10 marbles that I drop down the pipe to the paper and as more and more marbles hit the paper they hit each other as well pushing the paint around more.

Title: Found Objects- Swan Dive
Medium: Plastic Bags, Annealed Black Steel Wire, Fan, Receipt paper, plastic shower rings, phone chargers, hot glue, car parts
Year: 2020
Size: L: 13in H: 15.25
Artist Statement:
I made a swan out of my found objects. The wings are made of the blades of a fan and they really pushed this idea. I then used my box cutter to give the blades more texture and emulate bird wings. I found the base of the bird and the wings from my dad’s car repair shop. I found the charger cables that are holding the base together and the clumped pieces of hard plastic and paper found at the “stomach” region of the bird in a junk drawer in my mom’s house. And somebody in our class gave me some extra trash bags he wasn’t using to wrap the neck of the bird together.
It is symbolic to me that the neck ended up being wrapped with plastic because birds will mistakenly feed on plastic that they see floating in the water which can choke them. Adult birds can regurgitate that plastic that they eat but their chicks cannot which results in their death. Sharp edged plastic if swallowed can puncture internal organs in birds and/or fill up their stomachs so much that it leaves little to no room for food which negatively affects their weight and eventually make them starve themselves.
The body of the bird is made of metal. I am not sure the actual purpose of the metal was before I have used it but reminded and helped me decide to do a swan because it is flat when set down similarly to a swan swimming on top of the water in a stream. The metal also reminds me of industrialization. Big businesses that pump of thousands of products every second typically produce loads of waste with it, often plastic that is then disposed of improperly and these birds are in turn choking on.

Title: Altered Book Piece- Unrefined
Medium: Martha Stewart Cookbook (altered), Tombow ABT Water Based Markers, MIcron Pen 0.5-1
Year: 2020
Size: W:14.5 in L:9in
Artist Statement:
The main objective for this altered book is changing a book by any means that we could complete. The Goal for my design was to emulate a fashion book or magazine that felt like sketches. I wanted the book to feel like a rough sketch to go against the perfection of a real magazine that has zero flaws and can feel unattainable. I also tried to incorporate different races and body sizes in this book to also go against the archetype magazine or what they define as pretty. I got a Martha Stewart Cookbook and I painted over the words in the book because they are irrelevant to my design but I did not completely cover all of the words because I liked the idea of this being secondhand which is more sustainable. I used many bright colors throughout the book to make it feel fun and free. I do not have a reason that I didn’t draw hands of features on the face other than I changed my mind to this idea last minute and I did not have time to focus on these features along with everything else.

Title: Untitled
Medium: 18x24 Multi Medium Paper, Acrylic Paint,
Year: 2020
Size: 18in x 24in
Artist Statement:
Our project is inspired by the famous American minimalist and conceptual artist Sol Lewitt. We were given instructions on executing this artwork which we followed to the best of our ability however conceptualism is based on the idea and execution of the work not necessarily the finalartwork. The main concept is usingprimary, secondary and tertiary colorsleading down the work to make a cohesive artwork out of the three separate parts .The primary colors of the top part of the piece were the only clear instruction given regarding color choices, but the rest was chosen by our group. We chose brighter colors to emulate Sol Lewitt who frequently used bright colors in his geometric work. We also chose to cut the pieces out of the center piece to have it work more fluidly with the two parts it lays over. This also makes the piece more interactive for the viewer as its flipped from top to bottom.
